"Grapes and pomegranate have common origins and are often found growing together in the Mediterranean basin. The pomegranate fruit also possesses the charm, beauty and intensity of grapes. It is thanks to this union that the name ‘Granato’ derives, the name of a Teroldego of a particular concentration and density that sinks its roots into the stones of the three vineyards in Campo Rotaliano." Monica Larner über den Foradori Granato IGT Vigneti delle Dolomiti 2017 (18. Feb. 2021)
The 2017 Granato is a pure expression of Teroldego with a sultry, dark color and inky concentration. Summer temperatures in 2017 were warm, but hail damaged 40% of the crop. The fact this wine was even made is a miracle. There is a lot of succulent and tart fruit here that recalls wild cherry and plum, with riper tones of black currant and blackberry that add extra richness and texture. Some stem inclusion is usually employed to make this wine, and its structure is fleshed out as a result. To summarize, this is a full-bodied vintage of Granato with little hints of the tart pomegranate fruit that grows on a tree right outside the winery door.
