The violets. roses and dark fruits are so evident but they entice you in a subtle and fresh way. Full-bodied. dense and tannic. yet everything is so in tune with everything else and there are no hard edges or loose ends. It’s like a whirlpool that draws you down and then shows you its beauty. The harmony and complexity is phenomenal.

Try in 2024 but I don’t want to wait.

A blend of 90% Merlot. 9% Cabernet Sauvignon. and 1% Cabernet Franc matured in 65% new and 35% one-year-old French oak for 16 months. the 2015 Clinet offers a medium to deep garnet-purple color and slowly. provocatively unfurls in the glass with notes of crushed black cherries. warm black raspberries and red cherry compote plus nuances of bay leaves. cinnamon stick. star anise. fenugreek and forest floor and wafts of potpourri and mocha. The palate reveals a sensuous medium-bodied style offset beautifully by very firm. very silky tannins and packed with energetic. multifaceted fruit as well as great tension. finishing long with an arresting spice and floral perfume. A real stunner!

A dramatic. sweeping Pomerol. the 2015 Clinet is ample. racy and voluptuous from the very first taste. Those qualities are going to make the 2015 nearly impossible to resist young. Readers who can wait will be rewarded with a racy. deeply layered Pomerol of the highest level. For now. the raciness of the dark red cherry and plum fruit suggests a very bright future. Hints of rose petal. mint and licorice add the closing shades of nuance. What a gorgeous wine this is.

OMG. This is really dense and rich with velvety tannins and so much fruit and length. Super concentration and structure. Greatest Clinet ever. No jam. Just class.

The 2015 Clinet is a blend of 90% Merlot. 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc. cropped at 37 hl/ha and matured in 65% new oak. It was picked from 15 September commencing with the young Merlot vines. and finishing between 28 and 1 October with the very old Merlots and the Cabernets. A couple of specific features to note: the alcohol level is 14.3%. perhaps a little lower than some of Clinet's peers and also a IPT of up to 88. higher than 2010 even. Broody at first. it eventually develops a perfumed bouquet as it opens. with black fruit. melted tar and a brush of black truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is plenty of nascent energy in this Clinet. spicier than other vintages that I have tasted over the years. linear at first and then fanning out towards the finish with a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. It is a very harmonious Clinet. one that I suspect will favor those with the nous to age this Pomerol for 5-7 years. even though it might tempt you earlier. This is a great Pomerol from Ronan Laborde and his team.

This 6.68-hectare vineyard is situated between Trotanoy and Latour à Pomerol on gravel and sand-based soils. Average vine age is 34 years, and yields were 45 hectoliters per hectare. It is aging in 70% new and 30% second year barrels, where it will stay for an estimated 16 months. The wine has 14.9% alcohol and is blended of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. Deep purple-black colored, the 2018 Feytit Clinet is a little shy to begin, unfurling to reveal wild blueberries, warm plums and black cherries with hints of violets, iron ore. pencil shavings and damp soil. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated. it has a firm, velvety texture and bags of opulent fruit, finishing earthy. About 18.000 bottles will be made.

Proprietor Jeremy Chasseuil turned out another gorgeous wine at Feytit-Clinet. Although the 2018 does not have the explosive energy of some past vintages. in exchange it will drink well with minimal cellaring. Cedar, tobacco, gravel, dried flowers, mint, spice and incense build as this richly textured, layered Pomerol shows off its class. As always, Feytit-Clinet is one of the most virile, potent wines of Pomerol and all of Bordeaux, for that matter. The blend is 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. Tasted three times.

Close to perfection. this extraordinary blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc seems to have hit all the high notes in 2012. Inky ruby/purple with stunning concentration. a multidimensional mouthfeel. skyscraper-like texture and fabulous purity of blue. red and black fruits. this is a tour de force from this estate owned by Christian Moueix. The potential complexity and sheer compelling quality of Hosanna is amazing. Aromatically. this may be the most profound wine of the vintage. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.

