The 2019 Barolo Ginestra Vigna Sorì Ginestra has an almost botanical feel with lots of wildflowers, iris and garden herb that are layered into dark fruit, spice and rusty metal. The wine does not shy back in term of complexity, and there are many more adjectives that could be applied to the bouquet. In terms of mouthfeel, this elegant Barolo is quite smooth, with enough tannins and acidity to guarantee a long aging trajectory. Production is 11,820 bottles.

The Conterno Fantino 2019 Barolo Mosconi Vigna Ped (with 6,250 bottles made) is perhaps more floral, with plenty of rose, and fruity, with lots of cherry, compared to the other new releases in this portfolio. This Barolo is very lively and bright thanks to the lifted quality of its primary fruit. The style is a little more immediate, but this wine delivers lots of satisfying Nebbiolo typicity nonetheless. The tannins show an elegant, dusty side.

The Conterno Fantino 2019 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda is medium dark and more concentrated compared to many of its peers. This wine shows a solid bouquet with fixed aromas of wild cherry, long-stemmed rose and candied orange. With time, even more floral aromas are coaxed forward from the bouquet. Beyond those are oak-driven notes of allspice and cinnamon. The tannins are polished, and the wine offers quite a bit of fruit texture. Production is 6,600 bottles.

Rose petal, orange peel, cinnamon, cedar and red berry fruit all open in a beautifully layered, super-expressive Barolo from Conterno-Fantino. Beams of Castelletto tannin extend the finish while lending a real feeling of vibrancy throughout. The balance of purity and structure is compelling.

Quite robust and powerful on first nose, the 2019 Barolo Ginestra Vigna del Gris needs more time in bottle to flesh out and move past this current youthful phase. This wine is definitely poised to give more to those who wait. It opens to a dark garnet hue and ripe aromas of cherry skin, plum, rose and orange peel. Within the span of a few minutes, it starts to show additional spice and nutmeg. The tannins are still grippy in this 9,100-bottle release.

On the palate, the Gris is a bit nervous, as it always is, yet with superb balance and class. The tannins can be a bit edgy here, but the 2019 keeps everything in check. This is such a pretty wine.

This wine boasts a very etched and linear quality that defines both the bouquet and the mouthfeel. The Conterno Fantino 2017 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda starts in little clicks with wild berry, cassis, dark plum, spice and tar. Those intervals add up quickly to form a greater sense of length and endurance that this wine, made with fruit from silty soils mixed with sand and clay, delivers in both the good years and the more difficult ones alike. I noted an exotic floral component in the 2016 vintage; however, this 2017 edition is far more rooted in dark primary fruit. Light touches of smoke and spice give lift to the finish. This was a release of exactly 6.576 bottles.

This is very structured with fantastic tannins that frame the wine. Dark fruit with ripe strawberries, as well as wet earth and dried black truffles. Full and chewy. Tight finish. Needs four or five years to open. Try after 2025.

I always love the purity of aromas delivered in wine from this 1.8-hectare site with loose, well-draining soils in the celebrated Ginestra cru of Monforte d'Alba. The Conterno Fantino 2017 Barolo Ginestra Vigna del Gris boasts a slightly more delicate and finessed aromatic approach with tighter weaving and an almost fragile personality. However, the warm 2017 vintage conditions do their part to build up the concentrated power and fruit weight of this Barolo. I found this wine to be more reticent in terms of mouthfeel; however, that may be a reflection of my early tasting. I'd love to come back and visit this wine at the 10-year mark and later. This was a release of exactly 9.082 bottles.

This release of about 8,900 bottles is a blend of equal parts Barbera and Nebbiolo from the Ginestra and Bussia crus. The Conterno Fantino 2018 Langhe Rosso Monprà opens to rich and dark concentration with bold cherry and blackberry aromas that cede to spice, toasted hazelnut, tobacco and baking chocolate. The wine spreads smoothly over the palate with rich texture and lasting determination. It finishes with sweet fruit flavors and medium length. Especially considering its 15% alcohol content, you'll want to uncork this beauty alongside a mighty cassoeula magra di manzo, a heavy beef and vegetable casserole from Northern Italy.

The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo Ginestrino is forthcoming and bright with honest aromas that underline forest fruit and wild cherry. This is a pleasurable and easy-drinking wine that shows a mid-weight approach with plenty of bitter almond, tar and pressed violets that appear as background shadings. Fresh acidity makes this a great choice to pair with a creamy beef stroganoff or something similar. Production is 31.350 bottles.

Der Conterno Fantino 2016 Ginestrino Langhe Nebbiolo ist in allen Belangen ein Preis/Genuss-Wunder! Die im Piemont am Fluss Langhe gediehenen Nebbiolotrauben für diesen Wein bringen im 2019er-Jahrgang die Kraft eines Barolo mit der gewünschten Finesse, Frische und Rasse, die man von einem "kleinen" Nebbiolo erwartet. In der Entwicklung schon auf absolut zugänglichem Level, zeigt sich das Tannin zwar robust, aber nicht ganz so kernig wie nach der kurzen Zeit auf der Flasche befürchtet. The Conterno Fantino 2021 Barbera d'Alba Vignota (a certified organic wine) shows a lot of pulp, richness and texture that is woven with generous blackberry and dark fruit flavors. This wine offers a lot of natural intensity thanks to warm growing conditions and marl and limestone soils. This is a 37,000-bottle release.

Der Barbera d'Alba 2022 von Conterno Fantino entfaltet im Glas ausdrucksstarke Aromen von dunklen Sauerkirschen und reifen Erdbeeren. Für Komplextät sorgen die interessanten Aromen von Fichtenhonig und dunkler Schokolade. Der überlegte Holzkontakt fängt auch die für Barbera typische Frische gekonnt ein und sorgt für eine spannende Struktur. in der sich die Aromen gegenseitig bereichern - bis in den langen. harmonischen Abgang hinein.

An important and cellar-worthy wine, the Conterno Fantino 2017 Barolo Ginestra Vigna Sorì Ginestra shows ripe fruit and wild berry, with background tones of grill herb, licorice and pressed blue flowers. There are hints of eucalyptus and white pepper that add extra lift and intensity to the bouquet. This is an excellent wine that is very different from the epic 2016 vintage, which scored an extraordinary and well-deserved 98 points; this vintage does not reach that stratospheric level of complexity or depth. When it is ready to open, note that it carries an alcohol content of 15%, so an elaborate truffle meal is probably in order. Exactly 12.124 bottles were released.
