The 2020 Lafon-Rochet was picked September 15–20 and marks the first collaboration between consultants Jean-Claude Berrouet and Eric Boissenot, who both worked on the blending. It has a really lovely bouquet of blackberry, briar and faint estuarine scents, hints of crushed iris flower emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and modest depth, and quite fleshy; lip-smacking salinity urges you to take another sip. Intriguingly, it comes across a tad Pomerol-like on the finish, completing a top-notch Lafon-Rochet that may well end up at the top of my banded score.

A serious wall of blueberry and blackberry compote, and a ton of savoury Cabernet sinew and freshness. This is a great Montrose, inky, broad-shouldered and structured. It needs time to aerate and open in the glass, then you see the precision, the heft, the chiselling of the fruits with a ton of graphite, cigar box and campfire smoke - huge persistency. This will need a long time and will reward patience. One of the few where a 1986, 2016 and 2010 comparison makes sense. A yield around 30hl/ha. 1% Petit Verdot, 3.86pH, IPT 80. 45% of the overall production.

My notes started and ended with "wow," and this riveting Saint-Estèphe offers a heavenly bouquet of red and black currants, truffly earth, iron, espresso, and tobacco leaf. With incredible purity of fruit, full-bodied richness, and ultra-fine tannins, it's a deep, pure, layered 2020 that deserves at least 7-8 years of bottle age and will cruise for 40-50 years in cold cellars. Based on 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot, the deep purple-hued 2020 Château Cos D'Estournel has, dare I say, an almost Lafite-like sense of elegance and class, offering gorgeous cassis and darker currants fruits as well as tobacco, lead pencil, acacia flowers, and graphite. Hitting 13.46 alcohol, with a pH of 3.9 and an IPT of 80, this flawless, full-bodied, incredibly elegant Saint-Estèphe has silky tannins, perfect balance, and a great, great finish. It will need a decade of cellaring to hit its prime drink window. Of the trilogy of 2018, 2019, and 2020, it's clearly my favorite (that’s splitting hairs), with a similarity to the 2016, and will most likely merit another point at maturity.

The 2020 Cos d'Estournel is a bold, demonstrative wine, bursting with aromas of cassis, dark berries and plum liqueur mingled with exotic spices, burning embers and petals, framed by a generous application of creamy new oak. Full-bodied, broad and low acid/high pH in style, it's rich and extracted, with a layered, mid-palate and a long, clove-inflected finish. While it isn't anywhere near as extreme as the 2009, the 2020 does appear to mark a move back toward a more turbo-charged style after Cos d'Estournel's shift toward elegance, exemplified by the brilliant 2016—but perhaps that's merely an illusion created by the vintage?

This is a very different style from the grand vin (Calon-Ségur), but also very delicious.

Another terrific Saint- Estèphe is the 2020 Château Capbern, which comes from the same team as Calon Ségur. (Current director Vincent Millet was brought on board in 2021.) Coming from 33 hectares of vines on sandy, gravelly, clay soils, the final blend is 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The élevage spanned 18 months in 60% new French oak, and this beauty hit just 12.8% natural alcohol. Gorgeous cassis, violets, damp earth, iron, and classy oak all emerge on the nose, and it's full-bodied on the palate, with beautiful tannins, a layered, seamless mouthfeel, and the vintage's pure, focused, age-worthy style front and center. Give bottles just 4-6 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

Wow, was für eine tolle Nase. Das ist komplex und tief. Da reiht sich eine dunkle Beere neben der anderen ganz klar auf, dann kommt etwas Mokka, auch hier dünn aufgeschnittenes rohes Fleisch, dann kommt wieder eine Ladung Cassis, gepaart mit Edelbitterschoki und das war nur die Nase! Im Mund setzt sich das Spektakel fort, das ist genau so komplex im Mund wie es die Nase versprochen hat. Das schmeckt und riecht schon so erwachsen. Balance und Frische werden hier nur der Vollständigkeit halber genannt. Das könnte der beste Phelan Segur ever werden.

This can't quite match the tension or plenitude of fruit of the last few releases, but it is a lovely Champagne. It's a blend of Pinot Noir from Verzy and Chardonnay from Chouilly.

