Beautifully ripe and sexy, with a massive bouquet of blackcurrants, macerated black cherries, and smoked earth, it's full-bodied, opulent, and layered on the palate, with serious fruit. This brilliant wine will be approachable in its youth yet also evolve gracefully for 15 years or more. It should also be an incredible value.

Crushed red berry fruit, mint, spice, blood orange and cinnamon are all beautifully layered. Even so, the 2018 was a bit more impressive en primeur. Hopefully, it is just closed post-bottling. We will see.

The greater presence of Cabernet Franc. along with a move towards earlier picking. no SO2 at crush and less oak influence are some of the factors that have completely transformed Clos de l Oratoire from the powerhouse it often was to a wine of total and exquisite finesse. Inky dark fruit. lavender. sage. and mint give the 2018 striking aromatic depth. but it is the wine total sense of harmony that impresses most. The 2018 is fabulous. That is all there is to it. Tasted two times.
