Wonderfully perfumed with violets and essence of raspberries that follow through to a medium to full body with totally integrated tannins that are tight and poised. You almost can’t “see” the tannins, but you feel them. Best after 2025, but already so pretty.

The 2019 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is absolutely gorgeous. Rich and pliant in the glass, with striking depth and fine balance, La Chapelle is everything a second wine should be. Succulent red berry fruit, iron, white pepper, smoke and tobacco lend nuance. There's real intensity and resonance here. I would give the 2019 a few years in bottle to come around fully.

The 2019 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion has a fragrant, well-defined nose of wild strawberry and black currant mixed with singed leather and light incense aromas, pretty and quite focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly powdery texture, fine acidity, good weight and a lovely, saline finish that gets the saliva flowing. A thoroughly fine Deuxième Vin.

Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, dezente Randaufhellung. Feine tabakig unterlegte Kräuterwürze, schwarze Waldbeeren, ein Hauch von Kirschen und Lakritze, angenehmer Edelholztouch. Saftig, rund und elegant, frische Kirschenfrucht, süße Textur, eingebundene Tannine, kann man vom Fleck weg genießen, ein facettenreicher Speisenbegleiter mit salzigem Nachhall.

Wafting from the glass with aromas of blackberries and plums mingled with notions of pencil shavings, burning embers and creamy new oak, the 2019 Haut-Brion is full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a textural attack that segues into an ample and enveloping core of fruit, concluding with a long, expansive finish. Broad-shouldered and muscular, its rich, powdery tannins are already seamlessly integrated; and though it's labeled at 15% alcohol, far higher than the great vintages of yesteryear, it avoids any sense of over-ripeness.

The Grand Vin 2019 Château Haut-Brion checks in as a classic blend of 49% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc. Its deep purple hue is followed by a stunning bouquet of ripe black cherry and currant-like fruit as well as classic Graves cold fireplace, burning embers, tobacco, and cedar pencil. More regal, firm, and classically structured on the palate, this full-bodied beauty has a deep, concentrated mid-palate, building tannins, background oak, and a great, great finish. It's very much in the focused, elegant, yet still concentrated and powerful style of the vintage. It will need a solid decade of cellaring, but it’s a brilliant wine.

11 Feb, 2022 – The black cassis comes out of the glass, together with iodine, sandalwood and subtle moss and wet-bark undertones, then turning to violets. The palate is mind-blowing, with a cashmere texture that unravels on the palate and continues on for minutes. It’s full of superbly complex, ethereal character and mouth-feel, One of the wines of the vintage. As glorious as it may be to taste now, this is one for your deep cellar. Try in 2029.

The 2019 Haut-Brion is seriously impressive. A dark, virile wine, the 2019 impresses with its vertical energy and statuesque elegance. It's a Haut-Brion that will only reveal itself over many years. Today, the density and resonance are super-impressive and also hugely promising. Classic savory and mineral notes start to emerge over time. I can't wait to see how this ages.

The 2019 Haut-Brion has an intense bouquet of blackberry, raspberry coulis, cedar, mint and black olive aromas vying for attention. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins that belie the backbone, the arching structure of this Haut-Brion. Very persistent and very precise, showing a little more ambition and breeding than the La Mission this year, and a persistent, graphite-tinged, sapid finish. An opulent Haut-Brion and yet the pedigree is palpable. 14.6° alcohol.

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2024 through 2038.

Essence de Dourthe find its origins in the prestigious Dourthe estates: Château Belgrave. Château Le Boscq. Château La Garde. Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac. Only 14 hectares of the very best gravel and clay soils and the finest. most distinguished. Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot vines have been selected; 14 hectares of vines on which the Dourthe oenologists and their teams focus all their talent and give free reign to their passion. Essence is the result of their remarkable achievements in each vineyard. a sublime combination of great terroirs and talents. But Essence is rare: only 6.000 bottles of Essence de Dourthe are produced each year.

The deep garnet-purple colored 2015 La Mission Haut-Brion is a blend of 58% Merlot. 7% Cabernet Franc and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Youthfully mute with bright. youthful red currants. black raspberries. cassis and freshly crushed blackberries notions. it slowly unfurls to reveal an earthy/minerally undercurrent of damp soil. charcoal. iron ore and truffles plus a waft of violets. Medium to full-bodied. decadently fruited and yet wonderfully elegant with very ripe. very silky tannins. freshness that sits well in the background and an almost electric intensity of vibrant red and black fruit flavors. it finishes long and minerally. Just. Beautiful. Consider giving it 6-7 years in bottle before broaching and drink it over the next 30+.

One of the stars of the vintage. the 2015 Pape Clément is fabulous. Dark and beautifully resonant. it captures all the natural radiance of the year in the Pape Clément style. Super-ripe black cherry. plum. mocha. chocolate. new leather and spice effortlessly fill out the wine's ample frame. Soft contours and an open-knit. inviting personality are just two of the reasons the Pape Clément is going to be virtually impossible to resist. even in the early going. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Tasted two times.

The 2015 Pape Clement is blended of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. matured in 80% new and 20% one-year-old French oak barrels for 18 months. Medium to deep garnet-purple. it opens with profound notes of crushed red and black currants. black cherries and cassis with touches of mocha. baking spices. menthol and lavender plus a hint of new leather. Medium-bodied. firm and concentrated with tons of tightly wound black fruit and earth layers. it has a grainy frame and refreshing lift on the long finish.

50 % Cabernet Sauvignon. 47 % Merlot. 2 % Petit Verdot. 1 % Cabernet Franc. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Extrem dunkelbeerig mit vielen Rauchnuancen. Lakritze. dunklen Edelhölzer. Guinness-Biermalz und Black Currant im ersten Ansatz. Nach ein paar Minuten kommt eine feine Zimtnuance zum Tragen. Heidelbeerenmark und Tahiti-Vanilleschote. Das Aromenpaket ist in sich gekehrt und bleibt noch etwas im Innern obwohl der Wein gleichfalls auch verschwenderische Ansätze zeigt. Ausgeglichene. royale Adstringenz aufweisend. cremiges Extrakt mit massiver. aber nicht überladener Konzentration. bleibt blaubeerig und hat in sich eine nicht erklärbare Faszination. Trotz der absolut modernen Vinifikation bleibt er irgendwie klassisch. Nach dem Spucken blieb er minutenlang im Gaumen zurück. Und mir blieb dabei förmlich die Spucke weg. Das war mein grösster Pape-Clément als Jungweinprobe. Fünf Mal verkostet. Er ist momentan der beste Pessac-Léognan. Mit der Gefahr. dass ihn Haut-Brion oder Mission einmal ein- möglicherweise überholen werden. Aber vor 20 Jahren wird dies nicht der Fall sein!

The 2015 La Tour Martillac has a gorgeous. complex nose. subtle pear and green apple scents. a whiff of the old sea spray coming in from the Atlantic. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity. very complex in the mouth with lip-smacking salinity towards the finish. What a fabulous white Bordeaux from the estate. certainly one of the best that I have ever encountered.
