Intensiv und komplex, ausgewogen und weich.

Die Rahmendaten zum Bodegas Muga Reserva 2018 Rioja: Handlese, Gärung mit einheimischen Hefen in Holzbottichen. Reifung für 24 Monate in Fässern aus von uns ausgewählter Eiche. Das Holz stammt zu 80% aus französischer Eiche und zu 20% aus amerikanischer Eiche. Vor der Flaschenabfüllung wird der Wein mit frischem Eiweiß geklärt. Anschließend wird er in unserem Flaschenkeller mindestens 12 Monate lang verfeinert, bevor er zum Verkauf freigegeben wird. Und weil Muga in 2018 auf die Produktion des Aro, des Torre Muga und auch des Prado Enea verzichtete, flossen die gewöhnlich für diese Spitzenweine der Bodegas reservierten Trauben in diesem Jahr in den Reserva.

James Suckling bewertet die Muga Reserva 2018 im Februar 2022 so:

This was the only red that Muga made in 2018, and the wines from the best vineyards went into the blend. In other words, top vineyards were declassified. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are caressing and refined. Plenty of subtle berries, chocolate and walnuts. Tempranillo with garnacha, mazuelo and graciano. January 2021 release. Gran Reserva in Perfektion! Sorgfältige Auswahl von den hoch gelegenen Parzellen der Rioja Alta in den Dörfern Sajazarra, Cellorigo und Fonzaleche

Ein stilvolles Bouquet von schwarzen Früchten, die sich mit Gewürzen, Lebkuchen und Lakritze vermischen. Der weiche, geschmeidige Einstieg am Gaumen führt zu einem Gefühl von sanfter Kraft und luftig-leichtem Volumen, untermauert von kaschmirartigen, seidigen Tanninen, die von einer frischen Säure harmonisch ausgeglichen werden. Im Abgang kommen cremige Vanillenoten mit reifen Früchten zum Vorschein. Dieser Wein verlockt zum zum sofortigen Genuss, aber er wird noch viele Jahre lang gut altern.

The most classical of their wines, the 2015 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano, mostly from Rioja Alta (Sajazarra, Cellorigo and Fonzaleche), but the Garnacha is from different plots in the zone of Tudelilla at high altitude. These grapes are always picked last, but the wine has a similar alcohol level as the rest, around 14.5% in a warm year like 2019. The modus operandi is similar to other of the top cuvées—harvested into 200-kilogram boxes, destemming, optical sorting and fermentation in small oak casks with indigenous yeasts. The élevage in this case is extended to 36 months, and the barrels are only 10% new. This is, year in, year out, my favorite wine from Muga, and in this powerful and ripe year, these late-harvesting vines ripened thoroughly and delivered a full array of aromas and flavors so that the wine has plenty of depth and complexity. It has a very classical profile, with incipient tertiary notes, perfumed, floral and rich, textured and beautifully balanced. They compare this 2015 with 2009 and 2005 in terms of style but with freshness in the style of 2001 and 2010. It's enjoyable but should also develop for a long time in bottle. One of the finest Prado Enea vintages. 108,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2018. There's no 2012 or 2013 of this. There will be a 2016 and 2019, but no 2017 or 2018. 2020 is still a question mark, they have not yet decided it.

Reserved and polished, this is a Prado Enea with great class and focus. It’s so aromatic,with plum, peach, cherry and cedar character. Salted olives, too. Medium-to full-bodied with very fine tannins and a long, fresh finish. Elegance with power here. Give it three or four years to open, but already impressive.

The 2019 El Andén de la Estación is a new red that takes advantage of the Barrio de la Estación, the train station neighborhood of Haro. It's a Crianza with less extraction, looking for the elegance and finesse of the classical Rioja wines. It's a blend of Tempranillo from their younger vines and Garnacha (that they buy) that matured in French and European barrels for 14 months. It's a quaffable red with lots of Garnacha character (it might represent up to 30% of the blend, by far the highest in Garnacha from the portfolio). It's floral, juicy and expressive, very open and approachable. This is delicious and still quite complex. 186,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2021.

ALuis Gutiérrez verkostet im Juli 2022 den Reserva.Jahrgang 2019 (Oktober 2022):

The 2019 Reserva, sold as Crianza in Spain, comes from a dry and warm year with low yields and concentrated wines. The grapes from the Haro zone, the four from Rioja, Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo and Graciano fermented destemmed and lightly crushed in oak vats with indigenous yeasts, and 80% of the volume matured in French oak and the rest in Centro European and American oak, 20% of them new, for 22 months, during which time the wine was racked every eight to nine months. This is serious and young but balanced, nuanced and complex. They are shortening the time in oak, as they feel they have better and younger barrels and think the wines need less time in oak and more time in bottle. This is very Muga, very Rioja and very good. They produced an impressive 960,000 bottles and 18,000 magnums of this. There is only one master blend that is bottled at different times. I tasted a bottle that was filled in April 2022 (because of the lack of availability of bottles!).

