95 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Certan de May 2017 Pomerol James Suckling bewertet den Chateau Certan de May 2017 Pomerol im Dezember 2019:
There’s a striking sense of deeply ripe plums on the nose. as well as notes of forest wood. black truffle. wet earth and sous bois. The palate has regal tannin shape and texture. Quite powerful but supple. the tannins carry long and fresh with ripe dark-plum flavors. Try from 2022.

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denAntonio Galloni im März 2020:
The 2017 Certan de May is a powerful. dense wine. Graphite. smoke. grilled herbs and dark red and purplish fruit confer a real sense of gravitas that also comes through in the wine's unctuous fruit and overall richness. The 2017 packs a serious punch. that is for sure. Although not the last word in finesse. Certan de May offers plenty of richness and body. It is one of the bigger Pomerols of the year. I would give the 2017 a few years in bottle to allow the tannins to soften.

Medium-bodied. the palate delivers elegantly played black fruits and earthy accents with a lovely frame of fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness. finishing with a quiet intensity.

98 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den Vieux Chateau Certan 2017 PomerolPossibly the wine of the vintage
The 2017 Vieux Chateau Certan is a blend of 81% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from the highest point on the Pomerol plateau. Deep purple, with a heavenly bouquet of creme de cassis, blueberries, scorched earth, crushed violets, tobacco, and earth, this beauty is full-bodied, has incredible depth of fruit, ripe, present tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. This estate has been on fire of late, and this is undoubtedly a worthy follow-on to the otherworldly 2015 and 2016. It has the depth of fruit and texture to offer pleasure even today, yet a solid 7-8 years of cellaring are warranted, and it should be long-lived. Bravo!

Composed of 80% Merlot. 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. the 2017 Vieux Château Certan sports a deep garnet-purple color. No mincing about. the bouquet absolutely prances out of the glass with stunning scents of candied violets. chocolate-covered cherries. roses and eucalyptus over a core of black plum preserves. mulberries. black raspberries and blueberry pie plus wafts of licorice. iron ore and truffles. Medium to full-bodied. the palate has fantastic balance and expression. with very fine-grained. silt-like tannins and well-knit freshness. finishing with epic length and perfume.

98 Sucklingpunkte für den Vieux Chateau Certan 2017 Pomerol James Suckling bewertet den Vieux Chateau Certan 2017 Pomerol im Dezember 2019:
The purity and complexity is so mesmerizing for 2017. Raspberries and black fruit with sweet-tobacco and blood-orange undertones. Medium to full body. The tannins are so polished and pure and push out the edges on the wine. Fresh and pretty. Deep. Needs two or three years to perfect it. Try after 2023.

98 Punkte vom Winespectator fuer den James Molesworth bewertet den Vieux Chateau Certan 2017 in der März Ausgabe 2020 wie folgt:
This delivers a terrific rush of raspberry ganache and steeped plum fruit that holds center stage throughout. flanked by singed apple wood and dried anise notes and backed on the finish by hints of Lapsang souchong tea. warm fruitcake and mineral. A step ahead of the pack in this vintage. Merlot. Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2022 through 2040.3.666 cases made.— J.M

98 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denAntonio Galloni im März 2020:
Just as it was en primeur. the 2017 Vieux Château Certan is regal and soaring right out of the glass. Inky blue and purplish fruit. chocolate. licorice. lavender. spice and mint come together in a dense. dark and powerful Pomerol. The 2017 is an explosive. vivid wine of monastic beauty. In this vintage. VCC is especially dark and somber. which adds to a real feeling of mysterious beauty. It is a towering achievement from Alexandre and Guillaume Thienpont.
