DIe UGCB schreibt zum Chateau Lagrange:
The history of Lagrange dates back to 1796, when it was acquired by Count Jean Valère Cabarrus, Napoleon’s Finance Minister in Spain . He expanded the estate by purchasing numerous vineyards plots and remained the owner until 1825. Château Lagrange was classified a third growth in 1855. In 1983, the Suntory group, the leading Japanese wine and spirits firm, acquired Lagrange and invested heavily in a spectacular renovation. Priority was given to the vineyard, followed by refurbishing and modernising the vat room and cellars. Today, Lagrange has 120 hectares of vines. Efforts undertaken since the 1980s include plot-by-plot vineyard management and separate fermentation of grapes from each of these plots in order to fine tune the final blend. This results in a powerful, elegant wine with great ageing potential year in, year out. Château Lagrange is also one of the rare estates in the Médoc to produce a white wine: Les Arums de Lagrange. Above and beyond their focus on quality, Bruno Eynard and his team also show great respect for the environment in everything they do.

This is a very velvety-textured Lagrange with blackberry and purple-fruit character. Lavender and black-tea undertones. Full body. Long and caressing.

93-96 Punkte vom Wine Spectator für den Chateau Lagrange 2018 Saint JulienJames Mothels bewertet den Chateau Lagrange 2018 Saint Julien wie folgt:

The intense cassis and blackberry fruit is studded with graphite and licorice snap notes. Vivid from start to finish. Grippy but energetic.

93-95+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Lagrange 2018 Saint JulienLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den Chateau Lagrange 2018 Saint Julien wie folgt:

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Lagrange opens a little closed and broody, slowly revealing cedar chest, tar, pencil shavings, camphor and fragrant earth scents with a baked plums and warm cassis core plus a hint of yeast extract. Full-bodied and jam-packed with black fruits and earthy accents, it has a solid frame of firm. chunky tannins and just enough freshness, finishing on a persistent mineral note.

93-95 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Lagrange 2018 Saint JulienAntonio Galloni bewertet den Chateau Lagrange 2018 Saint Julien wie folgt:

The 2018 Lagrange is off the charts. Bold, plush and beautifully resonant in the glass, the 2018 possesses tremendous richness and textural intensity. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, espresso, mint and licorice build in a racy, sumptuous Lagrange loaded with personality. The 2018 is one of the best recent vintages I have tasted. Tasted two times.

95 Puntke vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint JulienWilliam Kelley im April 2022:

The 2019 Lagrange has turned out beautifully in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, blackberries and cassis mingled with hints of loamy soil, pencil shavings and bay leaf. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with an ample core of lively fruit, powdery tannins and succulent acids, it's suave and seamless, concluding with a long, expansive finish. The result of an extremely rigorous selection, and incorporating fully 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is the finest wine this château has produced in the modern era. Remarkably, it was released at the same price en primeur as the 2005!

94 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint JulienJames Suckling über den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint Julien:

Aromas of blackcurrants, sandalwood and rose petals. Medium-to full-bodied with linear tannins that are racy and refined, yet forceful. Fine tannins at the end. Best after 2024.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint JulienAntonio Galloni (Vinous) bewertet den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint Julien:

A deep, fleshy Saint-Julien, the 2019 Lagrange builds beautifully with time in the glass. Sweet red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, sage, mint, lavender and cinnamon are finely delineated, and yet this mid-weight Saint-Julien impresses with its super finessed personality. The 2019 is so inviting. It is an especially fine Lagrange. Tasted two times.

95 Punkte vergibt Jeb Dunnuck für den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint JulienJeb Dunnuck im April 2022:

While I don't think the 2019 Château Lagrange matches the 2018, it's not far off, with a more elegant yet still concentrated style. Beautiful crème de cassis, spicy oak, tobacco, chocolate, and new saddle leather notes all emerge on the nose, and it stays tight, compact, and focused on the palate, with plenty of firm tannins. It opens up beautifully with time in the glass but merits 4-6 years of bottle age, and it should evolve for 20-25 years or more.

95 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint JulienUnd Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint Julien:

The 2019 Lagrange, which was picked over the longest period ever, has a compelling bouquet of beautifully defined black fruit laced with cedar and light graphite notes. The palate is smooth, fresh and vibrant, with great depth, perfectly judged acidity and a brilliantly focused finish. Winemaker Mathieu Bordes has crafted the best Lagrange in recent years, a benchmark for the estate.

