The Neri family has created a classic expression of Sangiovese from a classic vintage. while remaining faithful to the house style. In a nutshell. these wines always tend to offer dark plum. clove and fig confit over the tiny berry and blue flower aromas you get from the traditionalists. That said. this Brunello needs ample time to open. and I suggest you splash it into the decanter. The Casanova di Neri 2015 Brunello di Montalcino (this is the one with the white label) stays safely within your expectation of the vintage with its variety-driven aromas of wild berry. licorice. blue flower and balsam herb. This wine sees fruit sourced from a vineyard on the northeast side of Montalcino. with Galestro soils ranging from 330 to 480 meters above sea level. Some 95.376 bottles were made. It was bottled in June 2019. and it hit the market in January 2020. You might want more from the aromatics (while you wait for the bouquet to come around). but this wine goes gangbusters in terms of mid-palate and overall texture.

There’s beauty and drinkability to this wine that really is enticing with blueberry and cherry aromas. as well as hints of hot stone and licorice. Medium to full body. integrated tannins and a fresh and polished finish. Shows focus and brightness. Very drinkable now. but better in a year or two. Try in 2021.

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino from Casanova di Neru is very pretty. showing bright cherry and strawberry tones. as red florals and dusty spices that rise up from the glass. with just a hint of forest floor. On the palate. silky textures give way to red berry fruits and sweet spices. given lift through vibrant acids. as saline-minerals and hints of fine tannin saturate the senses. It finishes long. juicy. and fresh. with savory spice and residual acids buzzing on the senses while dried red fruits and florals slowly fade. The 2015 Casanova di Neri doesn’t succeed through power; instead it’s a feminine beauty of a wine.

Castello di Ama settles on a tried-and-true formula with its 2020 Chianti Classico Ama. The trick is to present the elegant side of Sangiovese (blended in this case with a touch of Merlot) while also remaining fun, accessible and easy-drinking. The 2020 vintage brings forth a bit more heat and fruit concentration, but it also shows delicate cassis, red rose and Mediterranean aromas. The tannins are gentle and the mouthfeel is streamlined.

93 Sucklingpunkte für den Castello di Ama Chianti Classico AMA 2020James Suckling zum 2020er Jahrgang der Azienda aus Gaiole:

A fresh and composed red with blackcurrant and blueberry aromas with minerals and citrus underneath. It's medium-bodied with fine tannins and a racy, long finish. Drink or hold.

91 Punkte vom Wine Spectator für den Castello di Ama Chianti Classico AMA 2020Und schließlich Bruce Sanderson für den Wine Spectator (September 2022):

Fleshy and firm, with plum, cherry, iron and Tuscan scrub flavors. Reveals tannins, but is mouthwatering in the end. Sangiovese and Merlot. Drink now through 2027.

Benannt nach dem malerischen Tal von San Lorenzo - geprägt von Finesse, Eleganz, Intensität, Länge und Frische

95 Puntke vom Wine Advocate für den Castello di Ama Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo 2019Monica Larner im Februar 2023 zum Castello di Ama Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo 2019:

The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo draws its fruit from various sites selected throughout the estate, and for that reason, it is often the most representative wine from Castello di Ama (despite its more approachable price). This vintage is especially interesting, showing a more formal quality of tannins for longer aging potential and softly extracted dark fruit that sets it apart. Vintner Marco Pallanti likens 2019 to 2004 or 2016, some of the best vintages in recent memory. The wine is partially aged in new oak, and the percentage of new barrels used depends on the vintage conditions. This edition sees 20% new oak, medium toast and fine grains. The team is working with lower temperatures during fermentation with more numerous pump-overs for the first couple of weeks, then the wine is left alone. Fresh cherry fruit, blackberry, spice and grilled herb emerge. This is a production of 80,000 bottles.

Perfumed and beautiful with flowers, cherries and raspberries. Forest fruits, too. Full-bodied with extremely fine tannins that run the length of the wine and are wonderfully integrated, spreading across the palate. Lasts for minutes. Better after 2025, but already fantastic.

94 Punkte vom Falstaff für den Castello di Ama Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo 2019Und schließlich Othmar Kiem, Simon Staffler für den Falstaff Wine Guide Italien 2023:

Leuchtendes, schimmerndes Rubinrot.

