The richest and flat-out sexiest of the single vineyards this year, the 2018 Holy Grail Seppeltsfield Road Seppeltsfield Shiraz offers up a compelling nose of caramelized meat, warm raspberries, vanilla and an array of dried spices. It's full-bodied without being over the top at all (it's labeled at 14.1% alcohol), supple, fleshy and generous yet structured, with a reverberating finish that echoes with fruit and savory nuances. It should be delicious over the course of its entire life, which should be well over a decade.

Christian Balog beschreibt den Wein Two Hands 2017 Yacca Block Shiraz – Eden Valley wie folgt:

Die Nase ist zu Beginn noch etwas verdeckt und strömt noch nicht ganz so intensiv aus dem Glas. Auch hier gibt es wieder einen Korb dunkler Waldbeeren, etwas Tabak und wieder weitere schwarzbeerige Frucht. Im Mund dann ist er einnehmend und kleidet den Gaumen wie in einen Samtmantel ein super poliertes Tannin. Im Ausklang dann mit viel saftiger Frucht und zart floralen Anklängen.

Nachverkostung: Der Wein ist etwas kompakter geworden was seine Tanninstruktur betrifft. Kaum zu glauben, aber er hat wohl nochmal an Fruchtintensität gewonnen. Auch seine würzig röstige Komponente ist etwas deutlicher wahrzunehmen. Hier schlummert noch einiges an Potenzial. 95+ Punkte

The blueberry and rosemary-scented 2017 Yacca Block Menglers Hill Shiraz bursts from the glass with another level of intensity. It's full-bodied but not overdone at all, with bright fruit, crisp acids and a supple, silky finish that extends for well over a minute. Hints of mocha, licorice and baking spices bring complexity on the nose and finish, making it one of this impressive lineup's top wines.

Der Coach House Block Shiraz stammt von einem einzigen Weinberg in der Nähe des kleinen Dorfes Greenock im Barossa Valley. Der im Jahr 2001 erworbene Coach House Weinberg (früher bekannt als Branson Coach House) produziert außergewöhnlichen Barossa Valley Shiraz, aber ein Block unter den 18 Hektar Weinberg hat sich immer wieder als besonders erwiesen. Dieser besondere Block, der intern als Highway Block bekannt ist, hat sich bei Blindverkostungen bei Two Hands in jedem Jahrgang als Single Vineyard-Qualität erwiesen.

The inky-hued 2019 Coach House Block Seppeltsfield Road Greenock Shiraz boasts strikingly floral aromas that hint at lavender and hibiscus, some minty, herbal notes and layers of mixed red and black raspberries. I love the complexities this wine evokes in so-called lesser vintages (like the 2017 and this one). The fabulous thing about this wine is that those complexities don't come at a cost of increased astringency or elevated acids—this medium to full-bodied effort continues to flow effortlessly across the palate, supple yet rich, creamy yet structured, long and softly dusty on the finish. It's a wonderful representation of Shiraz from Greenock, at the western rim of the Barossa Valley.

Two Hands Dave's Block 2019 Shiraz McLaren Vale

Dave's Block ist ein ganz besonderer alter Weinberg auf einer erhöhten Lage in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale. Der Boden ist klassischer weißer Sand über Lehm, die kühlere Höhenlage lässt die Trauben langsam reifen. Dieser Weinberg wurde aus Stecklingen des Kay Brother's Block Six angelegt, einem bekannten Weinberg mit 110 Jahre alten Rebstöcken. Zuvor als McLaren Vale Komponente für Ares verwendet, wurde Dave's Block Teil der Single Vineyard Series im Jahr 2014, als man bei Two Hands beschlossen hatte, Ares wieder auf 100% Barossa Valley Frucht zu bringen.

Lightly mentholated cherries appear on the nose of the 2019 Shiraz Dave's Block Blythmans Road Blewitt Springs. It's an attractive, medium to full-bodied wine whose modest tannins are accentuated on the finish by the acidity, giving it a crisp, slightly astringent feel. It lacks the excitement of the 2018 or 2016 but remains a solid effort that should age well.

