This is seriously built. with an admirable core of red and black currant paste and bitter plum fruit inlaid with notes of tobacco. bay and smoldering charcoal. The finish is ramrod straight thanks to an iron girder supporting everything with ease. A tremendous effort for the vintage. Best from 2020 through 2035. From France .—J.M.

Chateau Montrose 2014 mit 96 Punkten bei Parkerfür den Chateau Montrose 2014 | Neal Martin März 2017:

Tasted twice in Bordeaux in the early part of 2017. the 2014 Montrose replicated its showing at the property as part of the vertical in September 2016. It has that exquisite blackberry. cedar and blood orange scented nose that feels so effervescent even at this early stage. The palate is beautifully balanced with crisp. tensile black fruit. filigree tannin. perhaps in recent months developing a little more spiciness on the finish. It is just a beautiful. regal and complete Montrose that will give decades of drinking pleasure. Tasted February 2017.

Tasted at the château. the 2014 Montrose builds on the promise it showed in barrel with gorgeous blackberry. raspberry. cedar and orange sorbet scents that are extremely pure and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. very precise acidity and layers of crisp black fruit laced with vanilla from the new oak at the moment. That will be subsumed in time. What you have here is a very precise. multi-layered. almost sensual Montrose that is going to delight many for years to come. This is highly recommended—one of the finest Left Bank wines this vintage. Tasted September 2016.

100 Punkte von Jeb DunnuckUnquestionably one of the top 2-3 wines of the vintage, the 2016 Château Montrose is a monument in the making. Checking in as a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc raised in 60% new French oak (the balance was in once-used barrels) and representing a tiny 36% of the production, this deep purple-colored 2016 possesses powerful, incredibly classic Saint-Estephe notes of creme de cassis, graphite, damp earth, lead pencil shavings, and burning embers. With a powerful, full-bodied style on the palate, a huge mid-palate, lots of underlying structure and tannic grip, and perfect balance, this magical wine will need upwards of a decade or cellaring and keep for 40-50 years.

Deep garnet-purple in color. the 2016 Montrose is a little youthfully shy to begin. but with coaxing. it unfurls to reveal the most beguiling scents of wilted roses. oolong tea. crushed rocks. wild sage. star anise and candied violets over a wonderfully pristine. well-defined core of crushed blackcurrants. black raspberries and kirsch plus wafts of pencil lead and wood smoke. The taut. muscular. medium to full-bodied palate straddles jaw-dropping intensity and finesse superbly. featuring a solid backbone of ripe tannins and giving a firm frame right through the incredibly long. exquisitely nuanced finish.

The 2016 Montrose has a tightly wound bouquet that is extremely well focused. This is one of the most pixelated aromatics I can remember on a Montrose at this stage. featuring blackberry. boysenberry and cedar and real mineralité underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with fine density and wonderful salinity. There is tremendous precision with razor-sharp tannin. and a brightness on the finish that is exceptional. This is a Montrose that will comfortably sit alongside the canon of great vintages from this Saint-Estèphe estate. As my score implies. it’s up there with the first growths. Stunning.

98 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Montrose 2016 Saint EstepheJames Suckling im Februar 2019:

The floral and fresh aromas to this are mesmerizing. Roses and lilacs galore. The pure cab aromas coming from the glass – blackcurrants and blackberries – are so memorable. Full-bodied. deep and profound. The ultra-fine tannins on the palate are so polished and fine-grained. The finish goes on for minutes with subtle yet superb fruit. It’s all about precision and form here. A modern classic for Montrose. Better after 2026.

The 2016 Montrose is every bit as impressive as it was from barrel. maybe more. Tightly wound and vertical. with remarkable intensity. the 2016 is simply magnificent. The tannins are there. but they are nearly buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit. All the elements are impeccably balanced in a wine of pedigree. depth and character. The 2016 is going to need a number of years to be at its best. but it is clearly a very special wine in the making. In a word: dazzling.

A gorgeous second wine. the 2016 La Dame de Montrose is incredibly expressive today. Supple. radiant and inviting. La Dame has all the potential to be an overachiever in this vintage. Today. it is quite open. and. even more importantly. flat-out delicious. In some moments. La Dame is rather nuanced. while at other times it is a bit more potent. It will be interesting to see what aging in bottle brings. but one thing is certain; the 2016 La Dame is a stellar wine. Don't miss it.

