Vina Sena

uch beautiful aromas of crushed berries, currants, walnuts, allspice and nutmeg follow through to a full body with tight, ultra fine tannins that provide length and intensity. A finish of slightly dried cherries with wet earth, slate and stone. Chewy and fine-grained. A wine with soul and length. Give it time. Drink after 2025.

Sena Valle de Aconcagua 2018 mit 98 Parker Punkte im Wine AdvocateLuis Gutierrez am 31.08.2020:

The 2019 Seña was produced with a Bordeaux blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Malbec, 15% Carmenere and 4% Petit Verdot with the Chilean character of the high percentage of Carmenere. Most of the volume fermented in stainless steel with some 10% in concrete vats, and the final blend matured for 22 months in French oak barrels, 80% of them new, and 10% in Stockinger vats. It's 13.5% alcohol and has good acidity and freshness, coming through as medium-bodied, elegant and balanced. This is incredibly elegant, subtle and harmonious even at this early stage. It has floral aromas, notes of orange peel, a touch of creamy sweet spices and great freshness. The palate is medium-bodied, seamless and pure, with pungent flavors and a soft texture. It's long, clean, defined and super tasty. I feel this wine is getting better and better by the vintage. The grapes were picked quite early, and that helped to contain the ripeness and seems to have been a great decision. There was also an exception in the Panquehue zone where the Seña vines are, where the summer was cooler than the average, so quite different to many other regions in Chile. 100,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2021.

96+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Sena Valle de Aconcagua 2017Verkostungsnotiz von Luis Gutiérrez vom 30. August 2019:

They explained how the 2017 Seña was produced with "grapes that were handpicked in the morning and transported to the winery in 12-kilogram boxes for a careful inspection on a double sorting table. The grapes fermented in stainless steel tanks at 25 to 31 degrees Celsius (77 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit). depending on the variety and the level of extraction desired. Three pump-overs were carried out daily during fermentation to rotate the volume of the tank 0.5 to 1.5 times. Total maceration time ranged from 15 to 30 days for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot. Malbec and Carmenère and eight to 12 days for the Petit Verdot. according to the development of each block vinified. The final blend was racked to French oak barrels (67% new) and aged for 22 months. during which time malolactic fermentation and stabilization occurred naturally." They harvested early and managed to keep the same alcohol level as the 2016. This has less aromatic exuberance and is a more serious vintage with good concentration and weight. not as aerial as the 2016. They increased the amount of wine matured in larger 2.500-liter foudres instead of barrique. This is more powerful. structured and concentrated. like a drier version of the 2015. with some grainy tannins. more acidity. more austerity and less primary fruit. The tannins have some grip (the earlier harvest perhaps?) and might need a little bit of time in bottle. and the wine seems to have what it takes to develop nicely in bottle. They produced 120.000 bottles of this. It was bottled in February and March 2019. Just for the record. the varietal breakdown is 52% Cabernet Sauvignon. 15% Malbec. 15% Carmenère. 10% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot. reflecting a good year for Carmenère and Cabernet Franc.

Sena Valle de Aconcagua 2018 mit 100 Punkten bei James SucklingVerkostungsnotiz von James Suckling vom 5. April 2020:

This is a very thoughtful Seña that shows unique aromas of warm earth. mushrooms and conifer. turning to dark berries and black olives. The palate is more glamorous with ultra-fine tannins that envelop your palate. Shows power and vibrancy at the end. Toned muscles. It’s a very intellectual wine that harkens back to the 2015. Blend of 55% cabernet sauvignon. 18% malbec. 15% carmenere. 7% cabernet franc and 5% merlot.

Sena Valle de Aconcagua 2018 mit 98 Parker Punkte im Wine AdvocateLuis Gutierrez am 31.08.2020:

The 2018 Seña shows the fresher side of the Ocoa zone of the Aconcagua Valley through a Bordeaux blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon. 18% Malbec. 15% Carmenere. 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot; there are small differences. but nothing substantial. As I've seen in other wines from the very complete 2018 vintage. the grapes ripened thoroughly and achieved more flavors and nuances. and the wines are slightly higher in alcohol (14% this year versus 13.3% in 2017. but in reality it's 13.8% ). But the wine seems to have more of everything. The grapes fermented in a combination of stainless steel and concrete vats and matured in new barriques and Stockinger foudres for 22 months. a similar formula as the one used for Viñedo Chadwick. This is a very elegant vintage of Seña. a year with a slow ripening so that the grapes achieved very good ripeness and full development of aromas and flavors. making the wine nuanced and complex. with depth but also freshness and finesse—floral and expressive. The tannins are very fine. polished and elegant. and the wine is long and complex. mixing the best f 2015 and 2016. coming through as a very complete year. It's still a little young and should develop nicely in bottle; it's approachable now. but if you can hold it a little bit more. it should be even better. This has to be the finest vintage of Seña to date. Comparing it with the Chadwick from the same year. there is more freshness and a little more complexity and clout coming form the cooler zone and the palette of varieties used that give more options to achieve more nuance. 100.000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February and March 2020.
