Chateau Leoville Poyferre - Saint-Julien

Chateau Leoville Poyferre - Saint-Julien

Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2016 Saint Julien

The 2016 Léoville-Poyferré is fabulous. Rich. ample and dramatic in bearing. the 2016 possesses striking intensity and vertical lift. The tannins certainly need at least a few years in bottle to soften. but there is so much to look forward to. Graphite. menthol. lavender and licorice complement the inky blue/purplish fruit beautifully. The bottled wine has a bit more Cabernet Sauvignon and less Merlot than the en primeur sample. I tasted the 2016 three times. It's least favorable showing was at the château. For readers and proprietors who think wines always taste better on site...they don't.

Terrific intensity of dark berries. almost peppery blackcurrants and violets with attractive and integrated. spicy oak and an earthy edge. The palate has a super powerful and long. linear core with plenty of fruit flesh strapped in tight for a long and thrilling ride into the finish. A blend of 86 per cent cabernet and 14 per cent merlot. Try from 2024.

This liquid is simply alive in the mouth. culminating in an epically long finish that will leave your mouth practically tingling. WOW!

This is so powerful and dense with amazing tannin quality that reminds me of dense clouds. because they are agile and light. Multilayered. Extremely long. too. Punchy! One of the best wines I have ever had from here.

Deep garnet-purple colored. the 2018 Leoville Poyferre begins sporting a veil of cedar. opening out to reveal profound notions of crème de cassis. warm kirsch. Black Forest cake and Indian spices plus hints of chargrilled meats and Sichuan pepper. Full-bodied and built like a brick house. the taut. muscular black fruit has a solid frame of firm. ripe tannins and seamless freshness. finishing long with loads of savory nuances. Aging is anticipated to be for 18 months in barriques. 80% new. The current blend is 64% Cabernet Sauvignon. 30% Merlot. 3% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.

The 2018 Leoville-Poyferre is a stunning wine that shows a very distinct shift in style under the leadership of Sara Lecompte Cuvelier towards greater energy and vibrancy. The 2018 soars out of the glass with stunning aromatic presence. In its latest incarnation. Leoville-Poyferre is marked by a distinct emphasis on freshness and less extraction than in the past. with sweeter. riper tannins than is the norm. It will be interesting to see if that is an expression of the vintage. or a move toward a gentler approach to winemaking. but I suspect much of it is the latter. Dark red cherry. menthol. pine and wild flowers abound in a stunning. vibrant Saint-Julien that will leave readers weak at the knees. Tasted three times.

This is brimming with plum. blackberry and blueberry reduction flavors. backed by grippy. energetic bramble. licorice and apple wood notes. Chockablock with stuff but defined and balanced. A no-brainer for the cellar.verkostet 03-19 von James Mothels Winespectator

Deep purple-black colored, the 2020 Léoville Poyferré comes bounding out of the glass like an energetic young pup, delivering exuberant scents of crushed black cherries, juicy blackberries and warm cassis, with hints of ground cloves, dark chocolate, lilacs and tilled soil. 96-97 Suckling-Punkte für den Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2020
James Suckling schreibt zum Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2020 Saint Julien Folgendes:

Impressive purity of fruit on the nose with crushed raspberries, blackcurrants and blackberries. Some lead pencil, too. It’s full-bodied with very polished, intense tannins that go on for minutes. The quality and precision of the tannins are impressive, giving the wine form, energy and equilibrium.

95-97 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2020
Das meint die Vinous-Mannschaft um Antonio Galloni zum Chateau Leoville Poyferre:

The 2020 Léoville Poyferré builds on the success of recent vintages, offering intense yet exquisitely defined black cherries, wild strawberry, cassis and crushed stone aromas. It is high-toned as usual but not quite as hedonistic as the recently tasted 2018. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that belie the backbone of this Saint-Julien. Slightly lactic in texture toward the spicy finish; the oak will be assimilated by the time of bottling, leaving a very suave and sophisticated wine that will give 30–40 years of drinking pleasure. Easily one of the classiest offerings from this Saint-Julien in recent years.

Vom Falstaff-Magazin mit 95-97 Punkten bewertet

Tiefdunkles, opaker Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung.