One of the most seamless, ethereal wines in the vintage, the 2018 Château La Fleur-Petrus checks in as 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot coming from a 45-acre vineyard of deep clay and gravelly soils located on the upper plateau of Pomerol. The vines average 35 years in age, and the élevage spans 16-18 months in 50% new French oak. Unquestionably in the same league as Trotanoy, Le Gay, Lafleur, Hosanna, and the other leviathans of the region, its deep purple hue is followed by a gorgeously layered, multi-dimensional 2018 with full-bodied aromas and flavors of black raspberry and blackcurrant fruits intermixed with spring flowers, dried herbs, and a hint of white truffle. Medium to full-bodied, with stunning symmetry and balance, its tannins are ripe and polished, and it has nicely integrated acidity as well as a great finish. It should drink well for another 20-25 years.

Super nose of dried blueberry, black plum, walnut, myrrh and sandalwood. Lavender, violet, and chocolate, too. Ripe with wood now, but fresh. It’s full-bodied with firm, ultra fine tannins. Lots of dark spice is interlaced with the ripe fruit, giving this complex, perfumed character. Muscular, long and seamless with incredible depth and concentration. Reminds me of the great 2009, but this is better with more structure. Amazing wine. This is 100% merlot. Try from 2027.

Dried herbs, iron, gravel and crushed rose petals all lend gorgeous savory nuance to a core of potent red berry fruit. Trotanoy is a Pomerol for those who can be patient. The 2018, though, is extraordinarily beautiful right out of the gate.

Another heavenly Pomerol in the vintage, the 2018 Château Trotanoy checks in as 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc brought up in (I suspect) lots of new French oak (although it's certainly not apparent). Revealing a dense purple hue as well as a smorgasbord-like bouquet of blackcurrants, dried flowers, cured meats, violets, tobacco, and chocolate, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a sexy, seductive texture, building yet sweet tannins, and just a rich, concentrated, yet flawless profile on the palate that's already impossible to resist. Nevertheless, a good 7-8 years of bottle age are warranted, and this magical elixir is going to evolve for 40 years or more.

The 2018 Trotanoy is composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it slowly unfurls to reveal a jaw-dropping perfume of Black Forest cake, black raspberries, blackberry pie and kirsch, followed by hints of cast-iron pan, violets, woodsmoke, Chinese five spice and eucalyptus, with a waft of tree bark. The full-bodied palate explodes with exotic spice and mineral fireworks, grounded by a concentrated, black and red berry preserves core and framed by firm, grainy tannins, finishing with epic length and depth. It will need a good five years in bottle to tame some of the youthfully overt, showy fruit and allow the mineral and earth nuances to emerge, then it should easily cellar another 35 years or more

The 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus has an entrancing bouquet that demands your attention, delivering a mixture of red and black fruit, licorice, fresh fig and potpourri. The oak here is beautifully integrated. The palate is very harmonious, with ripe, succulent tannins that frame the concentrated black cherry and red plum fruit, and a dash of white pepper and sage, fanning out wonderfully toward the finish. It’s almost like a slightly toned-down version of the Hosanna. This exceeds my expectations. A brilliant Pomerol.

The 2019 Château La Fleur-Pétrus is a stunning example of what makes a great Pomerol – richness without weight, incredible elegance, complexity, and length, all of which it has in abundance. Giving up darker, powerful aromatics of blackcurrants, darker cherries, tobacco, chocolate, and just hints of spring flowers, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, concentrated, incredibly sexy mouthfeel, perfect tannins, and a great finish. It's one of the most opulent, seamless, impressive wines in the vintage, although it needs at least 7-8 years of bottle age. It should be a 30- to 40-year wine. Bravo!

The 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus is pure and total seduction. Trotanoy and perhaps also Hosanna have traditionally been viewed as more exclusive Pomerols in the Moueix portfolio. The more time passes, the less I share that view. Sure, La Fleur-Pétrus does not have the mystique associated from a small single vineyard - as many Pomerols do - and yet there is no denying the elegance and class here. Bright red fleshed fruit, blood orange and exotic spice race across the palate, framed by silky, plush tannins that wrap it all together. La Fleur-Pétrus is fabulous. That's all there is to it.

The 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus dares to outshine Trotanoy this year, wafting from the glass with aromas of rich berry fruit, plum preserve, dark chocolate, cigar box and spices. Full-bodied, rich and enveloping, it's broad and layered, with beautifully polished tannins, a ripe core of fruit and a seamless, enveloping profile. This is an elegantly muscular, generous Pomerol whose sumptuous personality reflects the warm, dry vintage.
