Glorious aromas of blackcurrants. blackberries and flowers. from violets to roses. Iron and rust undertones. Full-bodied. dense and very layered with loads of richness. It goes on for minutes. Reminds me of the 1986. Best in decades? Take a first look at it in 2025.

The 2016 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has an enthralling bouquet of tobacco-infused black fruit. shaved truffle and pencil shavings; crushed stone emerges with continued aeration. The Cabernet Sauvignon is clearly in the driving seat here. just like the 1996. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin. more saline and marine-influenced than Pichon Baron. and a tad spicier toward the finish. which is one of the most impressively persistent I have ever encountered in a Pichon-Lalande. fanning out with gusto and leaving the mouth still tingling 60 seconds after it has departed. This is a benchmark for the estate. the best Nicolas Glumineau has overseen in his tenure... thus far.

The 2016 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is every bit as regal as it has always been. Towering and spectacularly rich in the glass. the 2016 captures every ounce of potential is showed from barrel. The 2016 is a vivid. dramatically sweeping wine that will leave readers week at the knees. Beams of tannin give the 2016 soaring intensity that is matched by a host of aromas and flavors that open up in the glass. Blackberry jam. graphite. spice. menthol. licorice. pencil shavings and spice are all finely sketched in a bold. savory Pauillac that hits all the right notes. The 2016 Pichon Comtesse has been riveting on each of the four occasions I have tasted it from barrel thus far. making it easily one of the wines of the vintage. Nicolas Glumineu and his team turned out an epic Pichon Comtesse in 2016. Don't miss it!

98+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für denLisa Perrotti Brown im November 2018:

The 2016 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is blended of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon. 21% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc aged for 18 months in 60% new oak. Deep purple-black in color. it is a little mute. slowly unfurling to reveal a core of crushed blackcurrants. blueberry compote and black raspberries with nuances of cinnamon stick. violets. star anise. menthol and pencil shavings plus a waft of fallen leaves. Medium-bodied and super intense in the mouth. the palate bursts with black fruits and savory layers. complemented by red fruit sparks and framed by fantastically ripe. fine-grained tannins. finishing very long with a lingering suggestion of minerality.

The best Réserve de la Comtesse for some time. Second wine of Château Pichon-Lalande. Try from 2023.

The 2018 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot with a pH of 3.85, an IPT (total polyphenol index) of 87 and 14% alcohol. The grand vin represents 50% of the crop this year. Deep garnet-purple colored, it charges out of the gate with bold scents of baked plums, ripe blackcurrants and wild blueberries, followed by hints of cedar chest, pencil lead, bouquet garni and charcuterie, plus a waft of lilacs. The medium-bodied palate is beautifully crafted with its seamless freshness and firm, grainy tannins supporting the compelling, finely knit black fruits and savory nuances, finishing on a lingering fragrant-earth note. This will need a good 5 years to come around and should easily cellar for another 30 years or more.

The 2018 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande dazzles from the very first taste. A heady concoction of inky dark fruit, graphite, new leather, licorice, lavender, spice and grilled herbs soars out of the glass. The 2018 is rich and expansive yet retains a super-classic vertical feel. Plush, silky tannins add to its immeasurable pedigree. I would cellar the 2018 for a decade or so, if patience permits. It's a stellar wine in the making.

98 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den Peter Michael 2018Jeb Dunnuck im November 2020:

The 2018 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse De Lalande is a monster of a wine with an almost Château Latour-like stature and structure, offering deep, backward, slightly reductive notes of blackcurrants, crushed stone, scorched earth, lead pencil shavings, and tobacco leaf. Based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon mixed with 23% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, it's full-bodied, concentrated, and powerful on the palate, with masses of tannins, beautiful mid-palate density, and a great finish. As I've commented previously, the up-front, sexy style of the past (due to the larger Merlot content, I believe) has been replaced by a more regal, at times austere profile. Nevertheless, it's still its own wine and very Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in style. This 2018 is going to need 5-7 years of bottle age and will evolve for 40+ years.

The palate is very well balanced with fresh acidity. fine grain tannins. a touch of salinity developing towards the finish that has more grip than previous vintages. Superb.

Réserve de la Comtesse is especially fine in 2019. Wonderfully dark. fleshy and inviting. the Réserve is just striking today. A rush of dark red/purplish fruit builds effortlessly in the glass. More than anything else. the Réserve impresses for its sensual. inviting personality. It is an ideal second wine that is approachable and avoids being excessively serious. as some recent editions have been.
General Manager and Winemaker Nicolas Glumineau describes 2019 as a year of drought. until rains arrived at the end of July and middle of August. which were very important for the maturation of the Cabernets in mid-October. Yields were 42 hectoliters per hectare. which is typical for the château. Glumineau added that the Merlots showed a wider range of quality. while the Cabernets were more homogeneous. In tasting. I found the two wines more differentiated stylistically. which has not often been the case.

Die Degustationsnotiz des Wine Advocate zum Reserve de la Comtesse 2020 Pauillac :

Composed of 47% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Reserve de la Comtesse is redolent of cassis, redcurrant jelly and raspberry coulis, plus suggestions of chocolate box, lilacs and stewed tea, with a waft of unsmoked cigars. The medium-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating, juicy black fruits with a soft texture and seamless freshness, finishing long with a spicy kick. This is a very different style from the grand vin, possessing a more playful, upfront and effortlessly delicious character that truly draws you in!

90-92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2020
Das meint die Vinous-Mannschaft um Antonio Galloni zum Chateau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande:

The 2020 Réserve de Pichon Comtesse is very harmonious on the nose, featuring plenty of blackberry, wild strawberry and light touches of salted licorice and estuarine scents; this is going to be very seductive. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and fine-grained tannins, not a powerful or deep Deuxième Vin, leading to a poised, quite spicy, peppery finish. This should give 12–15 years of drinking pleasure.

Vom Falstaff-Magazin mit 91-93 Punkten bewertet

Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung.

Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande begins on a single, well-defined, wonderfully pure note of ripe blackcurrants, opening out to a melody of redcurrant jelly, kirsch, ripe blackberries and tar, with emerging suggestions of dark chocolate, cardamom, ground cloves and violets, with a waft of black truffles. Medium-bodied, tightly wound and with loads of fantastically nuanced black fruit layers, it has a rock-solid frame of finely grained tannins and bags of freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. The blend this year is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc.

Das meint die Vinous-Mannschaft um Antonio Galloni zum Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande:

The 2020 Pichon-Lalande has a backward nose similar to that of its neighbor Pichon-Baron, and so I decanted the bottle for 45 minutes. It then revealed gorgeous scents of blackberry, wild hedgerow, seaweed (Japanese nori) and wild mint. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and gentle but insistent grip. Very intense but not ripe; there is a coolness about this Pauillac that I like, while the finish is very classically styled and leaves behind a persistent, slightly briny aftertaste. This is a magnificent, cerebral Pichon-Lalande that will deserve serious aging and the patience of anyone still waiting for The Cure's new album. Tasted three times, including directly from the château.
