The regional 2019 Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes was produced with a blend of grapes from 80 plots in eight villages from Priorat, 82% Garnacha with 17% Cariñena and 1% white grapes, a year unusually high in Garnacha and unusually low in Cariñena that suffered a lot from the heat. The destemmed and lightly crushed grapes fermented in concrete and oak vats with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in French oak barrels for 12 months. What happened here is that Cariñena was burned by a heat spike of 43 degrees Celsius on the 28th of June, and there was a wildfire in Montsant that perhaps could have warmed things up even more. I think there might be a change toward more Garnacha and elegance in the wines from Álvaro Palacios in Priorat, as this is brighter and less rustic than this wine used to be, more polished, perfumed and fine. The year of heat and drought. 101,600 bottles produced.

A solid Priorat with fine-grained tannins and mineral, berry and light spice undertones. Medium body. Fruity and focused finish. Drink or hold.

Die Verkostungsnotiz von Luis Gutierrez zum Palacios Remondo Rioja Finca La Montesa Rioja 2020 (Juli 2022):

2020 is a powerful vintage; it's structured and textured, the oak is very nicely integrated (12 months in barrel, but the powerful wine absorbed it completely), and it's powerful with 14% alcohol and a pH of 3.55, a little darker than in previous years. The tannins are very fine with a subtle chalky texture. There were 2,319 barrels that resulted in 672,000 bottles, 10,000 magnums and some larger and smaller formats. It was bottled from April 2022.produced.

James Suckling bewertet den Palacios Remondo Rioja Finca La Montesa Rioja 2020 (Januar 2023):

Medium ruby hue, with a bright and racy nose that’s full of pretty berries, redcurrants, fresh strawberries and potpourri. Medium-bodied and naturally juicy on the palate, showing lots of crunch and drinkability. Fresh, transparent and silky. Drink or hold.

Luis Gutiérrez über den Descendientes de José Palacios Petalos Bierzo 2021,Bierzo (August 2022):

2021 is clearly the finest vintage of the trio of 2020, 2021 and 2022, and the bottled 2021 Pétalos delivers what the unbottled samples promised: a wine with lower alcohol than ever (13.5%), lighter, a little narrower but with the juiciness of Mencía that seems to come back after some time in bottle. It has lots of notes of aromatic herbs, with some similar aromas to the La Faraona. It's quite expressive and showy, very pleasant and easy to drink, very gourmand, with a velvety mouthfeel and very fine tannins. 320,000 bottles and 2,567 magnums produced. It was bottled between November 2022 and March 2023. Approachable now, very hedonistic.

Dunkle, reife Früchte und Röstaromen

Dieser Wein ist ein toller Einstieg in die spanische Welt des Rioja. Trinkfreudig, dunkel im Glas und noch nicht zu fordernd. Mittlere Länge, eher weiche Tannine und durcjhweg fruchtig.
Für den Jahrgang 2021 gab James Suckling durchaus beachtliche 90 Punkte. "Lebendig und frisch mit rassigen Erdbeeren, zerdrückten Himbeeren und einem Hauch von Zement und Blumen. Knackig und hell mit einem saftigen, mittleren Körper, abgerundet durch weiche, leichte Tannine. Fruchtig und gut ausbalanciert, sofort ansprechend. Jetzt genießen."