Pol Roger's 2015 Brut Vintage is generous and demonstrative, bursting with aromas of golden orchard fruit, nectarine, warm bread, buttered popcorn and orange oil. Full-bodied, broad and vinous, it's rich and fleshy, with a sweet, layered core of fruit, racy acids and a pretty pinpoint mousse. Stylistically, the 2015 has more in common with the richness and concentration of 2012 than the chiseled raciness of 2013. It's a beautiful bottle in the making.

Die Cuvée: Die Cuvée Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2015 ist ein Champagner aus der traditionellen Assemblage des Hauses Pol Roger: 60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay aus 20 Grands und Premiers Crus der Montagne de Reims und der Côte des Blancs. Die in begrenzter Menge hergestellte Cuvée Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2015 reifte in den hauseigenen Kellern.

Vinifizierung & Reifung: Nach der Ernte werden die Trauben schnell und schonend gepresst. Eine erste Vorklärung erfolgt im Kelterzentrum, eine zweite im Gärkellerei bei kühlen Temperaturen (6°C) für 24 Stunden. Die alkoholische Gärung findet bei niedrigen Temperaturen (18°C) in temperaturgesteuerten Edelstahltanks statt, in denen die Rebsorten und Lagen vor der endgültigen Assemblage getrennt vinifiziert werden. Die malolaktische Gärung wird bei allen Weinen des Hauses durchgeführt. Nach der Verkostung, der Assemblage und der Flaschenabfüllung erfolgen die die Reifung in der Kühle der Keller in 33 Metern Tiefe. Jede Flasche wird vor dem Degorgieren und der Dosage auf traditionelle Weise von Hand gerüttelt. Danach ruhen die Weine mindestens drei Monate, bevor sie in den Handel kommen.

Verkostungsnotiz des Hauses Pol Roger: Der Brut Vintage 2015 hat eine schöne goldene Farbe mit silbernen Reflexen. Die erste Nase ist subtil und öffnet sich mit Noten von fleischigen Früchten (Pfirsich, Mirabelle), die sich mit luftigen Anklängen von Rosenblättern vermischen. Sie ist ausdrucksstark und frisch und erinnert an Backwaren, Gebäck und Trockenfrüchte. Dann entwickelt er sich weiter und enthüllt Aromen von Honig und Apfelgelee. Am Gaumen ist er rund und elegant. Ein Hauch von Zesten veredelt die Noten von Brioche, Gebäck und Röstaromen in Verbindung mit Süßholz und Trockenfrüchten. Die seidige Textur wird von einer anhaltenden Lebendigkeit bis zum Abgang begleitet. Der Jahrgang 2015 zeichnet einen warmen Champagner mit großer Finesse aus.

Immer ein guter Kauf, meinte Monica Larner noch im Dezember 2022 über den Terlan Winkl Sauvignon Blanc. Dem Jahrgang 2021 gab sie 93 Punkte: "Er ist duftend und blumig mit kräftigen Aromen, die aus dem Glas hervorstechen. Sie wissen definitiv, dass Sie einen Sauvignon Blanc vor sich haben, aber im Gegensatz zu einigen Exemplaren aus der Neuen Welt, die sich auf grüne Noten von Kiwi und Tomatenblättern konzentrieren, hat dieser Wein eine sehr kristalline oder weiße Persönlichkeit mit Kalkstein, Litschi und knackiger Birne. Wenn Sie diese Rebsorte lieben, kommen Sie hier voll auf Ihre Kosten." Von einem "sehr klassischen Südtiroler Sauvignon Blanc mit viel gelbem Grapefruitaroma, aber auch vielen kräuterigen und süßen pflanzlichen Noten (z.B. grüne Bohnen, Spargel, etc.)" spricht James Suckling, der den Jahrgang 2021 92 Punkte gab. "Saftig und lebendig, aber auch gut strukturiert, hat dieser Wein eine beeindruckende Tiefe im hellen Abgang."

