This wine boasts a very etched and linear quality that defines both the bouquet and the mouthfeel. The Conterno Fantino 2017 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda starts in little clicks with wild berry, cassis, dark plum, spice and tar. Those intervals add up quickly to form a greater sense of length and endurance that this wine, made with fruit from silty soils mixed with sand and clay, delivers in both the good years and the more difficult ones alike. I noted an exotic floral component in the 2016 vintage; however, this 2017 edition is far more rooted in dark primary fruit. Light touches of smoke and spice give lift to the finish. This was a release of exactly 6.576 bottles.

I always love the purity of aromas delivered in wine from this 1.8-hectare site with loose, well-draining soils in the celebrated Ginestra cru of Monforte d'Alba. The Conterno Fantino 2017 Barolo Ginestra Vigna del Gris boasts a slightly more delicate and finessed aromatic approach with tighter weaving and an almost fragile personality. However, the warm 2017 vintage conditions do their part to build up the concentrated power and fruit weight of this Barolo. I found this wine to be more reticent in terms of mouthfeel; however, that may be a reflection of my early tasting. I'd love to come back and visit this wine at the 10-year mark and later. This was a release of exactly 9.082 bottles.

This is a pleasurable and easy-drinking wine that shows a mid-weight approach with plenty of bitter almond, tar and pressed violets that appear as background shadings. Fresh acidity makes this a great choice to pair with a creamy beef stroganoff or something similar. Production is 31.350 bottles.

Der Conterno Fantino 2016 Ginestrino Langhe Nebbiolo ist in allen Belangen ein Preis/Genuss-Wunder! Die im Piemont am Fluss Langhe gediehenen Nebbiolotrauben für diesen Wein bringen im 2019er-Jahrgang die Kraft eines Barolo mit der gewünschten Finesse, Frische und Rasse, die man von einem "kleinen" Nebbiolo erwartet. The organic 2022 Dolcetto d'Alba Bricco Bastia is packed tight with sweet blackberry and blackcurrant. The wine is dense and rich with bitter almond and blue flower at the back. You get a lot of varietal character in this easy wine. This is an 18,000-bottle release.

Conterno Fantino hat sich in vergleichsweise wenigen Jahren zu einer echten Weinikone im Piemont entwickelt. Als Vertreter des modernen Barolo-Stils sorgen sie dafür, dass die aristokratische und manchmal auch unnahbare Rebsorte Nebbiolo zu einem Genussbild kommt. dass Zugänglichkeit und Anspruch gleichmaßen in sich vereint. Nichts anderes kann man auch von den Barbera-Weinen bei dem sympathischen Winzerteam sagen. Die Rebflächen befinden sich in bester Lage in Monforte. Es wird bewusst auf eine lange Reifezeit geachtet. Auf Kosten der Erträge aber umso mehr zugunsten der Qualität. Gemeinsam mit der Reife im Eichenholzfass vinifizieren sie hier einen herrlich genussvollen Barbera. Einen, den man unbedingt erlebt haben muss!

Quite robust and powerful on first nose, the 2019 Barolo Ginestra Vigna del Gris needs more time in bottle to flesh out and move past this current youthful phase. This wine is definitely poised to give more to those who wait. It opens to a dark garnet hue and ripe aromas of cherry skin, plum, rose and orange peel. Within the span of a few minutes, it starts to show additional spice and nutmeg. The tannins are still grippy in this 9,100-bottle release.

The Conterno Fantino 2019 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda is medium dark and more concentrated compared to many of its peers. This wine shows a solid bouquet with fixed aromas of wild cherry, long-stemmed rose and candied orange. With time, even more floral aromas are coaxed forward from the bouquet. Beyond those are oak-driven notes of allspice and cinnamon. The tannins are polished, and the wine offers quite a bit of fruit texture. Production is 6,600 bottles.

Fratelli Revello 2020 Barolo DOCG

Die Revello Baroli sind unserer Meinung nach einmalig in Sachen Preis Genuss. Das Weingut bewegt sich in der Stilistik zwischen Moderne und Klassik, diesen Spagat bekommt es jedoch perfekt hin. Die Weine werden über 4 Tage mit Schalenkontakt eingemaischt. Die alkoholische Gärung findet dann über 10 Tage im Edelstahltank statt, die anschliessenden malolaktische Veredelung dann in französischen Fässern. Der Ausbau während der 24 Monate erfolgt zu 20% in neuem Holz und 80% gebrauchte Fässer. Für den Barolo von Revello wird die Füllung im Juli vor dem Jahr der Freigabe auf die Flasche vorgenommen. In den Verkauf kommt der Revello Barolo dann im März des vierten Jahres auf die Lese folgend.
