Die Domaine de Mondot gehörte dem Abt Seze, der 1745 das Aktuelle Chateau erbauen ließ. Unter seiner Führung
wurde der Wein von Mondot zu einem der angesehensten in Saint-Emilion.
Erst 1850 trat Raymond Troplong in Erscheinung, der sich in mondot verliebte und das aktuelle Anwesen schuf.
Der Pair von Frankreich, Jurist, Kunst- und Literaturliebhaber und intime Freund von Theophile Gautier war von 1852
bis zu seinem Tod 1869 Präsident des Senats. Er wusste das Potenzial von Mondot auszuschöpfen und einen erst-
klassigen Wein zu erzeugen, den der berühmte "Feret" 1868 auf den zweiten Platz der Saint-Emilions setzte. Bevor
sein Neffe und Nachfolger Edouard Troplong das Gut verkaufte, fügte er ihm den Namen Troplong an..
Zu Beginn des 20. jahrhunderts kaufte Alexandre Valette, ein Weinhändler aus Paris, das Chateau. Er besaß bereits
La France in Fronsac sowie ein weiteres Weingut mit dem selben Namen in Quinsac und erwarb kurz darauf das
Chateau Pavie. Später übernahmen sein Sohn Bernard und sein Enkel Claude die Führung von Troplong Mondot.
Heute sind Christine Valette-Pariente und ihr Mann Xavier Pariente Eigentümer des Chateaus und leiten seine Geschicke.

A wine that transcended both my lofty expectations and anything produced at this address in the last 50 years, the 2022 Troplong Mondot realizes all the potential of this striking terroir. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries, exotic spices, bay leaf and orange zest, it's full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with incredible concentration without weight, supple tannins and a seamless, complete profile, concluding with a long, saline finish. All the work of the last few years in the vineyards and winery makes itself felt, as Troplong Mondot's vineyards took the hot, dry conditions in their stride, and the quality of the fruit that they produced has been preserved by a gentle vinification and a discreet élevage, featuring only 55% new oak and some 20% of the volume in large foudres.

The lingering finish displays sweet, red and black fruits, a salted, orange citrus tone and a beautiful chalky character on the backend. The wine blends 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. 14.9% ABV, 3.48 pH. Harvesting started August 29 - September 26. Drink from 2027-2060.

A supremely excellent Troplong in 2022 that has the hallmarks of a concentrated vintage but delivered with ultimate poise and precision. A joy to taste and once again one of my favourites. Sharp, sleek, sour, bright and cool - I love the instant freshness and drinkability of this, tannins are fresh and detailed with both a plush and cool texture underpinned by layers of flavour with depth and concentration. Clearly muscular but pixelated - it’s not tense, lean or austere but generous, charming and playful. Supple and succulent, still with ripe strawberry, cherry and raspberry fruit, a mix of bright red and black berries with wet stone, liquorice, dark chocolate and graphite giving the terroir. Silky, balanced acidity and overall so well controlled and presented. 3.5pH. Ageing 50% new oak, reduced by 5% plus 21% in 20hl foudre, 24% one wine barrels.

Chateau Troplong Mondot 2020 Saint Emilion

The 2020 Troplong Mondot may prove to be even better than the brilliant 2019, and it is one of the Right Bank's finest wines in this vintage. Unwinding in the glass with deep aromas of mulberries, blackberries and red cherries mingled with hints of rose petal, licorice and exotic spices, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a satiny attack that segues into a vibrant, polished mid-palate, concluding with a long, resonant finish. Having seen only 65% new oak and with malolactic fermentation completed in tank rather than in barrel, it's remarkably pure and seamless. With the 2020 vintage, this estate's stylistic redemption appears to be complete.

A clear step up over the 2019, the 2020 Château Troplong Mondot is mostly Merlot yet includes 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc, all of which was raised in 65% new French oak, with the balance in once-used barrels. The level of purity and finesse here is remarkable, and it reveals a deep ruby/purple hue as well as incredible aromatics of cassis, ripe black cherries, graphite, gunpowder, and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has building, perfectly ripe tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. Certainly light years away from the riper, more opulent style of the 2000's, the wines today under consultant Thomas Duclos are much more about finesse and elegance. While I certainly miss the sexy, riper style of the past, there is no denying the incredible quality from this château today.

Er beschreibt den Wein so wie man ihn kenn, viel dunkle Frucht, Power und Struktur, doch er weist ganz klar darauf hin, das der gravierende Unterschied zu den bisherigen Jahrgängen darin liegt, dass der Wein in 2020 eine vibrierende Säurestruktur besitzt und Tonnen an Mineralität mitbringt. Er gibt seinen Lesern noch mit auf den Weg, dass der Wein einige Zeit der Reife benötigt.

The 2017 Troplong Mondot is stunning. just as it was en primeur. Rich and ample. yet endowed with striking energy as well. the 2017 is the first vintage made by new CEO Aymeric de Gironde and consulting winemaker Thomas Duclos. The 2017 takes hold of all the senses and never lets up. All of the power that is typical of this site is evident. it seems to come so naturally. and yet picking earlier and then using a lighter hand in the cellar yielded a Troplong of uncommon energy and vibrancy. The 2017 has been nothing short of thrilling on the four occasions I have tasted it from bottle so far. What a wine!

The 2017 Chateau Troplong Mondot continues in the new style of this estate and is based on 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Cabernet Franc from healthy yields of 48 hectoliters per hectare. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by a stunning perfume of creme de cassis, black raspberries, white chocolate, crushed flowers, and a terrific sense of minerality. Flawlessly balanced, medium to full-bodied, and nicely concentrated, it shows the more elegant, classical style of the vintage beautifully. It has the texture and balance to drink brilliantly today yet will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and keep for two decades or more.