93 Punkte vom Wine Spectator für den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint JulienFür den Wine Spectator verköstigte James Molesworth den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint Julien:

Juicy and flush, with steeped red and black currant and plum fruit flavors, this has a generous edge from start to finish. Features notes of tobacco, singed cedar, warm earth and iron throughout, with a seductive hint of incense curling around the tail end of the finish. This has a generosity that makes it approachable, but there's no rush at all to drink this one. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2023 through 2036. 16,000 cases made, 700 cases imported.

95 Punkte vom Falstaff für den Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint JulienDer Chateau Lagrange 2019 Saint Julien am Gaumen der Falstaff-Verköstiger:

Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung.

Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 Lagrange leaps from the glass with vibrant notes of redcurrant jelly, ripe blackcurrants and minted blackberries, followed by nuances of dark chocolate, star anise and mossy tree bark. The medium-bodied palate is both super intense and super elegant, featuring exquisitely ripe, fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness to frame the bright, crunchy black and red fruits, finishing long and mineral laced.

93-94 Suckling-Punkte für den Chateau Lagrange 2020James Suckling schreibt zum Chateau Lagrange 2020 Saint Julien Folgendes:

Blackberry and currant with light graphite undertones. It’s medium-bodied with fine, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish.

93-95 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Lagrange 2020Das meint die Vinous-Mannschaft um Antonio Galloni zum Chateau Lagrange:

The 2020 Lagrange has a sensual, beautifully defined bouquet of mineral-infused black fruit, briar, touches of wild mint and crushed stone, conveying wonderful energy and precision. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, tensile and focused, delivering plenty of energy and an almost steely but persistent finish. This is a classy Lagrange from winemaker Matthieu Bordes and his team. I always feel this Saint-Julien is underrated, but it will challenge the best 2020s from the appellation.

Vom Falstaff-Magazin mit 92-94 Punkten bewertet

Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung.

Representing only 39% of the estate's production, the 2021 Lagrange is very promising indeed, mingling aromas of wild berries and blackcurrants with notions of loamy soils, pencil shavings and violets. Medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless, with fine depth at the core, powdery tannins and lively acids, it saw a cool vinification and contains a record 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, much of which was picked late, between the seventh and 12th of October. It's a brilliant effort from Matthieu Bordes and his team. Tasted five times, twice at the estate.

92-93 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Lagrange 2021 Saint JulienJames Suckling im Mai 2022:

A firm and silky red with medium body, fresh acidity and an orange-peel and berry aftertaste. Refined and bright.

Die Bewertung für den Chateau Lagrange 2021 Saint Julien vom Wine Cellar Insider lautet wie folgt. The Wine Cellar Insider (Jeff Leve) : 91-93 / 100

Blackberries, cedar, tobacco, spice and savory herbs on the nose bring you to a soft-textured, supple, round, forward, classical wine with a creamy-textured, dusty, peppery, crunchy, red currant-packed finish. The wine is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Merlot. It is interesting to note that this is the highest percentage of Cabernet used in the blend in the history of the estate. 13% ABV. Yields were low at only 30 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2025-2045.

92-94

94-96+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Lagrange 2022 Saint JulienThe 2022 Lagrange is brilliant, ranking alongside the 2020, 2019 and 2016 as one of this over-performing estate's finest recent vintages. Revealing aromas of dark cherries, cassis, violets and pencil shavings, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a deep core of fruit, beautifully refined but youthfully assertive tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish. It's a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot with a very healthy pH of 3.63.

94-95 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Lagrange 2022 Saint JulienSolid Lagrange with blueberry and blackberry character. Medium body and a tannin structure that unfolds at the finish. Very well done.

Jeb Dunnuck 91-94
The 2022 Château Lagrange is more mid-weight than I expected, yet it's nicely balanced and certainly elegant. Based on 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot pulled from just 40% of the total production, it has a pretty nose of cassis and black raspberry fruits as well as some floral and spicy nuances. Its oak is nicely integrated, it's medium to full-bodied, and it has fine tannins. The barrel review will seem low if this puts on weight over the course of its élevage.