Girlan Indra Sauvignon Blanc 2023 DOC Südtirol

Das nächste Kapitel dieses ungemein delikaten Sauvignon Blancs

Im Bouquet noch etwas wild, aber schon typisch Sauvignon Blanc. Stachelbeere, etwas Aprikose, Holunderblüte und zarte grasige Töne springen einem aus dem Glas entgegen. Am Gaumen dann sehr lebendig, knackig-frisch und die Frucht wieder unheimlich direkt. Richtig saftig. Jetzt noch etwas ungestüm wird er in den nächsten Monaten sanfter und geschmeidiger werden. Der Indra ist ein mustergültiger Sauvignon Blanc, toll als Aperitif, aber auch zu gegrillter Dorade, Spargelgerichten oder Pulpo-Salat.

Der aktuelle Jahrgang wurde bisher noch nicht von den Kritikern bewertet. Zum 2022er Jahrgang notierte James Suckling: "Eine duftende Nase mit Noten von Zitrusblüten, Minze, Stachelbeeren und Limetten. Mittlerer Körper, frisch und zitrusartig, aber gleichzeitig recht großzügig und ein wenig zähflüssig mit salzigen Untertönen. Vielschichtig und cremig im Abgang." 92 Punkte!

Ziereisen MUS 21 Grauer Burgunder 2021 bisher Musbrugger

Mineralisch, geradlinig, präzise

Wie bei Ziereisen üblich genossen auch die Trauben für den MUS 21 aus der Rebsorte Grauer Burgunder eine sehr feinfühlige Behandlung. Neben der Handlese von über 40 Jahre alten Rebstöcken finden sich die Trauben im Anschluss in einer traditionellen Korbpresse wieder. Diese ermöglicht ein betont schonendes Abpressen. Dem folgt eine langsame Spontanvergärung mit eigenen Weinbergshefen in einem großen Holzbehälter. Im Anschl uss erhält der Weißwein einen biologischen Säureabbau und ganze 20 Monate Reifezeit in Holzfässern aus heimischer Eiche. Dabei handelt es sich um bereits gebrauchte Fässer, wodurch der Holzton sehr angenehm mit den anderen Noten verwoben wird.

All das dankt der Wein dem Weingenießer mit einem ebenso komplexen wie terroirgeprägten Weinerlebnis. Man erkennt feine Eindrücke von Boskop-Apfel, Birnen und Aprikosen. Dank der oxidativen Reife werden diese fruchtigen Eindrücke aber sehr gekonnt begrenzt und schaffen Raum für interessante Reifetöne. Diese erinnern an Gebäck, einen feinen Holzton und als Konterpart auch an helle Blüten. Am Gaumen ist er angenehm mineralisch und schmelzig. Dank der präsenten Säurestruktur besitzt er trotz aller Kraft auch eine gute Frische. Um dieses unglaubliche Niveau des Musbrugger Grauer Burgunder nicht zu belasten, verzichten die Virtuosen von Ziereisen konsequent auf jegliche Schönung sowie Filtration vor der Abfüllung.

Natürlich eignet er sich auch ideal als Speisenbegleiter - z.B. zu sommerlichen Salaten mit nussig-cremigem Einschlag und gehaltvollen Gerichten vom Kalb. Wir sagen: Ein Grauer Burgunder wie man ihn sich schöner nicht wünschen kann!

Vom Jahrgang 2020, damals noch unter der Bezeichnung Musbrugger, war Stephan Reinhardt vom RPWA voll des Lobes: "Der Grauer Burgunder Musbrugger 2020 von fast 50 Jahre alten Grauburgunder-Rebstöcken, der etwa 20 Monate auf der Hefe lag, bietet ein reines, tiefes und gehaltvolles Bouquet mit Aromen von reifen Früchten, die sich mit Noten von zerstoßenen Steinen, Kräutern, Haferflocken, feinen Tanninen und einem Hauch von neuem Eichenholz vermischen. Am Gaumen ist dieser Grauburgunder vollmundig, dicht und konzentriert, intensiv und kraftvoll, mit feinen Tanninen und einer eleganten, mineralischen Säure. Er ist sehr, sehr lang und salzig, mit trocknenden Tanninen, aber einem reichen Extrakt und einem komplexen Nachgeschmack." 95 Punkte gab es im November 2022.

Chateau Haut Tropchaud - Der absolute Geheimtipp aus Pomerol, auf dem Plateau gelegen und damit Nachbar von Le Pin. L’Evangile. Vieux Chateau Certan und Petrus.

