Sattes Purpur-Granat. dicht in der Mitte. lila Schimmer aussen. Grosse Pomerolklasse bereits in der Nase zeigend. nicht nur einfach fruchtig. sondern auch mit floralen Würznoten (Cabernet Franc!) aufwartend. wirkt sehr homogen im Ansatz. Im Gaumen Charme und Finesse. aber auch Power. Gehört zu den besten auf dem Plateau. mit entsprechender Konkurrenz.

The 2016 Plince is a blend of 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc. It has a medium garnet-purple color and offers up scents of red and black currants, black cherries and mulberries with scorched earth, bay leaves and iron ore nuances plus a hint of violets. Medium-bodied, the palate is packed with energetic red and black fruits, textured with ripe, rounded tannins and loads of freshness, finishing on a compelling mineral note.

Super nose of dried blueberry, black plum, walnut, myrrh and sandalwood. Lavender, violet, and chocolate, too. Ripe with wood now, but fresh. It’s full-bodied with firm, ultra fine tannins. Lots of dark spice is interlaced with the ripe fruit, giving this complex, perfumed character. Muscular, long and seamless with incredible depth and concentration. Reminds me of the great 2009, but this is better with more structure. Amazing wine. This is 100% merlot. Try from 2027.

The 2018 Trotanoy is a bold, powerful wine. In this vintage, some of the imposing structure that is such a Trotanoy signature has been replaced by super-expressive aromatics and striking detail. Dried herbs, iron, gravel and crushed rose petals all lend gorgeous savory nuance to a core of potent red berry fruit. Trotanoy is a Pomerol for those who can be patient. The 2018, though, is extraordinarily beautiful right out of the gate.

Another heavenly Pomerol in the vintage, the 2018 Château Trotanoy checks in as 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc brought up in (I suspect) lots of new French oak (although it's certainly not apparent). Revealing a dense purple hue as well as a smorgasbord-like bouquet of blackcurrants, dried flowers, cured meats, violets, tobacco, and chocolate, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a sexy, seductive texture, building yet sweet tannins, and just a rich, concentrated, yet flawless profile on the palate that's already impossible to resist. Nevertheless, a good 7-8 years of bottle age are warranted, and this magical elixir is going to evolve for 40 years or more.

The 2018 Trotanoy is composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it slowly unfurls to reveal a jaw-dropping perfume of Black Forest cake, black raspberries, blackberry pie and kirsch, followed by hints of cast-iron pan, violets, woodsmoke, Chinese five spice and eucalyptus, with a waft of tree bark. The full-bodied palate explodes with exotic spice and mineral fireworks, grounded by a concentrated, black and red berry preserves core and framed by firm, grainy tannins, finishing with epic length and depth. It will need a good five years in bottle to tame some of the youthfully overt, showy fruit and allow the mineral and earth nuances to emerge, then it should easily cellar another 35 years or more

This has the wow factor; it's very impressive. The nose is saturated with dark. rich plums and wet-earth aromas. not to mention the roasted-coffee and crushed-violet undertones. The palate has polished. lustrous appeal. and dark plums and ripe blueberry flavors abound. Long. deep-set tannins with incredible depth. This has x-factor depth and elegance. Best from 2025.

The 2018 Vieux Château Certan is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Yields were 40 hectoliters per hectare. The wine has a pH of 3.78. 14.4% alcohol and an IPT (total polyphenol index) of 77. Medium to deep garnet-purple—it has a very vibrant color—it drifts effortlessly out of the glass with wonderfully intense. beautifully delineated scents of red roses. black raspberries. kirsch and Darjeeling tea before the powerful. profound black fruits kick in: baked plums. wild blueberries. molten licorice and mulberries with touches of cigar box. cinnamon stick. tapenade and truffles. Full-bodied. rich. densely packed and revealing layer upon layer of red and black fruits with an incredible array of floral and spicy sparks. it has a high level of super ripe. incredibly fine. velvety soft tannins and fantastic freshness (not just from acid but from bright. crunchy fruit). It finishes very long. marvelously layered and with such jaw-dropping brightness from the fruit. the end is almost electric. Incredible.

The 2018 Vieux Château Certan is a very pretty wine built more on elegance. finesse and aromatic nuance. Relative to the recent past. the 2018 shows a much more mid-weight structure and less of the creaminess of either 2015 or 2016. Much of that is attributable to a blend that includes 30% Cabernet Franc. Lavender. rose petal. mint and blueberry fruit all grace the 2018. Far from an obvious wine. the 2018 is going to need a number of years to be at its best. as it is a wine of total understatement and class. Fine beads of tannin support the understated finish. In 2018. VCC is a wine of refinement and subtlety more than anything else. I don't see the same visceral thrill as in a number of vintages of the recent past. Perhaps that will come in bottle.

This is the optimal blend - with more Cabernet Franc coming through this year, since it was amazing. Deep garnet-purple colored, it slips seductively out of the glass with glamorous notes of baked black cherries, warm blueberries and raspberry tart plus wafts of kirsch, red roses, rose hip tea, espresso. licorice and sandalwood. Full-bodied. rich. concentrated and delivering opulent black fruit layers, the palate has a firm frame of lovely, ripe, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and fragrant. Medium garnet-purple colored. it comes spilling out of the glass with the most beautiful floral perfume of lilacs and lavender over a core of black and red cherries. black raspberries and cedar chest plus hints of tobacco and chocolate mint. Medium to full-bodied. the palate is elegantly styled with beautiful floral and cherry layers framed by velvety tannins. finishing long and fragrant.

Today. the fruit is a bit muted. although the wine's power. depth and overall structure are very much present. Mocha. espresso. grilled herbs and leather build into the dark. somber finish.

Close to perfection. this extraordinary blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc seems to have hit all the high notes in 2012. Inky ruby/purple with stunning concentration. a multidimensional mouthfeel. skyscraper-like texture and fabulous purity of blue. red and black fruits. this is a tour de force from this estate owned by Christian Moueix. The potential complexity and sheer compelling quality of Hosanna is amazing. Aromatically. this may be the most profound wine of the vintage. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.

The 2015 Vieux Château Certan is every bit as magnificent from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich. sumptuous and explosive in the glass. the 2015 is pure class. The flavors are deep and boldly sketched in this sumptuous. spectacularly ripe Pomerol. Inky blue/purplish fruit. spice. lavender. licorice and menthol all develop in the glass. but it is the wine's textural richness and intensity that stand out most. As good as the 2015 is today. it is going to need at least 15-20 years to be at its very best. Is there anything more I can ask of the 2015? No. there is not. This is a tremendous showing.

The 2015 Vieux Chateau Certan was bottled in mid-May as usual. This was one of the wines of the vintage out of barrel. and now it has a compelling bouquet with blackberry. smoke and iris. There is wonderful delineation here. a cerebral bouquet that is quite mercurial in the glass. traces of black truffle emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and just a killer line of acidity. a Vieux Chateau Certan surfeit with energy and joie de vivre. It fans out in glorious. almost swaggering fashion with truffle and white pepper. a touch of truffle on the persistent finish. This is clearly destined to be one among the canon of legendary wines from the estate although it does deserve requisite cellaring. This is one of the wines of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2025 - 2055.