Der Telmo Rodriguez Corriente Rioja ist für uns eine der spannendsten Entdeckungen auf dem spanischen Weinmarkt. Ein Wein der sehr gut strukturiert ist. mit ein paar Ecken und Kanten bereitet er aber eine ungemeine Trinkfreude. Aus dem Glas springen viele dunkle Früchte. Johannisbeeren. Kirschen. Schokolade. zarte Rauchnoten. etwas Gewürznelken ein Nasenbild. dass in dieser Preisklasse herausragend ist. Am Gaumen präsentiert sich der Wein mit einem Abbild des Geruches. fantastischer Nachhall. scmeckt nach deutlich mehr. Der Telmo Rodriguez Corriente Rioja besteht zu grössten Teillen aus Tempranillo und wird mit Graciano und Garnacha abgerundet.

Wet-stone minerals, blackberries, red cherries and some roasted spices on the nose, following through to a bone-dry, medium-to-full-bodied palate, with an even distribution of firm and fine-grained tannins. Drink or hold.

I love the 2018 Corriente, the entry-level in Rioja (even if they made me taste it after Las Beatas!). It's from a year with lots of rain (600 liters) that created some fungal challenges and a late harvest that started on the 8th of October and went on until the 1st of November! It was produced with grapes from different altitudes and soils around Lanciego and fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats. It matured in barriques and foudres for close to a year. It has a very expressive nose with great purity and definition, marking the character of what the 2018s from the single vineyards are going to be like. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2020.

Bodegas Muga Blanco 2022 Rioja

Hervorragend zu gegrilltem Fisch, Meeresfrüchten, Reisgerichten ... - oder als Aperitif auf der Terrasse

Von Hand geerntet. Nach einer leichten Mazeration des Mostes mit den Schalen in der Presse erfolgt die Gärung in Holzfässern unterschiedlicher Größe und in neuen Fässern aus französischer Eiche mit sehr leicht getoastetem Holz aus der Region Nevers. Nach Abschluss der alkoholischen Gärung verbleibt der Wein 4 Monate lang in den Fässern, wobei er in den ersten Monaten zweimal wöchentlich und im letzten Monat einmal täglich aufgerührt wird, um den feinen Hefesatz in Kontakt mit dem Wein zu halten, ihn vor Sauerstoff zu schützen und ihm ein weicheres Mundgefühl und mehr Komplexität zu verleihen.

Der Jahrgang 2022 von Muga Blanco hat eine schöne strohgelbe Farbe. In der Nase entpuppt er sich als komplexer Wein mit Noten von Zitrusfrüchten wie Zitrone und Zitronenkuchen, blumigen Aromen (weiße Blüten) und Steinobst (Pfirsich) und sogar Anklängen von Vanille. Am Gaumen zeichnet er sich durch einen ausgewogenen Säuregehalt aus. Es handelt sich um einen kräftigen Wein, bei dem sich die Noten von Blumen, Zitrusfrüchten und Steinobst in einem sehr langen Abgang wiederfinden.

Zur 2021er Ausgabe schrieb James Suckling: "Sehr frisch mit Aromen von Zitronenabrieb, weißer Grapefruit, zerstoßenen Muscheln und Schiefer. Etwas Biskuit und gesalzene gelbe Pflaumen. Mittelkräftig mit schöner Mineralität und Frische. Lebendiger Abgang." Score: 92.

Wild herbs and tangy white-pepper notes on top of the fresh-toned red and black cherries, plums and hints of citrus zest, sweet red berries and minerals. Polished, dusty tannins spread evenly across the medium-bodied palate, with juicy, vivid plums and berries. Nothing showy here, but it’s beautifully balanced and understated, showing real fruit vibrancy and harmony. Drinkable now, but will hold well, too.

The Rioja red 2018 Lanzaga comes from a very wet year with more than 600 liters of rain, but it had a dry October, which helped to fight mildew. They harvested between the 8th of October and 1st of November. It's a blend from their 15 to 20 hectares of organically farmed vines, all head-pruned on slopes rich in clay and limestone, mixing red and white soils, some places with more sandstone, others with more marl, looking for complexity. It fermented in 6,000-liter concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in 1,500- and 2,500-liter oak foudres and 225-liter barrels for 14 months. It's floral and expressive, subtle and cold. This could very well be the best value in the portfolio. The wine has gobsmacking subtleness and elegance combined with power, definition and precision. Superb! 24,568 bottles produced. Eine kleine Rioja-Ikone

Dieser Selección Especial 2018 hat eine schwarzkirschrote Farbe und eine tiefe Robe. In der Nase ist er komplex, mit Aromen von dunklen Früchten, Anklängen an Zedernholz und Heidekraut, gefolgt von würzigen Aromen wie Pfeffer. Der Auftakt ist elegant und harmonisch, mit Noten von reifen roten Früchten und Gewürzen. Er hat eine fantastische, gut eingebundene Säure, die ihn lang und anhaltend am Gaumen erscheinen lässt. Es handelt sich um einen kräftigen Reserva-Wein mit großem Lagerpotenzial.

