This has a perfumed nose of wild strawberries, currants, lavender, chocolate orange and praline. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Pretty and polished with a fresh finish. Drink or hold.

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Charmail 2019 Haut MedocUnd Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Charmail 2019 Haut Medoc:

The 2019 Charmail has an understated bouquet that unfolds with aeration, revealing pretty red berry fruit, rose petal and crushed stone. I admire the focus here. The palate is rounded, sweet and nicely poised, with nice grip. A little oak toward the finish suggests this will age with style. Very fine.

The 2019 Beaumont has turned out very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet berry fruit, pencil shavings and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and melting tannins, it's charming and nicely balanced. It's the finest wine from this large château that I can remember tasting.

The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, and not quite as supple as before, though I appreciate the tangy seaweed note toward the finish. Just what you want from a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur.

Situated on gravel banks to the south of Saint-Julien, this estate has produced some terrific wines over the years, and the 2019 Lanessan is a solid effort. Exhibiting aromas of cassis, loamy coil, cigar box and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and nicely balanced, with a fleshy core of fruit and ripe, youthfully chewy tannins.

Fruity nose of ripe blackberries, currants, chocolate orange and oyster shell. It’s medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Balanced and fresh with some spicy and salty notes to close. Drink from 2023.

89 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Lanessan 2019 Haut MedocUnd Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Lanessan 2019 Haut Medoc:

The 2019 Lanessan has a very perfumed bouquet, much more floral than I recollect from barrel, featuring vibrant black fruit and touches of licorice in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, those strong tobacco and bell pepper notes still coming through, and moderate weight. As I suggested before, I would have liked more personality on the finish, which feels a little abrupt.

Wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries and cassis mingled with hints of dark chocolate, pencil shavings and violets, the 2019 La Lagune is medium to full-bodied, broad and sensual, its ample core of fruit framed by polished tannins and succulent acids. In its elegant, generous style, it's reminiscent of a modern-day version of the brilliant 1990.

6 Dec, 2021 – Plenty of chocolate, tobacco and blackcurrant character on the nose. It’s full-bodied with chewy tannins that are polished and present. Long and intense. This is rather tight and mouth-puckering. Give it time to soften. Very structured. From organically grown grapes. Better after 2025.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau La Lagune Haut Medoc 2019Und Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau La Lagune Haut Medoc 2019:

The 2019 La Lagune is focused yet nuanced and complex on the nose of blackberry, raspberry, wet clay and light tobacco scents. The medium-bodied palate features fine-grained tannins, good structure and a noticeable marine influence that defines the impressively persistent finish. Everything is in place for one of the best La Lagune releases in recent years.

91 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Gloria 2019 Saint JulienAntonio Galloni (Vinous) bewertet den Chateau Gloria 2019 Saint Julien:

The 2019 Gloria is a powerful, brooding Saint-Julien. Sweet red cherry, iron, dried flowers, menthol, herbs and cedar lend quite a bit of character. In 2019, Gloria is defined by its intensely feral personality and tannins. Perhaps time will help. Today, Gloria does not appear to be quite the charmer that it can be.

93+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Gloria 2019 Saint JulienWilliam Kelley im April 2022:

The 2019 Gloria has turned out very well, delivering aromas of blackcurrants, plums, burning embers and a deft framing of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and nicely concentrated, with a vibrant core of ripe and fleshy fruit, lively acids and powdery structuring tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully firm finish, this shows considerable promise.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Gloria 2019 Saint JulienUnd Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Gloria 2019 Saint Julien :

The 2019 Gloria personifies classic Saint-Julien, offering blackberry, wild hedgerow, cedar and tobacco scents, maybe a little conservative in style, but unashamed about that. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite firm tannins. Fresh and saline, this gets the saliva going with a precise, persistent finish and leaves hints of graphite on the aftertaste. Excellent.

94 Punkte vom Wine Spectator für den Chateau Gloria 2019 Saint JulienFür den Wine Spectator verköstigte James Molesworth den Chateau Gloria 2019 Saint Julien:

Rock-solid, with a mouthwatering roasted apple wood and mesquite frame around a well-layered core of black currant, blackberry and plum fruit flavors. The finish features dots of tobacco and tar that add range, but the real driver is a long bolt of iron, which gives this a throwback feel. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2025 through 2038.

6 Dec, 2021 – Very clear fruit character of blackcurrants, orange peel and spices. Some walnut, too. It’s full-bodied with integrated, polished tannins and shows finesse and focus. Love the focused fruit at the end of this. Strength with finesse. Give it four to five years of bottle age. Try after 2024.

BEST EVER für den Wineadvocate

The 2019 Branaire-Ducru unwinds in the glass with aromas of raspberries, blackcurrants, sweet soil tones and hints of cigar wrapper, rose petals and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's youthfully tightly wound, with terrific concentration, tangy acids, powdery tannins and a long, saline finish. While this is a little reserved out of the gates, its energy and classical proportions will richly reward bottle age.

