The 2018 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that is aged in oak for 15 months. The wine shows depth, concentration and generous fruit weight that adds to the intensity and the textural importance of this abundant, full-bodied expression. Late-season rains threw some challenges at the winemakers of Bolgheri, but this open-knit wine has emerged unscathed.

95 Sucklingpunkte für den95 Punkte von James Suckling (22. April 2021):
The aromas of currants, tobacco, chocolate and mushrooms are very attractive here. It’s full-bodied with juicy tannins and a flavorful, round-textured finish. Gorgeous wine and very approachable now, but better in 2023.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denIm Januar 2021 von Antonio Galloni bewertet:
The 2018 Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is everything a second wine should be. Open-knit and silky, with impeccable balance and tons of sheer appeal, the 2018 is exquisite today. I would prefer to drink it on the early side in order to capture all of its freshness. In some vintages, Le Serre Nuove can be a bit imposing; in 2018 is all charm and seduction.

Juni 2019:

Attractive aromas of dried peaches. apples and white pepper with hints of hot stones. following through to a medium to full body. layers of fruit and a fresh and clean finish. I like the brightness and salinity. Drink now.

92+ Punkte Wine Advocate für den Poggio alle Gazze 2016 Tenuta dell OrnellaiaVerkostungsnotiz von Monica Larner für den Jahrgang 2016 vom 06. September 2018:

This is a terrific vintage for white wines along the Tuscan coast. and the 2016 Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia absolutely hits all the high notes. The blend sees anywhere from 70% to 80% Sauvignon Blanc with Viognier and Vermentino in supporting roles. Every once in a while. a dash of Verdicchio is thrown in for good measure. Some 35.000 bottles are produced. This wine is beautifully snappy. tonic and fresh. The effect is especially successful in terms of the palate. where the wine revives and refreshes but not in a banal way. There is enough complexity here—with passion fruits. garden greens. spring flowers and sweet almonds—to keep your attention. sip after sip. This is a profoundly inviting and satisfying wine.

Ornellaia 2017 Bolgheri Superiore DOC 97 SucklingpunkteVerkostungsnotiz James Suckling vom 25.Mai 2020:

A big. rich wine for the vintage. yet poised and lively with firm. chewy tannins that give form and intensity to the wine. It shows loads of blackberry. blackcurrant and walnut flavors. Ripe yet polished tannins. Give this three or four years to come together.2025.

Ornellaia 2017 Bolgheri Superiore DOC 96 Punkte vom Wine AdvocateVerkostungsnotiz von Monica Larner vom Mai 2020:

This vintage of Ornellaia is called Solare and represents the 12th edition in the estate's Vendemmia d'Artista series featuring artwork by Tomás Saraceno. His beautiful art depicts a radiant sun halo and is intended as a symbol of sustainability. That theme of sunshine and warmth is particularly well suited to a vintage such as this. The Ornellaia 2017 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is generous and fruit-forward with dense richness and concentration all driven by the smaller and more compact berry size that characterizes this dry. hot growing season. Black and purple fruits segue to spice. tobacco. leather and some of those beautiful Mediterranean notes of black olive and wild sage. These various moving pieces work together in perfect harmony. The tannins are beautifully managed here. If you consider the more astringent and rougher approach of the mid-tier Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia. this wine shows a whole other level of magnificent tannic management that could not have been easy given the diminutive berry size. This vintage sees a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon. 25% Merlot. 10% Petit Verdot and 9% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard soils are characterized by reddish sand with calcareous rock. The wine is fermented in both stainless steel and cement and is transferred over to barrique to finish malolactic fermentation. It ages in barrique for 18 months followed by another 12 months in bottle. Some 150.000 bottles were released in April 2020.

Ornellaia 2017 Bolgheri Superiore DOC 97 Punkte vom Vinous-TeamVerkostungsnotiz von Antonio Galloni aus März 2020:

A stunning wine. the 2017 Ornellaia offers a captivating interplay of richness and energy. Picking early was the key. Young vine Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc were harvested in August for the first time ever. In the glass. the 2017 offers up an enticing mélange of mocha. cedar. tobacco and licorice. with soft curves that add to its sensuality and allure. The 2017 is sumptuous and racy. as Ornellaias from warmer years tend to be. but it is not at all heavy or overdone. In a word: superb!

Sauvignon Blanc is complemented with smaller parts Vermentino and Viognier to produce the 2019 Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia. This remains one of the great, fresh and easy-drinking whites of the Tuscan Coast, and historically, it has a leg up on most of the newcomer Vermentinos that are so popular now. Indeed, this was the precursor and a direct link to the gastronomy of its birthplace, which is so heavily driven by the catch of the day netted by local fisherman. Floral and exotic fruit tones rise from the pretty bouquet with shadings of green papaya and citrus. About one-half of the total sees some oak aging, and the rest goes into steel vat and cement. The wine is luminous and bright with lots of energy and freshness.

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den92 Punkte auch von Antonio Galloni (anuar 2021):
The 2019 Poggio alle Gazze is bright and beautifully sculpted in this vintage. Lemon peel, white flowers, apple and exotic floral notes are nicely delineated. This is an especially perfumed edition of Poggio alle Gazze. Lime, green apple and exotic floral notes lead into the super-expressive finish.

Ornellaia 2018 Bolgheri Superiore DOC 97 SucklingpunkteVerkostungsnotiz James Suckling vom März 2021:

So aromatic and complex with blackcurrants, blueberries, fresh violets and lavender on the nose. Some graphite and iodine, too. Medium to full body with firm, chewy tannins that are polished and refined, yet the palate is so long and refined. This is an Ornellaia with strength in elegance. Try after 2025.

95 Puntke vom Wine Advocate für den Ornellaia 2018 Bolgheri Superiore DOC Tenuta dell OrnellaiaVerkostungsnotiz von Monica Larner vom Mai 2021:

The 2018 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is complete and seamlessly stitched together with extreme care and precision. This is an almost technical blend of Merlot (at 50% of the blend for the first time), 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot that offers a true sense of wholeness and consistency that speaks to the blending expertise and experience of the winemaking team. Finding harmony among the various vinous components of the wine was especially important in this vintage that prized early-ripening grapes like Merlot over the others. Blackberry and dried cherry segue to spice, tar, campfire ash and more sweet fruit. We're off to a great start, and this vintage of Ornellaia is surely destined to flesh out and grow more complex with age.

Ornellaia 2018 Bolgheri Superiore DOC 97 Punkte vom Vinous-TeamVerkostungsnotiz von Antonio Galloni aus Januar 2021:

The 2018 Ornellaia is an introvert at this stage. Medium in body, with terrific persistence and impeccable balance, the 2018 is not in any mood to show all its cards today. Hints of red berry fruit, mocha, spice, licorice and dried flowers emerge with a bit of coaxing. I won’t be surprised to see it put on weight with more time in bottle. There is certainly plenty to look forward to. Readers should expect a silky, aromatic Ornellaia in line with vintages such as 2004 that are more about finesse than raw power. This is the first time in which Merlot drives the blend in Ornellaia.
