The 2018 Fonplégade is super-elegant and refined. Some of the youthful exuberance the 2018 showed from barrel has naturally subsided, revealing a Saint-Émilion of real finesse and nuance. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, spice, blood orange and cinnamon are all beautifully layered. Even so, the 2018 was a bit more impressive en primeur. Hopefully, it is just closed post-bottling. We will see.

Excellent, but give it 24 months in bottle, because the nose needs time to find its mojo.

The 2019 Puygueraud exhibits aromas of black cherries, violet and iris, thyme, menthol and touches of spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, juicy and vibrant, with delicate aromas of plum and cassis. This vintage can be approached with pleasure, even if it has three to five years of evolution ahead of it.

An array of fresh dark and blue-fruit aromas, together with hints of baking spices, chocolate and crushed rocks. Full-bodied and compact with firm, polished tannins and delicious, succulent fruit. Refined and firm on the finish. 86% merlot and 14% cabernet franc. Drinkable now, but better in 2025.

The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of ripe black fruit flavors with a velvety texture and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.

Black cherries, blueberries, dried leaves, praline and some tar on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, broad tannins. Structured and concentrated. 96% merlot and 4% cabernet franc. Better from 2023.

The 2018 Alcée, the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux from Nicolas Thienpont, has a rather thick, dense bouquet of opulent blackberry and cassis fruit. It is certainly the most sumptuous of Thienpont’s wines this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame layers of tar- and tobacco-infused black fruit. Dichotomous to the nose, the finish comes across as structured and a little more austere in style. I appreciate the focus and spiciness of this Alcée, which deserves 2–3 years in bottle. Very fine, if a bit like a jigsaw puzzle: you have to put it together in your mind!

Eine betörende Nase, am Gaumen elegant, mit einer feinen Säure. Auch der Begriff Mineralik kommt da in den Sinn. Und wieder diese Ausgewogenheit. So kann sich nur ein Sauvignon Blanc präsentieren, der konsequente Arbeit und absolute Aufmerksamkeit sowohl im Weinberg als auch im Keller erfährt.

Der Jahrgang 2023 wurde von den Kritiker noch nicht bewertet. Den 2022er Weedenborn Sauvignon Blanc kommentiert Stephan Reinhardt mit einem "Sehr gut", 92 Parker-Punkte, betont Klarheit und Intensität in der Nase, und spricht von einem schlanken, raffinierten und eleganten Sauvignon Blanc. Bei James Suckling heisst es zum Jahrgang 2021: "Bemerkenswert reif für einen Sauvignon blanc aus diesem kühlen Jahrgang. Viel rote Stachelbeere, rote Johannisbeere und rote Paprika. Am Gaumen gibt es viel mehr von einem hellen grünen Charakter als in der Nase. Sehr schlank und knackig mit viel Schwung." 91 Punkte.

The 2019 Gloria has turned out very well, delivering aromas of blackcurrants, plums, burning embers and a deft framing of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and nicely concentrated, with a vibrant core of ripe and fleshy fruit, lively acids and powdery structuring tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully firm finish, this shows considerable promise.

Fratelli Revello 2020 Barolo DOCG

Die Revello Baroli sind unserer Meinung nach einmalig in Sachen Preis Genuss. Das Weingut bewegt sich in der Stilistik zwischen Moderne und Klassik, diesen Spagat bekommt es jedoch perfekt hin. Die Weine werden über 4 Tage mit Schalenkontakt eingemaischt. Die alkoholische Gärung findet dann über 10 Tage im Edelstahltank statt, die anschliessenden malolaktische Veredelung dann in französischen Fässern. Der Ausbau während der 24 Monate erfolgt zu 20% in neuem Holz und 80% gebrauchte Fässer. Für den Barolo von Revello wird die Füllung im Juli vor dem Jahr der Freigabe auf die Flasche vorgenommen. In den Verkauf kommt der Revello Barolo dann im März des vierten Jahres auf die Lese folgend.

Famille Perrin Cotes du Rhone Reserve 2021

Ein Côtes du Rhône der alten Schule par excellence.

Denn der Jahrgang 2021 bringt viel Frische mit. Sicher, das Wetter stellte die Winzer vor viele Herausforderungen. Frost im April, Regenfälle während der Weinlese. Das erforderte viel Aufmerksamkeit und Engagement im Weinberg. Das Ergebnis aber verspricht ein herrlich ausgewogener Jahrgang zu werden. Ein Muss für Freund des klassischen Stils. Schöne, intensive, tiefrote Farbe mit violetten Reflexen. In der Nase zeigt sich der Wein besonders ausdrucksvoll mit Aromen von frischer Kirsche, Zimt und Pfeffer. Am Gaumen ist er wunderbar ausgewogen, von großer Geschmeidigkeit und mit sehr eleganten Tanninen.