In several tastings. the 2016 has come across as a bit over the top. at least for my personal taste. Technical Director Jose Sanfins gave the 2016 16 months in oak. 60% new.

Not bad. but I think the 2015 is better. It feels as if it doesn’t want to go the extra mile like others in Saint-Estèphe.

The 2016 Cos d'Estournel is blended of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon. 23% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc aged in 65% new and 35% two-year-old French oak for 15 months. Bottled in July 2018. it is deep garnet-purple colored and starts off a little closed and reticent. opening out slowly and seductively to reveal beautiful lilacs. rose hip tea. crushed stones and camphor nuances over a core of crème de cassis. kirsch. wild blueberries and mocha plus wafts of incense and wood smoke. The palate is simply electric. charged with an energy and depth of flavors that seem to defy the elegance and ethereal nature of its medium-bodied weight. featuring super ripe. densely pixelated tannins that firmly frame the myriad of fruit and floral sparks. finishing with epic length. Just. Magic.

“Rains on 13th September helped finish the ripening in 2016." winemaker Dominique Arangoits informed me. “There was a little water stress here on the young vines.” he confessed. “It was very important not to overreact to the wet conditions in June. not to de-leaf too much. We have to be more careful than in the past. It was not a very early vintage. but we had to be careful with the Merlot and not to harvest too late. It was very important to keep the fruit and the energy in the wines. In the end. we didn’t even need to fine the wines—this was only the second vintage for this. We started in 2015. In 2017 we will probably not need to fine either. We have our own bottling line. so we have control.”

Arangoits and his team nailed it in 2016. It is also important to highlight that the transformation at Cos d’Estournel since Michel Reybier purchased the château in 2000 is simply incredible. Reybier’s considerable efforts since then in the vineyards and the winery are remarkable. What he has achieved has not only helped to bring the estate up to its true potential but also instilled a pretty impressive batting record when it comes to consistency of quality. Readers may want to check out my dedicated article on this estate. also published this issue. with a look at vintages 2000-2015.

100 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Cos d´Estournel 2016 Saint EstepheVerkostungsbericht aus Januar 2019:

The 2016 Cos d’Estournel was a bona fide showstopper out of barrel. the best that I had encountered in over 20 years of visiting the estate during en primeur. so my expectations were piled high when I returned to find out how it performs in bottle. Deep. almost opaque in color. it sports a very intense but broody bouquet with fathomless deep black fruit tinged with blueberry and violet. The aromas almost seem to envelop the senses. The palate is medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannin that I have never witnessed in any other vintage of Cos d’Estournel. There is a beguiling symmetry to this Saint-Estèphe. as well as unerring mineralité. The persistent. tobacco-tinged finish can be felt 60 second after the wine has departed. This is a monumental. benchmark Cos d’Estournel that will give not years but decades of pleasure. though I suspect it will close down for a period in its youth. hence my drinking window. 13.07% alcohol.

100 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Cos d´Estournel 2016 Saint EstepheJames Suckling im Februar 2019:

This is muscular yet so well defined and toned. Full-bodied with deep and dense fruit on the palate. yet powerful and rich at the same time. So much sandalwood and blackberry character. Chewy and rich at the finish. This is a warm and generous wine. but the alcohol is just over 13 degrees. Not that high. Love the finish. Extravagant. Magical. Try from 2025.

Mainly Grenache, with smaller portions of Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone Les Deux Albions matured in wooden and concrete vats. Black cherries and blueberries mark the nose, picking up hints of garrigue and black olives along the way. Medium to full-bodied, plush and expansive, it turns almost velvety on the finish. It's another terrific bargain from Barruol.

Stephan Reinhardt vom Wineadvocate:

"After 2018, 2019 is another qualitatively great vintage for Huet, even though the series includes only four wines. If you are a collector, you shouldn't miss the 2019s, but hurry up, quantities are much less generous than in 2018."

Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Sec 2019 - 95 Puntke vom Wine AdvocateVerkostungsnotiz von Stephan Reinhardt für den Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Sec 2019 vom 23.07.2020

The deep brown clay soils of the Haut-Lieu plateau provide the typical fruitiness and freshness wonderfully in Huet's 2019 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Sec. Ripe pear, tangerine and orange fruits with notes of lemon grass and green pimientos intertwined with very fine chalky and later tobacco notes give a remarkably fine, elegant and harmonious, subtly complex and simply gorgeous bouquet with floral (lime blossom!) and yeasty aromas that are immediately attractive. Delicate and linear on the palate, this is a pure, fresh, bone-dry, lean and textured, highly refined and perfectly interwoven Chenin with persistent purity, finesse, salty-mineral tension and very fine tannins. Highly finessed and so pure and vivacious! This is a chalky picture-book Haut-Lieu that can age for many years, even though it is already dangerously seductive! There was no dry Le Haut-Lieu produced in 2018, but the 2019 is possibly the finest, most delicate and elegant I've had in recent years, at least at this early stage. A terrific and buoyant Vouvray that any Chenin lover should try—or, better yet, cellar! 13% alcohol. 80.000 bottles made. Tasted in July 2020.

Chateau de Mercues 2017 Malbec de Cahors Georges Vigouroux

An extremely well made wine: rich, intense and subtle, with a great combination of fruit and spice. Very dark red with purplish red nuances and a nose of red fruit, spice, and vanilla. Very rich on the palate with hints of candied morello cherry and sweet spice underpinned by powerful tannin and elegant, understated oak.

Attractive perfumes of currants, berries, incense and flowers follow through to a medium body with firm, silky tannins and a bright finish. Some smoke and dark-earth undertones. A little tight at the end, but delicious already. Drink or hold.

93 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Le Macchiole Bolgheri Rosso 2019 DOCMonica Larner beschreibt den Le Macchiole Bolgheri Rosso 2019 am 07. Oktober 2021 wie folgt:
Released to much fanfare amidst growing popularity for this entry-level appellation on the Tuscan coast, the Le Macchiole 2019 Bolgheri Rosso is a beautiful specimen, thanks to its honest simplicity and its charming approach. The wine reveals good fruit complexity with blue and purple berries contrasted against toasted spice and baked earth. But if anything truly stands out here, it is the expert integration and generally seamlessness of the wine's various moving parts. This is a terrific wine to uncork for a fun family meal with pasta and grilled meats around the kitchen table.

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Le Macchiole Bolgheri Rosso 2019 DOCAntonio Galloni beschreibt den Le Macchiole Bolgheri Rosso 2019 im April 2021:

Le Macchiole's 2019 Bolgheri Rosso is bright, effusive and so alluring. Sweet floral and spice notes meld into a core of red/purplish berry fruit as this silky, mid-weight red shows off its undeniable charm. The interplay of Bolgheri radiance with the approach at Le Macchiole today, that seeks greater energy in the wines than in the past, is so incredibly appealing.

93 Suckling Punkte für den Chateau Pindefleurs 2019 Saint EmilionJames Suckling über den Chateau Pindefleurs 2019 Saint Emilion:

13 Jan, 2022 – This shows beautiful density and focus. Medium-to full-bodied palate with a solid core of fruit and a walnut, spice and sweet-tobacco aftertaste to the plums and cherries. Subtle and nicely structured. Drink after 2025.

90 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Pindefleurs 2019 Saint EmilionAntonio Galloni (Vinous) bewertet den Chateau Pindefleurs 2019 Saint Emilion:

The 2019 Pindefleurs is plump, juicy and easygoing, all of which make it a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Succulent dark cherry, plum, spice, tobacco and leather are nicely pushed forward. Soft, polished tannins and bright acids on the finish round things out nicely.

91 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denUnd Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Pindefleurs 2019 Saint Emilion:

The 2019 Pindefleurs is what you might call a "useful" Saint-Émilion. It has a well-defined, expressive nose of vivacious red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, full of joie-de-vivre. The palate is medium-bodied and quite sweet, with fleshy ripe tannins and flavors of raspberry, black currant and white pepper. The slightly spicy finish demonstrates admirable structure.
