A cold winter delayed bud-break. Late spring rain disrupted bloom. reducing yields by a quarter. Summer was warm at times. but mostly foggy and cool.

A terrific, well-priced Napa Cabernet, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis has a great nose of pure cassis fruits as well as tobacco, spring flowers, and a touch wet stone and graphite. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a good sense of elegance and ripe tannins. Drink bottles over the coming 10-15 years.

Philip Togni 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa ValleyAntonio Galloni beschreibt den Philip Togni 2014 Cabernet Sauvvignon EstateDezember 2016 wie folgt:

Togni's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is quite dark and powerful. but also very much medium in body. Graphite. smoke, savory herbs, mint, leather and a core of inky dark red and purplish fruit infuse this deep, beautifully layered Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 is a wine built on energy and aromatics that won't hit its stride until at least age ten.

94+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Philip Togni 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley30th Dec 2016 Robert M. Parker Jr.:

The flagship wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate from his vineyard high on Spring Mountain is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. It seems slightly more approachable and civilized for a young Togni wine, with a dense ruby/purple color, loads of blackcurrant, licorice, and graphite, some earth and spice, but very subtle earth nuances. It is full-bodied and rich, but the tannins are well-integrated and don’t scream as loudly as some vintages of Togni can. For Togni, this is probably one of his more forward and precociously styled Cabernets. It will probably approach drinkability in several years, but don’t discount its aging potential, as this easily has 20-25 years of cellaring potential.

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Ridge Geyserville 2017 Zinfandel Sonoma CountyVerkostungsnotiz von Antonio Galloni von Juni 2019:

The 2017 Zinfandel Geyserville exudes energy. but it is also very tight and closed in on itself. Time in the glass helps the wine open up. but only to a limited extent. Pretty scents of leather. savory herbs. spice and earthiness hint at what is to come. Readers should plan on being patient. but Ridge lovers know that. In most years. Geyserville starts hitting its stride around age ten.

93-95 Parker Punkte für den Geyserville 2017 von RidgeWilliam Kelley am 31.Mai 2018

A first look at the 2017 Geyserville Proprietary Red Wine revealed immense promise. Despite having been in barrel for a mere six months. it's already offering up complex aromas of raspberries. blackberries and exotic spice. On the palate. it's medium to full-bodied. pure and succulent. with superb concentration. a lovely line of ripe acidity and a chalky. fine-grained finish. The wine attained 14.7% alcohol. and Baugher believes it will be one of the best renditions of Geyserville in a decade.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Ridge Lytton Estate Petite Syrah 2017 Sonoma CountyVerkostungsnotiz von Antonio Galloni von Juni 2019:

The 2017 Petite Syrah Lytton Estate is another superb wine from Ridge's Lytton ranch. Inky dark fruit and expressive savory notes infuse this bombastic. heady Petite with tremendous nuance and surprising freshness. The 2017 is very young at this stage. but it clearly has the structure to age. My impression is that it will be even better once some of the baby fat melts away. Even today. though. the 2017 is superb.

94 Punkte Vinous für den Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 Estate Santa Cruz MountainsVerkostungsnotiz von Antonio Galloni von September 2020:

Ridge’s 2017 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a fabulous choice for readers who want a Monte Bello fix now, without having to wait. Supple, radiant and silky, with tremendous balance, the 2017 is just flat-out delicious and utterly irresistible. Dark red cherry/plum fruit, mocha, licorice, sweet tobacco and a kick of American oak build as this sumptuous Cabernet Sauvignon shows its allure. The 2017 is an outrageously beautiful wine. Don’t miss it.

94 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2017Erin Brooks im Februar 2021:

“The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Monte Bello Vineyard is blended with 21% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The nose is still tightly wound, taking plenty of air to reveal deep aromas of cassis, tobacco, licorice and coffee with top notes of violet and graphite. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, with a firm grain and concentrated fruits, and it finishes very long, layered and uplifted. This will require more time in bottle than the Klein Cabernet.” -Erin Brooks (February 2021)

93 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate showed beautifully, with gorgeous notes of cassis, crushed violets, graphite, and lead pencil all emerging from the glass. Showing plenty of richness and depth, medium to full body, good acidity, and plenty of firm tannins, it’s not a blockbuster, but it has the balance and class to evolve for 15 years or more. The blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot.

The 2016 Lytton Springs is a powerful. dense wine. Black cherry. plum. lavender. new leather. cloves. licorice and menthol flesh out. Deep. plush and richly textured. the 2016 Lytton Springs packs a real punch. The 23% Petite Sirah is felt in the wine's darkness and overall gravitas. On the palate. it's medium to full-bodied. rich and youthfully chewy. with a crunchy core of fruit and fine-grained but firm structuring tannins. It's a bit more burly and rustic than the satiny. sumptuous Geyserville this year—no surprise. given that the blend contains fully 23% Petite Sirah (alongside 69% Zinfandel. 6% Carignane and 2% Mataro).