95 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Branaire Ducru 2019 Saint JulienAntonio Galloni (Vinous) bewertet den Chateau Branaire Ducru 2019 Saint Julien:

The 2019 Branaire-Ducru is rich, layered and sumptuous. Black cherry, licorice, spice, leather tobacco and tar build effortlessly in the glass. The 2019 impresses with its density and pure power, which makes it perhaps atypical for Branaire by its historic standards, but it may be the direction the château seems to be headed in. The aromatics are a bit closed right now, but time in bottle should help take care of that.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Branaire Ducru 2019 Saint JulienUnd Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Branaire Ducru 2019 Saint Julien:

The 2019 Branaire-Ducru is one that I was eager to re-taste in bottle. Deep in color, it has a very well-defined nose of tightly packed dark berries, the tobacco element less obvious than before, and slightly more floral, with light sous-bois notes developing with aeration. The 60% new oak is neatly integrated. The palate shows real vivacity and tension on the entry and delivers crunchy black fruit, touches of blue fruit and a little iodine. Sappy from start to finish, this has a real saline tang that urges you back for another sip. There is definitely is more substance compared to previous vintages, and I wager that this represents the best Branaire-Ducru in recent years. 13.7% alcohol

Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with an ample core of lively fruit, powdery tannins and succulent acids, it's suave and seamless, concluding with a long, expansive finish. The result of an extremely rigorous selection, and incorporating fully 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is the finest wine this château has produced in the modern era. A deep, fleshy Saint-Julien, the 2019 Lagrange builds beautifully with time in the glass. Sweet red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, sage, mint, lavender and cinnamon are finely delineated, and yet this mid-weight Saint-Julien impresses with its super finessed personality. The 2019 is so inviting. It is an especially fine Lagrange. Tasted two times.

While I don't think the 2019 Château Lagrange matches the 2018, it's not far off, with a more elegant yet still concentrated style. Beautiful crème de cassis, spicy oak, tobacco, chocolate, and new saddle leather notes all emerge on the nose, and it stays tight, compact, and focused on the palate, with plenty of firm tannins. It opens up beautifully with time in the glass but merits 4-6 years of bottle age, and it should evolve for 20-25 years or more.

95 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint JulienUnd Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint Julien:

The 2019 Lagrange, which was picked over the longest period ever, has a compelling bouquet of beautifully defined black fruit laced with cedar and light graphite notes. The palate is smooth, fresh and vibrant, with great depth, perfectly judged acidity and a brilliantly focused finish. Winemaker Mathieu Bordes has crafted the best Lagrange in recent years, a benchmark for the estate.

Juicy and flush, with steeped red and black currant and plum fruit flavors, this has a generous edge from start to finish. Features notes of tobacco, singed cedar, warm earth and iron throughout, with a seductive hint of incense curling around the tail end of the finish. This has a generosity that makes it approachable, but there's no rush at all to drink this one. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Now in bottle, it has retained those engaging aromas of blackberry, raspberry, cedar and a pinch of spice, well defined and quintessentially Margaux. The palate is understated on the entry, smooth and sensual in texture, with gorgeous, very pure red fruit. I adore the harmony of this wine, and the way it sashays toward the finish. Deceptively approachable, this will mature beautifully in bottle.

The palate is medium-bodied, taut and fresh, with sappy red fruit, fine acidity and a vibrant, harmonious finish. Chateau Petit Grave Aine 2018 Saint Emilion Grand Cru mit 95+ Punkten von Jeb Dunnuck bewertet Jeb Dunnuck im März 2021 über den Chateau Petit Grave Aine 2018 Saint Emilion Grand Cru:

The Cabernet Franc-dominated 2018 Château Petit Gravet Aîné (there's 20% Merlot) comes from the upper plateau in Saint-Emilion and was raised in new French oak. It's handled its élevage nicely and has just subtle vanilla and spicy oak notes as well as impressive red, black, and blue fruits intermixed with notes of acacia flowers, spice box, forest floor, and tobacco. Tighter and more backward from bottle than barrel, it's medium to full-bodied and has a balanced, elegant texture, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It needs 3-5 years of bottle age and should have two decades of overall longevity.

The 2018 Petit Gravet Aîné is a blend of 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot, weighing in with 14% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it bursts from the glass with vibrant notes of kirsch, black raspberries and stewed plum, plus hints of lavender, tobacco leaf and pencil shavings. The medium to full-bodied palate is juicy and plush, featuring loads of fragrant earth nuances to back up the ripe red and black berry layers and bags of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. This is an effortlessly beautiful Saint-Émilion! This is a tiny 2.5-hectare vineyard in the Saint-Émilion foothills, situated west of Château Canon-La-Gaffelière in deep, sandy-clay soils.

From a beautifully situated hillside vineyard, sandwiched between Larcis Ducasse and Tertre Roteboeuf on either side, with holdings belonging to Pavie and Troplong Mondot on the plateau above, the 2019 Bellefont Belcier has turned out very well indeed. Offering up aromas of smoky berry fruit, loamy soil, subtle spices, black truffle and violets, it's full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with a vibrant, enveloping profile and a long, penetrating finish. This is a terrific effort, though given the thoughtful farming and program of replanting that is underway at this long-neglected estate, I suspect it only hints at what is to come as Jean-Christophe Meyrou and his team get to work.

The 2019 Bellefont-Belcier is a wine of tremendous reserve. The 35% Cabernet Franc comes through in the wine's aromatic profile and overall feel. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2019 needs time to come together. It is a seriously impressive wine with tons of character. I have long admired Bellefont-Belcier for its potential.
