Pessac Leognan / Graves

Chateau Le Sartre 2014 Pessac Leognan rouge
88-90 Parker Punkte
Neal Martin April 2015 Fassprobe:
The Château Le Sartre 2014 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. It has a slightly conservative nose, nicely focused with tertiary black fruit and smoky tincture. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, satisfactory red and black fruit with a touch of graphite on the anachronistic but refined finish. You could describe this Graves as a bit old-fashioned, but it comes across as an honest and satisfying wine in the making.

Rich — almost jammy — with cassis and some chocolate and smoke that make this quite a lavish wine. The balance of ripe fruit and supple dry tannins on the palate is really satisfying though. Lovely finish. Stylish.

Chateau de Fieuzal 2012 rouge Pessac Leognan
88-91 Parker Punkte

Robert M. Parker Jr. April 2013
Sweet black currant, lead pencil shavings, charcoal and camphor aromas are followed by a medium-bodied, front end-loaded, dark ruby/purple-colored wine with attractive fruit, medium body, sweet tannin and a surprisingly well-balanced, long finish. This potentially outstanding wine is another example of how successful Pessac-Leognan was in 2012. Drink it over the next 12-15 years.

Chateau Carbonnieux 2010 rouge Pessac Leognan
90 Parker Punkte
Robert M. Parker Jr. - Februar 2013

Extremely soft, up-front, classic Pessac-Leognan, the 2010 Carbonnieux possesses plenty of unsmoked cigar tobacco, roasted herbs, lavender, sweet kirsch and black currant fruit and sweet tannin. Seductive, lush and sensual, it is rather Burgundian in its elegant, savory, evolved style. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.

Chateau Haut Bergey 2014 Pessac Leognan
89-90 Punkte James Suckling
A solid core of fruit to this wine with blueberry, dark chocolate and mineral character. Full body with firm tannins and a fresh finish.

89-91 Parker Punkte
Neal Martin April 2015:
The Château Haut-Bergey 2014 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot (though is pinch of Petit Verdot according Hélène Garçin-Léveque) raised in 30% new oak. It has a lot of ripeness on the nose, quite “full-on” in style and showing just a little sur-maturité. The palate is better, reining the opulence of the aromatics in with quite dense blackberry and raspberry fruit with commendable delineation on the finish. It just needs to contain that over-enthusiasm on the nose.

Chateau de Chantegrive 2014 rouge Graves
89-90 Punkte James Suckling
A red with a very pretty core of fruit and firm tannins. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish.

86-88 Parker Punkte
Neal Martin April 2015:
The Château de Chantegrive (Rouge) 2014 has a forward nose with baked red cherries and light kirsch-like scents that are nicely defined. You could imagine this being very punter-friendly. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin. There is good depth here, sappy in the mouth with a brisk finish that might lack length, but I feel with expand during its élevage. Fine.

92 Punkte Winespectator

Very solid, with a core of gently steeped black currant and plum fruit
that shows ample depth, while notes of bay, loam and bramble run underneath.
A loamy edge echoes longest, thanks to well-embedded acidity.
Best from 2019 through 2028. 6,500 cases made.—J.M. January 19, 2017

Quite a savory wine in which the cassis and cranberry fruit rather sit in the background, but the tannins are moderate in this context, and that makes the wine very approachable. Better in two years but already delicious.

Neal Martin März 2017:
The 2014 Brown, now in bottle, is building on the promise it showed in barrel. It has a ripe and generous bouquet with upfront cedar-infused black fruit. This property is always a little feisty in its youth and this 2014 is no different, though it needs 3-4 years to fully assimilate the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, delicious black fruit laced with tobacco and spices, gently fanning out towards the finish that offers commendable substance and length. A Pessac-Léognan property that I feel is undervalued in the marketplace, this 2014 Château Brown comes recommended and should drink well for 15-20 years.

Currant and flower aromas galore. Very aromatic. Full-bodied yet tight and dense on the palate. A solid core of fruit and savory acidity. Very long and pretty. Drink in 2021.

Rene Gabriel 2015:

45 % Merlot, 31 % Cabernet Franc, 24 % Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chateau La Mission Haut Brion 2014 rouge Pessac Leognan

96 Punkte James Suckling
James Suckling bewertet den Chateau La Mission Haut Brion 2014 rouge im Februar 2017 wie folgt:
13.02.2017

The typicity of La Mission is really here. Aromas of iodine, oyster shell, currants and orange peel are evident. Full-bodied, tight and tannic with a muscular and toned texture that holds the wine down at the moment, but it’s waiting to release its joy and true nature. Fine-grained. Give it until 2023.