Auch im jüngsten verfügbaren Jahrgang 2020 ist der Haut Tropchaud eine wirkliche Perle des Pomerol Plateau. Für mich unterscheidet sich der JG 2020 beim Haut Tropchaud vom 2019er Haut Tropchaud in seiner Intensität. Seine Frucht ist noch eine Nuance tiefer und schwarzbeeriger als beim verführerischen Vorgänger. Auch seine Tanninstruktur weisst eine kompaktere Struktur auf, alles in allem würde ich sagen, dass der JG 2020 bei Haut Tropchaud die bisherige Spitze des Schaffens ist. Den Wein verfolge ich nun schon über ein halbes Jahr, in gewissen Abständen nach seiner Ankunft im September 2022. Zunächst brauchte er mindestens 2 Tage um zu seiner gewohnten Tiefe und Leichtigkeit zu gelangen. Doch jetzt rückt alles immer mehr an den Rechten Platz, man hat fast das Gefühl der Haut Tropchaud 2020 hat Platz genommen um Sie auf eine Genussreise mitzunehmen die Sie für diesen unverschämt charmanten Preis in Pomerol kein zweites Mal erfahren werden.

Im Prinzip gilt die Verkostungsnotiz und Beschreibung des 2019er Haut Tropchaud auch für den 2020iger nur im direkten Vergleich mit einer Spur mehr halt....
Dunkles dichtes Rot mit violetten Reflexen, in der Nase Holunder, Johannisbeere, Kirschen in allen Schattierungen, aber auch Himbeere. Im Antrunk unglaublich präsent, hohe Dichte, die Säure ist perfekt eingebunden, alles wirkt sofort perfekt proportioniert. Aromatisch unglaublich präsent. Schwarzkirche, Johannisbeere und Brombeere, der Haut Tropchaud ist aber nicht überladen oder sperrig, man kann ihn kaum ausspucken. Die Umamiwürze zwingt einen förmlich zum trinken und das selbst in diesem Stadium der Fassprobe! Sofort geht einem ein Lächeln durchs Gesicht, der pure Hedonismus, dabei lang und mit der richtigen Portion Würze und Mineralik. Wieder wird diese extrem hohe Balance deutlich. Das Kaufmuss aus diesem Jahrgang, der archetypische Pomerol überhaupt. Unglaublich schön, balanciert und lecker und wieder lecker, so muss ein Pomerol sein! Pomerol ist Genuss ohne jegliche Reue, viel mehr als man das in den anderen Appellationen Bordeauxs finden kann. Wer großen Bordeaux trinken will und Spaß haben will ist beim Chateau Haut Tropchaud Pomerol genau richtig!

Bereits En Primeur wurde der Lassegue 2021 genossen und zeigt sich nun gut in der Flasche. Mittlere Intensität in Pflaumenfarbe, ein Hauch von Nelken und Jod, mit ansprechend geschmeidigen Himbeer- und Kirschfrüchten, abschließend mit Safran und weißem Pfeffer. Der 54. Jahrgang in der Karriere des Winzers Pierre Seillan (der gerade an seinen Sohn übergeben hat, aber immer noch sehr präsent ist) und sein 19. hier bei Lassegue. Ernte vom 29. September bis 14. Oktober, 3,64 pH. 70 % neues Eichenholz, keine Chaptalisation.

Erstaunliche Aromatik - sehr fruchtbetont in der Nase voll von schwarzen Johannisbeeren, schwarzen Kirschen und schwarzem Pfeffer. Die Erdbeer-, Himbeer- und Cranberryfrucht singt regelrecht im Glas, kräftig mit ausgezeichneter Klarheit und weicher Geschmeidigkeit. Seidige Tannine, kaum vorhanden, außer um eine mineralische, nasse Steinstruktur zu verleihen, die im Vordergrund steht. Es ist tiefgründig in Bezug auf den Geschmack - vertikal und strukturiert, aber nicht schwer oder überschwänglich, mit Frische und Fokus, die es gehoben und anmutig halten. Gut ausbalanciert, harmonisch und voller Klassizismus im besten Sinne. Dies ist der 19. Jahrgang für Winzer Pierre Seillan, dessen Sohn jetzt das Ruder übernimmt.
