Victoria

Weinregion Victoria:
Beide Trauben bringen schwere, gehaltvolle Weine hervor.

Stonier Chardonnay 2015

2015er ist jetzt auf Lager

für den JG 2015:
94/100 punkte
Whole bunch-pressed, 80% barrel-fermented (10% new oak), 20% fermented and matured in tank, 40% mlf, all held on gross lees for 9 months, 79 dozen made. In typical precisely crafted Stonier style, not a hair out of place. It would be fatuous to question whether that is the style best suited, or whether it would be better with a wine-blown hair or two.

Ausbau:
80% Französische Eiche / 8 Monate wovon 10% neue Belegung sind.
20% werden im Stahltank ausgebaut.

Hoddles Creek Estate Pinot Noir 2014
James Halliday
für den JG 2014:
93/100 punkte

Estate-grown, with a miserable yield of half a tonne to the acre thanks to the vintage, yet still $19.99 - I shudder to think of the cost of production. As ever, a flawless wine, with clear varietal character, and none of the muscle-bound character one might expect from such a yield.

'Estate-grown, no additions' is a cryptic note on the back label. It has phenomenal power and drive, a pure rendition of grapes from an immaculately tended vineyard. Natural acidity gives the wine a special quality to its shimmer of grapefruit and white peach, French oak merely an observer.

Stonier Pinot Noir 2015
Weinbeschreibung:

95/100 Punkte
How good is Australian Pinot Noir getting these days? Bright raspberry/cherry, spices, slight pepperiness and something like pencil/mineral or whatever-you-want-to-call-it-but-it’s-there. Light bodied, flush tannin, silky almost, then firm and long. Has depth for a feather weight. It’s pretty and delicate and absolutely needs time in bottle or a big decant if drinking now. After being open for a day, it really began to sing, then I finished the bottle so can’t tell you what happened next. Go forth, Pinot Fanciers.”

A more feminine and perfumed Hoddles Creek 1er Pinot Noir than the previous 2010 release but every bit as good. 20% whole bunches, eighteen months in barrel. Roses, raspberries, smoked meats, sour cherry and black spice. It’s highly structured and needs a thorough decant if you’re going to get stuck in now but its future is assured. Lively acid and layered tannin that works its way through the flavours as it heads towards a stony, slightly herbal, sappy and savoury finish. Only just medium-bodied at most however it has unwavering intensity and very good reach.”

Sangreal by Farr Pinot Noir 2013 Victoria-Australia
James Halliday, 97/100

“The vineyard was planted in '94 to clones 114 and 115, believed to have mutated into a single 'Sangreal' clone. Always made with 50-70% whole bunches, and 60-70% new oak maturation for 18 months. Another very different iteration of pinot, the multifaceted bouquet with both red and black fruits in play, the same perfumed vehicle as Farr Rising, the palate of remarkable elegance and finesse, with exactly the right balance between pure pinot fruit flavours and structure ex the whole bunches.” (James Halliday, 97/100)

Wine Front, 96/100

“Twenty-ish year old vines. A healthy dose of whole bunches. Astute winemaking. One of the stars of Australian wine. Opens tight. Dry tannin, controlling, lots of it, no escape. It would be an issue if the fruit wasn’t so good. Said fruit comes at you in waves: charcuterie, fistfuls of spice, sour cherries, earth and ash. It’s quite a parade to step into. A river of nuance to be swept along by. I sat on this over the course of three days, more by accident than by intention, and it drank exquisitely throughout.” (Wine Front, 96/100)

Huon Hooke, 96/100

“Full red colour with a hint of purple in the rim; restrained but very appealing bouquet of red fruits, spices and dried herbs. It's rich and fruit-sweet on the palate, with quite high acidity adding zest and verve to the mouthfeel. This has a bit more whole-bunch character than the Farrside. Very long finish, a touch firmer in structure than the '13 Farrside, with a little more acid.” (Huon Hooke, 96/100)

Farrside by Farr Pinot Noir 2013 Victoria-Australia
Huon Hooke, 97/100

“Full red colour with a tinge of purple; the bouquet sweetly ripe red fruits without excessive stalky herbal notes. Very perfumed, alluring, complex. The wine is very rich and fruit-sweet on the tongue, full-bodied and intense, powerful and very long in its aftertaste. A superb, delicious wine; brandied cherries; good soft and fleshy tannins and a tremendously long, satisfying finish. Great pinot.” (Huon Hooke, 97/100)

Wine Front, 96/100

“This is a beauty. Seduction plus. Certified yum. Swish oak, spiced cherry-plum, exquisite integration of various savoury nuances and length to burn. It’s rich and generous but firm and complex. Its smoky, slinky, satiny mouthfeel is to die for. For sheer top-end drinkability; it’s sensational.” (Wine Front, 96/100)

James Halliday, 96/100

“From clones 114, 115, 667 and MV6; hand-picked and sorted, 60-70% destemmed before a 4-day cold soak, wild ferment for 12 days, pigeaged 2-3 times daily, matured for 18 months in French oak (50-60% new). Significantly more powerful and intense than its Farr Rising sibling. This is the big dog of the trio, with everything needed for a 20-year future.” (James Halliday, 96/100)
