Extremely long and beautiful. One of the best young Montroses in a long. long time.

The deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Montrose opens with broody black fruits. menthol and anise notes with a core of cassis. blueberries and mulberries plus a touch of cedar chest. The medium-bodied mouth is firm and chewy with a good core of muscular fruit and a long. earthy finish.

67 % Cabernet Sauvignon. 29 % Merlot. 4 % Cabernet Franc. 37 % der Produktion wurde als Grand Vin selektioniert. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Intensives Bouquet. geprägt von reifem und tiefgründigem Cabernet. Trüffelspuren. Brombeeren aber auch dunkle Edelhölzer und Pumpernickelbrot. ergänzt durch Schwarzschokotöne in dazu passenden Merlots. Schon das Nasenbild hat etwas Royales an sich. Im Gaumen fest. beeindruckend. verlangend und somit eine umfassende Adstringenz zeigend. dunkles Malz. Lakritze. Szechuanpfeffer. rassig und kraftvoll. Doch er zeigt eine Harmonie an und auch seine Erhabenheit. Er klang minutenlang nach. und war noch lange präsent als ich im Auto von Montrose nach Cos fuhr. Grosses Montrose-Kino!

The 2015 Montrose is a blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon. 29% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc that was picked between 15 September and 8 October. the fruit sorted three times using three sorting tables. then an optical sorting machine and finally by hand. Matured in 65% new oak. it possesses some of the best aromatics you will find in the appéllation - billowing blackberry. cassis and boysenberry scents all beautifully defined and seamlessly integrated with the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. commendable depth and a vibrant bead of acidity that lends this Montrose tension from start to finish. The class comes through strongly in this wine. perhaps the best Saint Estèphe this year. Give this a decade in bottle. more if you can. since Montrose tends to repay cellaring.

Der Chateau Montrose 2014 ist ganz klar ein Highlight nicht nur im Medoc sondern für das gesamte Bordeaux.

The finish is ramrod straight thanks to an iron girder supporting everything with ease. A tremendous effort for the vintage. Best from 2020 through 2035. From France .—J.M.

Incredible aromas of currants. blackberries. slate and flowers. Full-bodied yet so tight and beautiful with superb polish and brightness. The length is fantastic. Truly superb. Drink in 2021.

Tasted twice in Bordeaux in the early part of 2017. the 2014 Montrose replicated its showing at the property as part of the vertical in September 2016. It has that exquisite blackberry. cedar and blood orange scented nose that feels so effervescent even at this early stage. The palate is beautifully balanced with crisp. tensile black fruit. filigree tannin. perhaps in recent months developing a little more spiciness on the finish. It is just a beautiful. regal and complete Montrose that will give decades of drinking pleasure. Tasted February 2017.

Tasted at the château. the 2014 Montrose builds on the promise it showed in barrel with gorgeous blackberry. raspberry. cedar and orange sorbet scents that are extremely pure and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. very precise acidity and layers of crisp black fruit laced with vanilla from the new oak at the moment. That will be subsumed in time. What you have here is a very precise. multi-layered. almost sensual Montrose that is going to delight many for years to come. This is highly recommended—one of the finest Left Bank wines this vintage. Tasted September 2016.

Quite the bottle here! Spices. such as nutmeg and cinnamon. as well as dried meat and plums with cedar and sandalwood. Full body. Deep and dense in the center palate and a long. long finish. Shows finesse and tightness. Very polished tannins. Long and ethereal. Try after 2023

Composed of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon. 32% Merlot. 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. yields for the grand vin in 2017 were 43 hectoliters per hectare. and it was aged in 60% new oak. It came in at an alcohol of 13% and an IPT of 68. Deep garnet-purple colored. the 2017 Cos d'Estournel needs a little coaxing to unfurl. revealing beautiful expressions of preserved plums. boysenberries. blackcurrant pastilles and wild blueberries with hints of Indian spices. menthol. lilacs and mossy tree bark plus a compelling suggestion of iron ore.

Medium to full-bodied. the palate has a solid backbone of firm. grainy tannins and well-knit freshness supporting the tightly wound blue and black fruits layers. finishing long and fragrant. This wine will need a good 5-7 years in bottle before it begins to blossom and should go on for at least another 40 years. I expect this wine to be a blockbuster of a head-turner when I come back and taste it at 10 years of age!

A bold. dramatic wine. the 2017 Cos d'Estournel is seriously impressive today. Time in barrel has done wonders for the 2017. a wine that has really gained depth in élevage. Black cherry. chocolate. spice. new leather. licorice. smoke and incense infuse the 2017 with tons of character. with the 60% new oak very well judged. In 2017. Cos has a level of textural resonance that eludes many Saint-Estèphes. The blend is 66% Cabernet Sauvignon. 32% Merlot. 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc.

The 2017 Cos d’Estournel showed extremely well from barrel and likewise in bottle. continuing this estate’s strong run of form since the 2014 vintage. You instantaneously fall in love with the nose that bursts forth with blackberry. raspberry coulis. crushed stone. iodine and pressed iris petal. The 60% new oak is beautifully integrated. Quintessentially Cos d’Estournel. The palate is medium-bodied with supple black fruit laced with black truffle and graphite. quite Pauillac-like in style. which is no surprise given its location. This is very focused and perhaps understated compared to the 2016. yet its freshness and vivacity are undeniable. "Streamlined. cool and linear" I wrote at en primeur... I have no reason to alter that sentiment.

Black cherry, plum, new leather, graphite and incense build as this flamboyant, opulent Saint-Estèphe shows off its considerable allure. The 2019 is a big wine, but the 15.1% alcohol is not especially evident.

The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth, slightly lactic entry and fine acidity, maybe not quite as "crunchy" as I recall, yet still satisfyingly persistent.

Saftig, elegant, angenehme Süße, reife Tannine, gute Frische, bereits entwickelt und antrinkbar, würziger Nachhall.
