Der Jahrgang 2002 wurde vom Wine Spectator als \u201eWein des Jahres\u201c ausgezeichnet, und mit den Jahrg\u00e4ngen 1991, 1997, 2002 und 2007 gab es bereits mehrfach 100 Punkte von Robert Parker f\u00fcr den Joseph Phelps Insignia. „Die Geschichte von Insignia spiegelt den Charakter meines Gro\u00dfvaters wider.“ Dieses Zitat von Joseph Phelps Enkelin Elizabeth Neuman verweist auf den unbedingten Qualit\u00e4tswillen, der dem Joseph Phelps Insignia zugrundeliegt.

So war es von 1974 an das Credo des Winzers, einen Wein mit den maximal m\u00f6glichen Ergebnissen zu kreieren. Da er wusste, dass ihn die Natur mit ihren klimatischen Bedingungen jedes Jahr aufs Neue fordern w\u00fcrde, beschloss er anfangs sogar, sich offen zu halten ob der Insignia im jeweiligen Jahr ein Rotwein oder Wei\u00dfwein werden sollte. Schnell stellte sich jedoch heraus, dass insbesondere der Cabernet Sauvignon in den dortigen Weinbergslagen zu au\u00dferordentlicher G\u00fcte, Kraft und Komplexit\u00e4t heranreift. <\/span>Ab 1977 machte Cabernet Sauvignon dann schon mindestens 50% der Insignia-Mischung aus und entwickelte sich zunehmend zur dominierenden Rebsorte dieses Topweines.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Joseph Phelps Insignia – Der Jahrgang 2016<\/h3>\n

In der Vegetationsperiode folgte 2016 auf einen milden Winter eine stabile Bl\u00fcte- und Veraisonperiode. Im Vergleich mit den drei vorherigen Jahrg\u00e4ngen gestaltete sich das Klima bis zur Lese dann etwas k\u00fchler. Dadurch konnten sich die Aromen und Gerbstoffe langsam entwickeln und hatten genug Zeit, zur Vollreife zu gelangen.<\/p>\n

In 2016 besteht der Insignia aus 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec und 3% Cabernet Franc. Das Lesegut kommt aus den Lagen 29% Las Rocas Vineyard (Stags Leap), 23% Suscol Vineyard (S\u00fcd-Napa), 20% Yountville Vineyard (Oak Knoll), 18% Barboza Vineyard (Stags Leap) und 10% Home Ranch Vineyard (St. Helena). Der Wein erhielt eine Reifezeit \u00fcber 24 Monate in 100% neuer franz\u00f6sischer Eiche.<\/p>\n

Der Winemaker zum 2016 Insignia: Er ist frisch und entfaltet zu Beginn ausdrucksstarke Aromen von Kakaopulver, Graphit und erdigen Gew\u00fcrzen. Am Gaumen ist er so elegant wie komplex, mit einer cremigen Textur und kraftvollen Tanninen. All das wird umwoben von \u00fcppigen, reifen Pflaumen- und Brombeernoten. Nach und nach entwickeln sich auch Nuancen ger\u00f6steten Kaffees und von dunkler Kirsche. Der Nachhall ist enorm lange und klingt samtig aus.<\/p>\n
