Gut gemacht, Mathieu Chadronnier. WW 17/20 2025 – 2035

93-94 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Marsau 2021 Francs-Cotes de BordeauxJames Suckling im Mai 2022:

A pure merlot with black-olive and blackberry aromas and flavors with a medium body, creamy tannins and a juicy finish. All here.

Jane Anson (Jane Anson) : 92 / 100

In theory, an organic wine from 100% Merlot should not do well in 2021, and yet this has an enticing ruby colour with violet reflections and is delicate and nuanced wtihout being austere or diluted. Defintely a success, with raspberry and blackberry fruit, and a mouthwatering finish. Unlike most of the Francs appellation, the 12ha Marsau vienyard is made up of clay-gravel soils rather than limestone, giving a different more powerful flavour profile, and after losing 80% of the crop to frost in 2018 they rethought their growing method, now going for no-till with cover crops all year. Has helped keep soil temperatures manageable in the hot years, and increased competition this year, allowed water stress to develop by the end of August - a few weeks later than normal, but still having an impact on flavour concentration. Harvest 28 September to October 6, vinified with no added sulphur, natural yeasts, 3.6ph.

Chateau Lassegue 2021 Saint Emilion Grand Cru
  Jane Anson (Jane Anson) : 93 / 100

This is very much focused on clarity of fruit, taut blueberry, richer raspberry puree, with waves of rose petals, saffran, iodine, smoked earth and bitter chocolate. Winemaker Pierre Seillan (who has just handed over to his son but is still very much a big presence) has been making wine at various locations since 1962, making this his 54th vintage, the 19th here at Lassegue. Harvest September 29 to October 14, 3.64ph. 70% new oak, no chaptilisaiton, no bleeding of the tanks for extra concentration.

93-94 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Lassegue 2021 Saint Emilion Grand CruJames Suckling im Mai 2022:

A wine with pureness and finesse, showing wonderful length and brightness. Dark berries, cherries and dried citrus. It's long and lively. Orange peel and other citrus notes at the end. Lots of minerality. (Georgina Hindle) : 93 / 100

Amazing aromatics - very fruit forward on the nose full of blackcurrant, black cherry and black pepper. The strawberry, raspberry and cranberry fruit absolutely sings in the glass, punchy with excellent clarity and soft plushness. Silky tannins, barely there except to give a mineral, wet stone texture which is to the fore. It’s profound in terms of depth of flavour - vertical and structured, but not heavy or exuberant with freshness and focus keeping it lifted and graceful. Well balanced, harmonious and full of classicism in the best sense. This is the 19th vintage for winemaker Pierre Seillan, whose son will now take the helm. No chaptalisation needed here. 3.64pH. Ageing in 70% new oak.

Chateau Haut Bages Liberal 2021
91-93 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Haut Bages Liberal 2021 PauillacWilliam Kelley im April 2022:

Containing fully 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 Haut-Bages-Libéral offers up aromas of rich berries, plums, loamy soil, licorice and spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and youthfully primary, with lively acids and powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish, I suspect it will flesh out nicely with élevage to number among the sleepers of the vintage. Tasted twice.

94-95 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Haut Bages Liberal 2021 PauillacJames Suckling im Mai 2022:

This is already open and delicious with cherry, cassis, blueberry and chocolate-orange character. Some peach notes, too. Medium to full body with velvety, ripe and plush tannins. Caressing, yet it remains firm and solid. Lovely, creamy finish. 90% cabernet sauvignon and 10% merlot. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification.

94-96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Haut Bages Liberal 2021 PauillacAntonio Galloni

Chateau Phelan Segur 2021 Saint Estephe

Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums and cherries mingled with notions of rose petals, pipe tobacco, sweet spices and loamy soil, the 2021 Phélan Ségur is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with impressive depth at the core, ripe tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, saline finish. Concentrated and well-constructed, this is a serious wine with a bright future ahead of it. It's a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Tasted five times, twice at the estate.

93-94 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Phelan Segur 2021 Saint Estephe Der Chateau Phelan Segur 2021 Saint Estephe am Gaumen von James Suckling (Mai 2022):

Plenty of cabernet character with currant and blackberry and some fresh-herb undertones. Medium body. Fine, firm tannins. Refined and together. Oyster shell and hints of spices such as cloves and white pepper. Tapenade. Typical for the appellation. 75% cabernet sauvignon, 4% petit verdot and 21% merlot.
