The 2020 Péby Faugères sports a deep purple-black color and pronounced notes of blueberry preserves, plum pudding and Christmas cake, followed by hints of licorice, Indian spices and sandalwood with a waft of wild mushrooms. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with concentrated black fruit preserves, framed by super firm, ripe, grainy tannins and tons of freshness, finishing very long and spicy. This wine has all the volume nobs turned to maximum—and it works! Definitely one for the hedonists, though.

The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit, sweet morello cherries and a dash of black pepper. Plush and quite decadent on the finish, in keeping with its style. I will be the contrarian as ever and not for the first time, pin my colors to the mast of the 2020 Faugères as my pick over Péby-Faugères, though hedonists will think otherwise.

98 The 2020 Château Trotte Vieille has closed down since I tasted it as a barrel sample in 2021 and needs lots of air, but this is an incredibly gorgeous wine. Its dense purple hue is followed by powerful, inward bouquet of ripe, incredibly pure black and blue fruits, smoky oak, tons of minerality, and a kiss of violets that takes lots of air to shine. The palate is similar in style, with a concentrated, focused, almost austere edge that carries beautiful tannins, awesome extract, flawless overall balance, and a great finish. While it's unquestionably a brilliant wine, it's not for those looking for instant gratification and is much more reserved than the 2019 at this stage. Hide bottles for 7-8 years, and it should have 25 to 30 years of overall longevity.

Fantastic texture and structure to this wine with firm, silky tannins that go on and on. Love the crushed blackberries, blueberries and salt. Floral and mineral character, too. Full and tight with great length. Chewy at the very end, indicating real structure. All about structure and length. 50% cabernet franc, 49% merlot, and 1% cabernet sauvignon.

The 2020 TrotteVieille is quite broody and backward on the nose at first, demanding 15–20 minutes to open. It then reveals blackberry, sea spray/marine scents and hints of crushed chalk and pencil box. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a firm structure, indicating that this is a Saint-Émilion that should be cellared for several years. There is a lovely touch of white pepper and allspice toward the finish. I suspect this is a TrotteVieille that will reward the patient.

It has an alcohol of 13.9% and a pH of 3.5. It is aging in French oak barrels, 25% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with exuberant notes of baked red and black plums, blackberry preserves and mulberries, plus touches of hoisin, licorice and lilacs. The medium-bodied palate delivers a great intensity of black fruits with an approachable, soft texture and a racy line, finishing refreshing.

Von einem Weingut, das in letzter Zeit eine unglaubliche Erfolgsserie hatte – vor allem dank der Talente von Direktor David Suire – zeigt der 2020 Château Laroque den kühleren, kalksteinbetonten Stil des Terroirs auf wunderschöne Weise. Er präsentiert eine klare, fokussierte Stilistik mit dunklen (fast bläulichen) Beerenfrüchten, kreidiger Mineralität, Veilchen, Gewürzen und floralen Nuancen. Am Gaumen mittelkräftig, ist dieser fokussierte, gradlinige und bemerkenswert reine Saint-Émilion von großartiger Tiefe im Mittelgaumen und einem hervorragenden Abgang. Er sollte, wenn möglich, für solide 4–5 Jahre im Keller verborgen bleiben und wird eine Langlebigkeit von 30 Jahren haben. Wenn er schon bald getrunken wird, sollte er für eine Stunde in der Karaffe belüftet werden.

Der 2020 Laroque ist sehr gelungen und entfaltet Aromen von Kirschen, minzigen Brombeeren, Lakritz und Lorbeerblatt. Mittel- bis vollmundig, samtig und vielschichtig, mit guter Tiefe im Kern, kreidigen, aber fein strukturierten Tanninen und einem salinen Abgang. Eine weitere starke Leistung für diesen aufstrebenden Star aus Saint-Émilion.

Aromen von süßen Beeren mit Kräutern, feuchten Erd- und Moosnoten sowie frischen Pilzen. Mittel- bis vollmundig, mit ultrafeinen, cremigen Tanninen und einem schönen Abgang. Elegant und raffiniert. Ab 2025 genießen, aber schon jetzt sehr ansprechend.

Antonio Galloni ist im Dezember 2022 voll des Lobes für den JG 2020 des Chateau Laroque

Der 2020 Laroque ist sogar besser als die en primeur Probe. Dunkel und umhüllend, mit Tonnen von Klasse, Laroque ist ein Gewinner. Fleischige dunkle Pflaume, Kies, Gewürze, Menthol, Lakritze und Pfeifentabak geben den 2020 Tonnen Nuancen. Laroque ist personifizierter. Der Winzer David Suire macht hier wichtige Arbeit.

Sowohl William Kelley vom Wineadvocate als auch Antonio Galloni von Vinous haben das Chateau Franc Mayne im JG 2020 dramatisch aufgewertet gegenüber den verhaltenen Fassproben. Bei Parker ging es von 91-93 rauf auf glatte 94 Punkte und bei Antonio Galloni von Vinous sogar noch dramatisch mehr. Von 89-91 Punkten als Fassmuster auf glatte 96 Punkte, es gibt sehr wenige Weine die das überhaupt jemals geschafft haben. Auffällig ist das sich beim Chateau Franc Mayne viele Verkoster einig sind, dass die jüngst erzeugten Qualitäten hier massiv nach oben zeigen,

Auch ich konnte den Franc Mayne 2020 auf der Prowein in Düsseldorf nachverkosten und ich kann Ihnen versichern es ist kein Zufall, dass die Verkoster das Weingut neu und höher bewerten. Es geht hier wirklich bergauf, wollen wir hoffen, dass die Preise nicht so kometenhaft steigen wie die gebotene Qualität.

Das Chateau ist seit Jahren eines meiner Liebsten. Hier auf dem kleinen famileingeführten Chateau Pindefleurs, deren Weinberge nur ein Steinwurf von berühmten Nachbarn wie Angelus und Le Dome entfernt liegt, spielt die Merlottraube seine Reize voll aus. Aus dem Glas strömen viele dunkle reife Früchte, eine sehr saftige Kirsche und kleine schwarze Waldbeeren. Ein kleiner Anteil von Cabernet Franc verleiht dem Wein seine zarte Würze, es gesellen sich ein paar röstige Noten wie Mokka hinzu. Im Mund ist der Pindefleurs 2020 ganz besonders, was auffällt, ist diese schöne mineralische Struktur. Trotz Kraft und Power ist der 2020iger hier so fein wie ich Ihn noch nie im Glas hatte. Es wirk fast so als hätte das Chateau Pindefleurs einen weiteren Schlüssel gefunden um die nächste Qualitätsstufe zu erreichen. Stark ! 93+ Punkte
