The 2017 Larcis Ducasse is just as compelling from bottle as it was from barrel. Pliant and deep. with terrific fruit purity. Larcis possesses striking fruit purity and tons of resonance. Red cherry. blood orange. pomegranate. mint. spice. licorice and mocha infuse the 2017 with striking complexity as well as nuance. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this gem. Larcis is never one of the most obvious wines in Saint-Émilion. but it is often among the most regal. Best of all. Larcis remains one of the best values anywhere in the world.

Deep garnet-purple in color. the 2017 Larcis Ducasse (a blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc) has a very enticing nose of kirsch. warm blackberries. baked plums and wild blueberries with hints of pencil lead. tar. tilled soil and forest floor. Medium-bodied. the palate is tightly knit with great poise and subtlety. offering bright. energetic fruit and loads of minerally sparks. finishing with great length.

The 2017 Larcis Ducasse is a rich. sensual wine. with softer contours and more plushness than is typically the case. part of which is attributable to the vintage and part of which is the result of gentler winemaking. Dark red cherry and plum fruit is nicely pushed forward in this succulent. racy Saint-Émilion. Mocha. licorice and menthol wrap around the juicy. pliant finish. The 2017 is an especially succulent. racy Larcis. It has been consistently brilliant on the four occasions I have tasted it so far.

This has a very attractive. ripe black-fruit nose with toasted spices. violets and dark-stone notes. Iodine and cedar. too. The palate is powerful and has quite intense flavors of blackberries and blueberries with a super rich and ripe frame of tannin that carries long and expands the finish in impressive style. Very long. Try from 2025. (verkostet am 19.12.2019)

The 2017 Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse is powerful and backward. with huge tannins wrapped around a core of black cherry. smoke. charcoal. licorice. blackberry jam and graphite. Exotic and rich in the glass. the 2017 needs time to soften. but it is immensely promising. not to mention utterly captivating. Tasted three times.

Nicolas Audebert and his team have done it again. The 2017 Canon is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintage. Rich and vertical in construction. the 2017 possesses off-the-charts richness and intensity in all of its dimensions. In the glass. the 2017 is sumptuous and layered. with superb detail and tons of sheer pedigree. In 20 years. readers will have a fabulous time tasting the 2015. 2016. 2017 and 2018 together and debating their respective merits. Dark plum fruit. striking Franc aromatics and the clean. focused energy of Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau make for a ravishing. exquisite wine of the highest level. In a word: breathtaking.

Showing spectacularly, the 2017 Chateau Canon checks in as a final blend of 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc that’s from one of the most exceptional terroirs in the appellation. Hitting 14% alcohol (the pH is 3.66), it reveals a ruby/purple hue as well as gorgeously sweet raspberries and cassis-like fruit interwoven with notes of spring flowers, rose petal, white chocolate, and spice. While it doesn’t have the massive opulence of the 2015 and 2016, it’s more classically styled as well flawlessly balanced, with a terrific sense of minerality, ultra-fine tannins, and a brilliant finish. Give bottles 5-7 years in the cellar, and it will evolve gracefully for 30-40 years. Hats off to Nicolas Audebert as well as the team of Thomas Duclos for one of the wines of the vintage!

The 2017 Troplong Mondot is stunning. just as it was en primeur. Rich and ample. yet endowed with striking energy as well. the 2017 is the first vintage made by new CEO Aymeric de Gironde and consulting winemaker Thomas Duclos. The 2017 takes hold of all the senses and never lets up. All of the power that is typical of this site is evident. it seems to come so naturally. and yet picking earlier and then using a lighter hand in the cellar yielded a Troplong of uncommon energy and vibrancy. The 2017 has been nothing short of thrilling on the four occasions I have tasted it from bottle so far. What a wine!

The 2017 Chateau Troplong Mondot continues in the new style of this estate and is based on 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Cabernet Franc from healthy yields of 48 hectoliters per hectare. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by a stunning perfume of creme de cassis, black raspberries, white chocolate, crushed flowers, and a terrific sense of minerality. Flawlessly balanced, medium to full-bodied, and nicely concentrated, it shows the more elegant, classical style of the vintage beautifully. It has the texture and balance to drink brilliantly today yet will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and keep for two decades or more.
