Sattes Purpur-Granat.

Dense but fresh, with a saturated core of blackberry pâte de fruit, anise and plum sauce that races along with vibrant spice and graphite notes. The long finish shows cut and drive, with enough grip to cellar short term. Best from 2014 through 2019. 18,000 cases made. –JM

Chateau Sociando Mallet 2010 Haut Medoc
91+ Parker Punkte
Robert Parker März 2013:
A very classic wine for patient connoisseurs, Sociando Mallet makes no compromises and continues to produce one of the finest wines among non-classified estates in Haut-Medoc. Dense purple to the rim, the opaque purple-colored 2010 offers up notes of graphite, blueberry and black raspberry fruit, a hint of cassis, some licorice and wet rocks. Deep, full-bodied and almost excruciatingly tannic, this full-throttle, balls-to-the-wall style of wine needs at least 8-10 years of cellaring and should keep for three decades or more.

28. Februar 2013 Rober M. Parker Jr.
This is consistently one of the most seductive wines made in Bordeaux and it sells for well under $25 a bottle. The 2010 is an excellent wine with classic tobacco leaf, black currant and black cherry notes intermixed with loamy soil and forest floor as well as hints of licorice. With supple texture and a plush, opulent finish, this is a beauty to drink over the next decade.

Robert Parker April 2015
Once again proprietor Jean Gautreau has hit pay dirt with a beautiful blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Wonderfully sweet, ripe tannins seem to be a rule of thumb from this great terroir just to the north of St.-Estèphe’s Château Montrose. A beautiful deep ruby/purple color, decent acidity, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and stunning fruit put this wine right in the midst of the best classified crus from the Médoc, yet it has never been classified. Go figure. Softer than I would have suspected (and I’ve been following and buying this wine since the mid-1970s), this wine will still age beautifully for 10-15+ years.

17/20 Weinwisser

Chateau Bibian 2010 Haut Medoc Cru Bourgeois Magnum

The 2014 La Vieille Cure felt very backward on the nose, broody and masculine, and lacking the fruit of say the 2014 La Dauphine that I tasted alongside. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin. It feels dense and masculine, a little gritty in the mouth with the oak not sewn into the fabric of the wine as well as it should. There are better Fronsac wines out there this vintage, but it is the kind of Fronsac you would happily pop open during the week.

The 2014 Citran has an attractive bouquet with hints of espresso complementing the black fruit. I appreciate the energy here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, good weight in the mouth and well judged acidity lending tension from start to finish. Citran can often make very attractive Bordeaux, and their 2014 is one of them. Nothing spectacular, just good trustworthy Claret. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

The smoky redcurrant nose here leads into a surprisingly concentrated, supple, mid-weight palate with moderately dry tannins and nice harmony. Why wait?

90 Parker Punkte
Neal Martin 28 Oktober 2016:
The 2014 Senejac has a withdrawn but well defined bouquet with more undergrowth aromas than many of its peers, unreservedly classic in style (and there is nothing wrong with that). The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe blackberry and boysenberry on the entry, a slight tinniness on the back palate with a very tightly wound finish. This clearly needs 4-5 years in bottle but it has the matière to repay those with patience. Tasted September 2016.

The Château Sénéjac 2014 has a fresh, lively bouquet, those energetic blackberry and boysenberry fruit leaping from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and tones it down a little. The 2014 Peyrabon has a ripe blueberry and creme de cassis-scented bouquet that has a touch of volatility. The palate is sweet and lush on the entry with plenty of black cherry and blueberry fruit, belying what feels like a firm structure underneath and renders the finish drier and more classic than expected. There is a lot going on here and I suspect it will age with style. Tasted September 2016.

Neal Martin April 2015 Fassprobe:
The Château Peyrabon 2014 offers a broody, dark berry and tea-leaf bouquet that feels a little rustic vis-a-vis its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh, cedar-tinged entry. Chateau Sociando Mallet 2014 Haut Medoc
The 2014 Charmail has a well-defined, quite minerally bouquet with blackberry and briary aromas, one of the more precise Haut-Médoc 2014s that I have tasted. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, fine definition and superb backbone. This is vivacious, focused and delivers great typicité -- all in all a great contribution to the vintage from this estate. Excellent! Tasted September 2016.

Neal Martin April 2015 Fassprobe:
The Château Charmail 2014 is a blend of 38% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Cabernet Franc with 11% Petit Verdot cropped at 40 hectoliters per hectare from vines located across the road from Sociando-Mallet. It is matured in 25% new oak barrels. This has plenty of strapping black fruit on the nose that is clean and pure. The palate is smooth and rounded, supple in the mouth with good acidity on the refined, generous finish. 89 / 100 Parker Punkte
Neal Martin bewertet den Chateau Belgrave 2014 im März 2017:
The 2014 Belgrave, which has been owned by Dourthe since 1979, has a backward, cedar and woodland-scented bouquet with hints of cold stone percolating through the black fruit with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well integrated oak and a sense of harmony and composure towards the finish that just needs to lose a little nascent hardness. This is a well-made Belgrave to enjoy over the next decade.

James Suckling bewertet den Chateau Belgrave 2016 im Februar 2017:
Black fruit but also some chocolate and spices on the nose. This is quite a rich and fleshy wine that’s built on a bigger scale than most of the wines of this appellation. The finish is simultaneously rich and dry. Drink in 2019.

Rene Gabriel bewertet den Chateau Belgrave 2014 im April 2015:
66 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 32 % Merlot, 2 % Petit Verdot.