Louis Gutiérrez zum Seleccion Especial 2018 im Juli 2022:

2018 was a cooler vintage, with a fairly long maturation, which made the wines somewhat fresher and less alcoholic, as showcased by the 2018 Selección Especial, a classical blend of the four red varieties from Rioja, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano with contained ripeness (14.05% alcohol) and good freshness. It fermented in oak casks with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak barrels, 40% of them new, for 26 months. They were not very happy with the vintage and had to sort and discard, but as they didn't produce Prado Enea, Torre Muga or Haro, those grapes went into this wine. They are reluctant about 2018, but I think it was a vintage capable of the best and the worst, and this 2018 is floral, expressive and elegant. It's medium to full- bodied, with very fine, chalky tannins, combining power and elegance. Amazing! 187,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2021.

Der Sette Ponti Crognolo seit vielen Jahren eine unglaubliche Sensation in der Toskana. Er steht mit einem dunklen satten Kern im Glas obwohl er in den letzten Jahren immer mehr Sangioves enthällt in der Cuvee. Für den Crognolo werden 90% Sangiovese und mehr verwendet und etwas Merlot vermählt. Waren es noch vor Jahren deutlich höhere Anteile von Cabernet und Merlot in der Blend für den Crognolo, setzt man heute bei Sette Ponti immer mehr auf Eigenständigkeit der Rebsorten. Mittelfristig wird der Crognolo von Sette Ponti dann wohl aus 100% Sangiovese bestehen. Bis dahin geniessen wir aber den famosen 2019er Crogonolo und freuen uns gemeinsam mit Ihnen, dass die Toskana noch immer solche Weine um die 20€ hervorbringt.

Sweet berries, flowers and cedar on the nose. Some leather, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with lightly chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Shows tension and brightness. Excellent structure. Drinkable now, but better in 2023.

Othmar Kiem und Simon Staffler notieren anlässlich des Toscana Centrale 2022 Tastings (18.02.2022):

Dunkelleuchtendes Rubinrot. In der Nase Anklänge von eingelegten Kirschen, zarte Pfefferwürze, im Nachhall nach Waldbeeren, zeigt feine Nuancen von mediterranen Kräutern und Minze. Am Gaumen mit feiner Saftigkeit und kerniger Frucht, zeigt sich lebendig, sanfter Nachdruck im Finale.

Keine Frage, dass es für den erfolgreichen Geschäftsmann. Dr. Antonio Moretti. mit der Übernahme des Weinguts seines Vaters in der Toskana nur ein „Ganz oder Gar nicht“ gab. Ein internationales Expertenteam sollte die wunderschöne Tenuta auf höchstes Niveau bringen. Wobei die Qualität immer an erster Stelle stand – ohne Rücksicht auf Kosten und alte Gepflogenheiten. Die Bemühungen haben sich mehr als gelohnt. Tenuta Sette Ponti erhält heute weltweit beste Auszeichnungen. Vor allem die beiden im Barrique ausgebauten Weine begeistern mit ihrem Volumen und ihrer Finesse: Der Sangiovese dominierte Crognolo verströmt einen reichhaltigen und charmanten Duft von dunklen Beeren und hat einen intensiven Nachklang. Und Oreno? Dieser herrliche Wein gehört mit seinem tiefen Bouquet, der kompakten Struktur aus würzigen Aromen, dem komplexen Geschmack und nicht zuletzt dem langen Finale völlig zu Recht zu den allerersten Rotweingewächsen in der Toskana!

Chateau de Haute Serre Malbec Grand Vin Seigneur 2018

Schöne dunkle Farbe mit violetten Reflexen, die Nase ist fein, geprägt von reifen Früchten, schwarzbeerig. Der Holzeinsatz ist sehr gut integriert und wirkt stützend. Die Tannine sind saftig und zugänglich der Chateau de Haute-Serre besitzt feine Finesse und Harmonie. Er wird mit etwas Flaschenreife gut zulegen und ohne Probleme die nächsten 6-8 Jahre Trinkfreude bereiten.

Black cherries and blueberries mark the nose, picking up hints of garrigue and black olives along the way. Medium to full-bodied, plush and expansive, it turns almost velvety on the finish. It's another terrific bargain from Barruol.

