Blackcurrant, black-cherry, dark-chocolate, clove and praline aromas. Oyster shell. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, chalky tannins and a creamy texture. Medium finish. Nice texture to this. Polished texture. Drink from 2023.

Very fresh. with a tightly focused beam of cassis and bitter plum fruit. Sweet tobacco notes and well-integrated toast emerge on the finish. Reveals a buried mineral edge. Solid.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 le Boscq reveals notes of warm cassis, ripe black plums and boysenberries with hints of charcoal, pencil lead, star anise and bouquet garni. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of crunchy black fruits, framed by ripe, grainy tannins and impressive freshness and finishes with great length and lovely purity.

90 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Le Boscq 2018Antonio Galloni bewertet den Chateau Le Boscq 2018 Saint Estephe wie folgt:

The 2018 Le Boscq is a powerful, dense wine. Black cherry, gravel, licorice, smoke, game and cloves flesh out as this succulent, potent Saint-Estèphe shows off its heady, flamboyant personality. The 2018 packs a serious punch. It is also a huge overachiever.

Purity and beauty on the nose with blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, crushed-stone and violet character. A full-bodied red with masses of polished tannins and intense flavors of currants and blackberries. Juicy finish. Super depth to this. Goes on for minutes. Try after 2027.

98+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für denLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den Chateau Montrose 2018 Saint Estephe wie folgt:

The 2018 Montrose is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Very deep garnet-purple in color, it needs a good amount of air to unlock the vibrant scents of crushed blackberries, preserved plums and cassis with suggestions of star anise, cedar chest, underbrush, Indian spices and iron ore, plus an emerging waft of violets. The full-bodied palate features the most exquisitely ripe tannins, offering a rock-solid backbone with tons of freshness lifting the taut, muscular fruit, finishing long and mineral laced. Going back to this wine over a period of hours and then days further reveals a Montrose of great opulence, richness and depth. Incidentally, the IPT level this year is 82, which indicates a very high level of tannins, and yet they are so, so ripe. The alcohol is around 14.5%. But sit back, close your eyes and forget the numbers—this is pure hedonism in its youth with a fantastic 40+ years of cellaring ahead of it, during the course of which do not be at all surprised if you are blown away by a three-digit experience.

97 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denAntonio Galloni bewertet den Chateau Montrose 2018 Saint Estephe wie folgt:

The 2018 Montrose is dazzling. Whereas so many 2018s are opulent and broad, Montrose is a wine of vertical explosive power. Ripe Cabernet aromatics soar out of the glass, making a strong first impression. Black cherry, leather, licorice, graphite and menthol develop later as the 2018 starts to open in the glass. The energy, vibrancy and drive here are palpable right out of the gate. Montrose is one of real stars of 2018. Don't miss it!

100 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck Jeb Dunnuck im März 2021:

A full-bodied powerhouse as well as a perfect wine, the 2018 Château Montrose is a final blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc that was raised in 60% new French oak. Boasting a deep purple hue as well as awesome levels of crème de cassis and smoky blackberry fruits and notes of tobacco, lead pencil, scorched earth, and chocolate, it's deep, opulent, and incredibly concentrated on the palate, with no shortage of mid-palate depth, tannins, or length. It reminds me a little of a fresher version of the 2003, although there's more Cabernet Sauvignon in 2018 as well as less Merlot. It has that classic Montrose minerality and backward, mineral-laced style, yet I suspect this will be drinkable in just 5-6 years and should evolve into a modern-day legend from this terroir.

The 2018 Capbern is expressive. nuanced and inviting. with lovely upfront fruit. In 2018. Capbern is a bit compact and tightly wound. but it also has a good deal of persistence. The Cabernet is quite marked in the 2018. which is not a bad thing. it just means the wine is going to need time to be at its best. What really stands out. though. is the push and pull between the bright aromatics that this cool. clay-rich soil helped give in 2018. and the ripe. radiant fruit of the warm summer. That interplay makes for an absolutely compelling wine. Red cherry fruit. mint. dried flowers. cedar and tobacco add aromatic nuance to this highly expressive. vibrant Saint-Estèphe. The blend is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon. 37% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Tasted two times.

