The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Castelgreve is broad, dramatic and sweeping in its intensity, but it needs quite a bit of air to show those qualities. Black cherry, plum, cedar, tobacco, spice and leather power through in this deep, super-expressive Riserva. Brooding and dense in the glass, with real substance, the Riserva is another winner from Grevepesa. It will benefit from a few hours of aeration, or even better, a bit of time in the cellar.

The 2019 Côtes du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is a blend of 70% Syrah (vinified as whole bunches and aged in 20% new demi-muids) and 30% Grenache (destemmed and aged in concrete). Hints of peppery spice, vanilla and woodsmoke accent the blueberry-scented nose, while the full-bodied palate is ripe, supple and concentrated, adding hints of black cherries, chocolate and licorice on the long finish. It's hard to top this sort of quality at the suggested retail of $19.

It offers loads of black fruits, roasted herbs, peppered meat, violets, and bacon fat as well as full-bodied richness, a round, opulent style, ripe tannins, and a blockbuster finish. It’s one of the finest values out there.

The 2016 Cotes du Rhone Villages Terre d'Argile is an equal-parts blend of Carignan. Grenache. Mourvèdre and Syrah. It's a full-bodied. silky-textured wine with bright acids that can rival many Châteauneuf-du-Papes. Dusty. earthy notes and dried spices accent cherry-berry fruit and then pick up classy hints of licorice on the lingering finish.