Waterfall Block ist eine komplexe Steillage, die man gesehen haben muss, um sie zu verstehen: Er hat viele kurze, steile Reihen, die vor dem frühen Morgenlicht vom höchsten Punkt der Mount Lofty Ranges im Hintergrund und vor der sengenden Spätsonne von einem steilen Hang im Norden geschützt sind. Dies ist ein erstaunliches Mikroklima, das es den ertragsarmen Reben ermöglicht, in aller Ruhe zu reifen

One of the bigger, more powerful of the Block wines this vintage, the 2019 Waterfall Block Waterfall Gully Road Burnside Shiraz is a full-bodied, velvety, well-behaved beast of a wine. Swirls of mixed berries combine with mocha and dark chocolate, finishing with layers of flavor and texture. While its elevated alcohol (it's listed at 14.9% alcohol) may mean it's not quite as long-lived as some of the other 2019 bottlings, it should still go 10 years easily.

Two Hands Holy Grail 2019 Shiraz Barossa Valley

Der Holy Grail Shiraz stammt aus dem Estate Single Vineyard in der Unterregion von Seppeltsfield im Barossa Valley. Der erste Teil dieser Lage wurde 2008 erworben und umfasste 52 Hektar unbebautes Land. Die Vision war, zu warten, bis die Ressourcen es zulassen, und dieses Stück Land so gezielt wie möglich zu bepflanzen. Kurz vor der Weinlese 2015 wurden weitere 37 Hektar Land erworben, darunter 16 Hektar mit etablierten Shiraz-Reben. Dieser Weinberg produzierte 27 Tonnen in seinem ersten Jahrgang, wobei die Früchte in My Hands, Ares, Single Vineyard und einige Fässer in Bellas Garten gingen.

While the 2019 Holy Grail Seppeltsfield Road Seppeltsfield Shiraz lacks the compelling richness of the previous vintage or the intoxicating complexity of the Coach House Block, it's still a fabulous wine. Slightly caramelized red raspberries lead the way, joined by blueberries and lent a savory touch through hints of black olives and licorice. It's medium to full-bodied, ripe and generous, with a lush, velvety feel and a lingering, harmonious and even elegant finish that never seems heavy or overdone, sip after sip.

Der Yacca Block liegt an der Bergkuppe des Menglers Hill und ist ein Paradebeispiel dafür, welche Rolle die Subregion bei der seriösen Weinherstellung spielt, denn dieser Weinberg ist nur 25 Autominuten von den Western Ranges des Barossa Valley entfernt. Der Boden hier besteht aus einer Mischung aus Quarz und Eisenstein, und die Höhenlage des Weinbergs ermöglicht eine langsame Reifung, die zu einem sehr weichen und eleganten Shiraz führt.

The deep, densely colored 2019 Yacca Block Menglers Hill Shiraz starts off with notes of bay leaf and sage, develops luscious dark-fruit notes of blueberries and blackberries, then turns more savory—black olives and licorice—on the finish. It's full-bodied, rich and concentrated yet remains balanced and refreshing on the long finish. One of the more complex and balanced of the Block wines most vintages, it appears to be a pretty consistent vineyard.

Hier zeigt sich eine sehr schöne üppige Nase mit warmen reifen Frucht, Schwarzkirsche, Cassis, Brombeere und etwas Schokolade. Im Mund reif, warm ein bisschen good old Barossa im Stil. Tolle Röstaromen im Nachhall null Marmelade, null zu fett, zudem findet sich der typische Eukalyptusduft. Faszinierend diese leichten Veilchennuancen die den Wein zart untermalen. Sehr gute Länge, delikater Nachgeschmack. 97 Punkte

Nachverkostung: Sehr konstanter Eindruck, er hat etwas mehr an Charm gewonnen und macht super viel Spass.

Hugely concentrated without being overly big or bulky. the 2017 Holy Grail Seppeltsfield Road Seppeltsfield Shiraz delivers waves of blueberry and blackberry fruit. Yes. it's full-bodied and ideally needs a couple of years in the cellar. but it's not too far off from being approachable already. The finish is tremendous. packing in plenty of fruit as well as spicy and herbal complexities that linger for minutes.

Dunkles Rubinrot von hoher Dichte. in der Nase zarte Süße. Amarenakirsche. Gebäck. Cassis. Pflaume. Am Gaumen saftig. Blaubeere. Brombeere. Cassis. viel Extrakt. leicht süßliche Kirsche im Abgang. Kerniges Tannin. Menthol. Süßholz. langer und mineralischer Abgang. Feingliedrig und doch kraftvoll. 2 Jahre in der Flasche werden nicht schaden um das Tannin etwas zu schleifen. 92-94+
Bei der Nachverkostung deutlich komplexere und würzigere Avancen. am Gaumen vielschichtiger. Nachbewertung auf 95 (bezogen auf den aktuellen Entwicklungsstand)