The second wine from Calon Ségur, the 2018 Le Marquis De Calon Segur shows the ripe, sexy side to the vintage and has terrific blackcurrant and red plum-like fruits as well as lots of tobacco and cedary spice aromas and flavors. Close to an even split of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, this full-bodied, gorgeously texture, balanced Saint-Estate should be snatched up by readers. The 2018 Le Marquis de Calon-Ségur is a blend of 53% Merlot and 47% Cabernet Sauvignon (14.9% alcohol). It is anticipated to age for 17 months in barriques. 30% new. Deep purple-black in color. it gives up opulent scents of Indian spices. menthol and plum preserves with a core of crème de cassis. baked cherries and raspberry pie plus a hint of sandalwood. Big. rich. full-bodied and voluptuously fruited in the mouth. it has bags of black fruit preserves and exotic spices with a firm. plush frame. finishing long with a minty lift. Definitely one for the hedonists! und vergibt ihm 92-94 Punkte.

“2018 was complicated to vinify because of the potentially high alcohols.” Laurent Dufau. Managing Director of Calon-Ségur and Capbern informed me. “Also. you had to be very gentle with extraction. You had to be soft. so as not to extract too much. The alcohol percentage of the Merlot was concerning—some came in at 16% potential alcohol! And the Cabernet Franc this year was amazing on this terroir.” Merlot was picked from September 19 to 25. The Cabernets came in September 26 to October 5. Petit Verdot came in on October 8th. Yields were pretty good here on average in 2018: 41 hectoliters per hectare. This year marks the final stages/completion of years of vineyard restructuring. new aging cellars and a gravity-fed vat room at Château Calon-Ségur. Most notably. they have been increasing vine density and slowly working on bringing more Cabernet Sauvignon rather than Merlot on line. as was the blend traditionally. No doubt about it. quality at Calon-Ségur has been on an upward trajectory in recent years!

19 Jul, 2021 – Fresh currants and raspberries pop out of the glass, together with oranges and cedar. Such purity of fruit in the nose. Full-bodied, yet so refined and vertical. The 2019 d'Issan is a beautifully complex wine. The aromatics alone are beguiling, but that is just the beginning. Readers will find a powerful, layered Issan that is going to need at least a few years to start shedding some of its formidable tannin. Hints of dried rose petal, mint, blood orange, spice and star anise give the 2019 its gorgeous, beautifully lifted personality. Give this a few years, and watch what happens.

Chateau La Fortune 2016 Margaux

The 2016 Malescot Saint Exupéry is fabulous. Powerful and explosive on the palate. the 2016 offers serious intensity. but it also appears to be holding back quite a bit of its potential. Moreover. what impresses me most is that in 2016. intensity is delivered more with finesse than with the brutish power that is such a signature of Malescot. Deep and resonant. but also remarkably polished. the 2016 Malescot is a winner. Hints of iron. smoke. cedar. tobacco and scorched earth add nuance. but it is the wine's sense of poise that is most remarkable. I loved it. Tasted three times.

The 2019 Malescot St. Exupéry is quite possibly the most elegant wine I have tasted here. Plush and radiant, the 2019 possesses notable depth with plenty of supporting structure beneath surprisingly tamed tannins. Gravel, dark red cherry/plum, spice, leather and dried flowers build over time. The 2019 is a magical wine endowed with tremendous character. Don't miss it.

The 2019 Malescot Saint Exupéry has a well-defined bouquet, although it does not quite possess the intensity that it showed from barrel. Touches of licorice and allspice gently unfold with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, and lightly spiced with white pepper and clove toward the detailed, persistent finish. This is a serious Margaux that deserves time in bottle.