The 2019 Pindefleurs is what you might call a "useful" Saint-Émilion. It has a well-defined, expressive nose of vivacious red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, full of joie-de-vivre. The palate is medium-bodied and quite sweet, with fleshy ripe tannins and flavors of raspberry, black currant and white pepper. The slightly spicy finish demonstrates admirable structure.

Wine & Soul Manoella tinto Douro 2019

Die Weinlese für den Wine & Soul Manoella tinto Douro 2019 fand ab dem 20. September bei perfekten Wetterbedingungen statt. Die selektierten und entrappten Trauben wurden 12 Stunden lang in den für Portugal so typischen Lagares mit den Füßen getreten und anschließend 8 Tage lang in Edelstahltanks vergoren. Die Reifung erfolgte 16 Monate lang in gebrauchten französischen Eichenfässern. Und so entstand ein Tropfen mit violetter Farbe und erfrischenden Noten von hellen Kirschen, Himbeeren, auch dunkler Pflaume und einheimischen Kräutern.

The 2019 Tinto Quinta da Manoella, sourced from 35+-year-old vines, is mostly a 60/25 blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, with Tinta Roriz and Tinta Francisca filling out the blend. It was aged for 16 months in used French oak and comes in at 14% alcohol. The lesser wine, as compared to its big brother, the Vinhas Velhas this issue, this still performs well. Its real competition in the red lineup is the Pintas Character this issue, which has a similar relationship with the Pintas.
Like the difference between Pintas and the Manoella Vinhas Velhas, the Character has more depth and fruitiness while the Manoella Tinto has more focus and elegance. The bigger surprise is the fine structure here. This is simply gripping on opening, reveling in its power. As with all the wines (and typical of the winery's style), the tannins are not too hard, and this does not finish with astringency. The power is still obvious. A hypothetical cross of this and the Character would be the best result, but if forced to choose, I'd take the Character, at least today. If this regular Tinto has a flaw, it is not nearly as expressive as it should be, an area where Character excels. For today, Character is the unquestioned winner, but this backward Manoella may well win in the end. Its structure is exceptional and it has plenty of room to improve. One thing that is not in question, however, is what the better value is, given that Character is around double the price of this. This is a terrific bargain for the money, the best intersection of quality and price in the lineup this vintage. This has some things to prove in the cellar, but if it gets no better, you will have gotten your money's worth and then some.

Villa Cerna Primocolle Chianti Classico DOCG 2019

Grandioses Chinati Classico Schnäppchen

Der Primcolle Chianti Classico 2019 wurde größtenteils aus Sangiovese gekeltert und mit der autochthonen Rebsorten Colorino verfeinert. Nach der schonenden Gärung und einer Reifezeit von 9 Monaten im Eichenfass und weiteren 3 Monaten auf der Flasche wird der Wein von der Villa Cerna freigegeben. Die sorgsame Vinifizierung merkt man dem Wein insbesondere anhand seiner markanten Aromen an. Dunkle, reife Kirschen treffen hier auf intensiv blumige Töne, die u.a. an Veilchen erinnern. Bruce Sanderson spricht für den Wine Spectator von "Eukalyptus, Salbei und Menthol sowie Aromen von Kirsche und Lakritze."
Dank des wohlbemessenen Fassausbaus erkennt man zudem edle Kakaonoten. Am Gaumen zeigt sich das Tanningerüst sehr feinkörnig und gut in die Gesamtstruktur integriert. "Schlank und ausgewogen im Mund mit seidigen Tanninen, präsentiert sich der Wein mit einer vibrierenden Frische und einem langen, saftigen Abgang," so sieht es Jens Priewe im Weinkenner. Und mit etwas Zeit im Glas und zum Abgang hin wandelt sich die schöne, saftige Frucht hin zu Himbeeren und Likörkirschen.

In jedem Fall haben Sie hier einen Wein für viele Gelegenheiten. Ob als Solist zum Zurüklehnen und Entspannen oder als Speisenbegleiter mit Freunden - z.B. zu gegrilltem oder geröstetem rotem Fleisch. Wurstwaren oder Käse.

Um so mehr haben wir uns über diese neue Entdeckung mit einem grandiosen Preis-Genussverhältnis gefreut. Der Primocolle 2019 steht satt und rubinrot im Glas, verführt mit toskanischer Frische. Ebend diese süsslich saftigen Kirschen in der Nase und seine klassisch würzigen Nuancen, die an Thymian und Rosmarin erinnern. Im Mund auskleidend und saftig voll, tolles reifes Tannin, balancierte Säure und ein satter Nachklang. Einfach ein riesen Weinwert in der Toskana. BRAVO!