95 Parker Punkte
Neal Martin bewertet den Chateau La Mission Haut Brion 2014 rouge im März 2017 wie folgt:
The 2014 La Mission Haut Brion is a blend of 54% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, picked between 15 September and 8 October and raised in 55% new oak. It has retained that engagingly fresh and vibrant bouquet, the bashful nature that it showed in barrel replaced by a more outgoing personality. This is an exquisite bouquet with pure black fruit, cold stone, a touch of black olive and later a suggestion of boysenberry preserve. The palate is still structured and considering that a majority is Merlot, quite masculine. There remains some new oak to be fully assimilated, although there is clearly the fruit to soak that up. It comes more alive on the second half with a lovely spiciness and impressive persistence. It will have more to give down the line and the strictness implies that this La Mission Haut Brion should be afforded a decade in the cellar before it will show what it can do.

Chateau Pape Clement 2014 rouge Pessac Leognan

Intense blackberry and blueberry aromas as well as mushroom undertones. Violets, too. Sweet tobacco. Full-bodied and layered with polished tannins. Very long and beautiful. Give it two or three years to show what it has but already a beauty.

Neal Martin bewertet den Chaeau Pape Clement 2014 aus Pessac Leognan im März 2017 wie folgt:

The 2014 Pape Clement has quite a potent bouquet with lavish red cherry, kirsch, iodine and pastille-like scents, the oak probably needing another couple of years to fully integrate. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, quite refined and focused with appreciable tension towards the finish that comes laden with succulent, tobacco-infused blackberry fruit. This is a sumptuous and yet refined Pape-Clement that demonstrated the most matière or substance out of all the Pessac-Léognan 2014s that I tasted, except for the Haut-Brion. It is certainly a wine destined for a long future.

Clos Floridene rouge 2015 Graves

90-92 Parker Punkten

The 2015 Clos Floridene offers up luscious redcurrant, wild strawberry and floral scents on the nose, almost Burgundy-like in terms of purity. The palate is well balanced with fine but firm tannin, a little pinched at the moment, but by the time of bottling it will have undone its top-shirt button. Plenty of energy here, a Graves with a nod to Volnay, bound to offer 8-10 years of pleasure.

20 / 20 Punkte
Rene Gabriel beschreibt den Chateau Pape Clement 2015 wie folgt:
50 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 47 % Merlot, 2 % Petit Verdot, 1 % Cabernet Franc.

97-98 Punkte

Shows amazing depth of fruit with fabulous polish and length. Electric acidity. Full body, very integrated and refined tannins. Phenolic finesse shows here.  Great finish. It lasts for minutes. Best young Pape Clément I have tasted. Grows in the glass.

95 - 97 Parker Punkte

Neal Martin beschreibt den Chateau Pape Clement 2015 im April 2016:
The 2015 Pape Clement is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. It was cropped at 40 hl/ha between 25 September and 15 October with berry by berry destemming. It has a drop-dead gorgeous bouquet that continues the ever greater finesse that has been imparted into this Pape-Clément in recent years. It is extremely precise, almost crystalline. The palate is underpinned by fine tannin, pitch-perfect acidity, a sense of cohesion and harmony that is outstanding. There is not a hair out of place on this barrel sample and it will doubtless evolve into one of the best wines this state has produced since the 14th century, when Bertrand de Goth was planting its first vines. This comes highly recommended - a Pape-Clément that will reward those who can resist temptation and cellar this wine for 10+ years. Tasted on four separate occasions.

A firm and silky second wine with blueberry and blackberry aromas and flavors.. Full body, bright and fresh. Fine tannins.

87-89 Parker Punkte
Neal Martin bewertet den Clementin de Pape Clement 2015 im April 2016

The 2015 Le Clementine du Pape Clement is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon cropped at 40 hectoliters per hectare, picked between September 25 and October 15, with malolactic completed in barrel where it will age for 16 months. It has a fragrant blackberry, bilberry and balsamic-tinged bouquet that seems approachable. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm grip in the mouth, tensile tannin, a little static at the moment, and just needing a touch more harmony and "flow" towards the finish. I strongly suspect that this will come good by the time of bottling, after this sultry showing.
