The 2018 L'Evangile is composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The Merlot was harvested September 19 to October 2. and the Cabernet Franc was harvested September 25 to October 1. This is the optimal blend - with more Cabernet Franc coming through this year, since it was amazing. Deep garnet-purple colored, it slips seductively out of the glass with glamorous notes of baked black cherries, warm blueberries and raspberry tart plus wafts of kirsch, red roses, rose hip tea, espresso. licorice and sandalwood. Full-bodied. rich. concentrated and delivering opulent black fruit layers, the palate has a firm frame of lovely, ripe, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and fragrant. Beautiful.

The 2018 L'evangile is shaping up to be exceptional. Rich and sumptuous in the glass, the 2018 exudes richness in all of its dimensions. Opulent and dense in the glass, with soft curves and silky, polished tannins, the 2018 is hugely promising. All the elements just fall into place. Dark raspberry jam, cloves, menthol and new leather are some of the many notes that build in a sumptuous, racy evangile loaded with class and personality. I can't wait to taste it from bottle.

Specifically, the new oak needs to integrate more fully, but this is a barrel sample, and it is not uncommon to see wines at this stage showing this way. The more exotic side of the vintage is very much on display. The harvest ranged from September 29 to October 12. which is relatively drawn out by the estate's standards.

Dark red fruit. espresso. cedar and dried flowers add lovely shades of aromatic nuance as well as energy. The 2018 is beautifully rendered. The blend is 85% Merlot. 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Proprietor Silvio Denz and consulting winemake Michel Rolland turned out a gorgeous Faugeres in 2018. My only real critique is that Faugeres and the pure Peby Faugeres are more closer in style than they usually are. which is remarkable as the blends are totally different! Tasted three times.

The 2018 Valandraud is magnificent. Unctuous and super-concentrated on the palate, the 2018 possesses off the charts richness. Crème de cassis, bittersweet chocolate, hard candy, lavender, menthol, licorice, mint and dark spice all meld together. The 2018 is quite shut down at this stage, which is probably a good thing for its long term prospects. The blend is 90% Merlot. 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Malbec. This is the first time since the early 1990s that Malbec has appeared in the blend. Yields came in at 48 hectoliters per hectare, a touch above the 45 or so that is more customary here.

Cuvee: 60 Merlot / 22 Cabernet Franc / 18Cabernet Sauvignon Alkoholgehalt: 14.50 Vol.% Der Kern ist dicht und kompakt im Zentrum schwarz. Das Aroma ist verdammt vielschichtig und mit Tiefe. Fast alle dunklen Beeren die man so kennt. Blaubeere, Holunder, etwas rote Beete. Man spürt das Holz, aber es ist zum Glück nicht überladend. Im Mund ist der Wein grosszügig und einnehmend. Massen an reifen und kraftvollen Tanninen. Auch hier setzt die Frucht ein tolles Gegenstück zu Allem. Mineralisches Finish und lang, lang ... lang. In Zeiten, in denen alle den Holzeinsatz zurückfahren, steht Pavie wie der Fels in Brandung dar, wahrscheinlich der kräftigste aller Saint-Emilion Weine. Thirty-three plots contributed to this wine, out of the 43 in production. Five went into Petit Cheval and five into bulk. The 2018 Cheval Blanc is a blend of 54% Merlot. 40% Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, with a 3.75 pH and 14.5% alcohol. Deep purple-black in color, the nose is more open at the core of the wine than the Le Petit Cheval, strutting out of the glass with bold, ripe black cherries, cassis, warm plums and raspberry preserves notes.
