There is an awkward touch of oak on the nose of the 2016 Dits del Terra, not that it is excessive, but in the context of other wines, which show more and more purity, more elegance and less oak, this feels oakier than previous years. Apparently there is one foudre that still lends these notes and to be honest. I'm sure there are people who would like it better than the Arbossar (the other pure Cariñena in this same price range). There are some dusty tannins and some oak-related flavors. This is a one-off in the portfolio and my least favorite. 4.868 bottles were filled in July 2018.

Deep magenta color. Powerful red/dark berry, candied licorice and exotic spice scents are complemented by suggestions of smoky minerals. A sexy floral nuance builds with air. Alluringly sweet and energetic on the palate, offering deeply concentrated cherry, black raspberry, spicecake and cola flavors that show superb delineation and bright mineral cut. Dusty, late-arriving tannins firm an impressively long, chewy finish that features suave, spice-tinged cherry and floral notes.

The Torroja Vi de Vila has been renamed and is now the 2017 Terra de Cuques, basically because they didn't find enough grapes in Torroja for this wine. In 2017, it's still fruit from Torroja, but in the future there will be grapes from other villages. There are strong notes of licorice, red berries and Mediterranean herbs and it's aromatic, expressive, open, clean and frankly, very attractive. Like many 2017s, it doesn't show any heat or excess ripeness. The oak foudres are getting older every year and lend less and less aromas and flavors and the wines feel purer and purer. This is a super elegant blend of Garnacha and Cariñena that's really balanced and has symmetry, definition and delineation, as chiseled and precise as if laser cut. There's even some austerity on the palate, something I didn't expect from a richer vintage. 20.000 bottles produced.

Terroir Històric ermutigt junge Landwirte, nicht nur auf die Weinberge ihrer Familien in den 9 Dörfern der Region in und um Torroja zurückzukehren, sondern diese auch auf ökologischen Anbau umzustellen."