Casanova di Neri's 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is celebrating its 20th anniversary (1993-2013), and a special gold-label edition of the wine was made to commemorate this important milestone. This is a bold and expressive Brunello that displays tightly knit aromas of Morello cherry, spice, leather and balsam herb that are the building blocks of the most beautiful Brunellos that come to mind. The Casanova di Neri house style implies a modern and sophisticated approach for sure. But the inner spirit and texture of Sangiovese is so fine and polished in its natural state that it hardly matters. The personality of the grape shines through with a loud and confident voice..

98 Sucklingpunkte für den Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2013James Suckling bewertet den Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2013 im Januar 2018 wie folgt:

A vivid and bright red with intense blueberries and raspberries. Floral undertones and tons of citrus, too! Full-bodied, dense and layered. Polished tannins and fantastic fruit. The muscularity of the structure is what gives this wine focus and intensity. So serious for the vintage. Give it time to show its greatness. Drink in 2022.

96 Punkte vom Wine Spectator für den Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2013Der Winespectator beschreibt den Tenuta Nuova 2013 wie folgt:

Sweet, ripe strawberry and cherry fruit melds seamlessly with the dense, refined structure of this red. Saline, licorice and spice accents add complexity as this lingers gracefully on the finish. Terrific harmony and expression. Best from 2021 through 2037. 5.831 cases made. — BS

98 Sucklingpunkte für den Le Macchiole Messorio 2018 Toscana MerlotJames Suckling beschreibt über den Messorio 2018 von Le Macchiole im Juli 2022:

Lots of flowers, blueberries and orange peel. The palate is really long and extended, with ultra-fine tannins that run the length of the wine. Medium to full body. Wonderful finish. Needs five to six years to open, but what a joy to taste now.

96 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Le Macchiole Messorio 2018 Toscana MerlotMonica Larner über den Messorio 2018 von Le Macchiole im Oktober 2021:

Le Macchiole's 2018 Messorio is soft and rich with impressive depth and intensity, all delivered with the softness that only the Merlot grape can manage. This important wine unfolds first to rich cherry and blackberry and then yields softly to secondary notes of spice, baker's chocolate and toasted almond. There is some youthful tightness in the mouth, with Merlot tannins that are hitched to firmness and softness, while showing impressive length all the while. The mouthfeel is most impressive, thanks to its seamless and supple nature that glides smoothly over the palate.

97 Sucklingpunkte für den Le Macchiole Messorio 2017 Toscana MerlotJames Suckling beschreibt über den Messorio 2017 von Le Macchiole im August 2020:

This wine shows beautiful clarity and class on the nose with roses, tar, currants, green and black olives and plums. It’s exceptionally fine-tannined with such polish and finesse. So sophisticated and intense for this vintage. Long, chewy finish, yet this is mouth-filling and caressing. Pure merlot. Try after 2024.

95 Puntke vom Wine Advocate für den Le Macchiole Messorio 2017 Toscana MerlotMonica Larner über den Messorio 2017 von Le Macchiole im Oktober 2020:

Messorio is a wine that beautifully reflects the characteristics of the vintage and is a very accurate measuring stick of how any single vintage will eventually perform both in terms of near-term accessibility and long-term cellar aging. That said, the Le Macchiole 2017 Messorio plays its strongest cards in terms of mouthfeel and texture, revealing a robust structure and firmly integrated tannins that come from both the richly concentrated fruit and the careful use of oak. The wine shows a heavy center of gravity and a solid base of dark fruit that is enhanced by caramel, brown sugar, spice and creamy blackberry preserves. It does offer immediate appeal, but I'd wait a few more years to give this 2017 Messorio more time to flesh out and evolve.

95 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Le Macchiole Messorio 2017 Toscana MerlotAntonio Galloni im Januar 2021:

The 2017 Messorio (100% Merlot) is classy and polished to the core. It is also incredibly young and not at all forthcoming. Messorio is a wine that needs a surprising amount of time in bottle to truly shine. I expect that will be the case here as well. Today, the 2017 is all about fruit and density. Time in the cellar should allow for its aromatics to emerge more fully. Overall, though, this is a fairly restrained style, in keeping with the showing of 2017 Bolgheri reds more broadly. All the elements come together so gracefully in this striking wine. Production is down around 20%.
